Dieter, my Father was born in 1914 in December- he and his friends often would gather and sing this song and drink a few beers(bier) around the holidays. I would like to send your video to a few family members this year- ok with you? Danke sehr, Don
I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Acuff in 1981 at a Captain D's restaurant next door to Opryland. I feel sorry for him because I boldly walked up to him and asked if I could have my picture taken him. Bless his heart he gladly obligized and was such a good sport. I could tell he was an absolutely WONDERFUL man with a heart of gold although I wished I would have left him alone and let him enjoy his meal.
I had the pleasure of meeting Roy Acuff when he came to Australia in 1959
he put together a show on Chanel 9 in Sydney called "Open House" it would be great if anyone had copies of those videos to post on utube Roy was a great gentlman
One of the most popular sounds at the grand ol opry, Roy Acuff and Brother Os and the Wabash Cannonball. Which they still made music like this, and men were gentlemen and women were ladies.
Chubbyfan, thank YOU, among other things for sharing. The steel player is Shot Jackson, "Mr. Sho-bud," who owned that company with Buddy Emmons. The fiddler is Howdy Forrester. Jimmy Riddle is barely visible at the piano, but I caught him there. I don't know the guitarist or bass player.
Great video and performance by the ONLY King of country music. By the way, this would have been only about three months after he and his band were nearly killed in an auto accident--if I am correct, Oswald pulled him out of the car and may have saved him.
Just great to see ROY ACUFF the King of Country Music as he was called on his "All Time Greatest Hits" on vinyl LPM 109 HICKORY Records Inc. Nashville Tenn. (1963) still got he Album and it's as good as new...Wabash Cannon Ball is side two track one...Randy
