i have a 2012 MS3. i really want this intake. is it the same one listed on the AEM website? i've heard many-a-folk say the 1st gen parts fit perfectly and im confused. someone help please.
Trust me the intake makes a hell of a difference for this car. It's very restricted stock. U spin in 2nd gear with it like crazy. Cold air Is Going to be more power than the Short ram, ur sucking in all the hot air
@LFADDRIFTER SEE !! your right but that what people tend to misread oh am getting a car with 263bhp when your not,but for a little hatchback like that to be making over 200whp isn't bad but i really hope they make a awd version i would really like to see that.So for all car shoppers everywhere dont be fooled but what the car is making to the crank but to the wheels is what matters.
@coldfuzionxx no it wouldn't i have a mazda3 now that i just put in a cai,i called my warrenty place to make sure i can do it.same goes with a exhaust you can get only from the cat back nothing more.now if you hydolock your car due to the cai your assed out your not covered
No it wouldn't as long as you ask and doesn't mess up anything on the car. But I wouldn't throw a coldair no sir, and the mazdaspeed is supposed to have 260 256 something like and 280 ft of tq that insane that it lost that much power
@TheS13freak not really my friend got his 08 mustang gt he put it on a dyno just for fun and instead of 300 hp he was at 210hp his car was only 8 months old this is because the measure the hp at the crank instead of at the wheels
The numbers from the very first Dyno run was 211.1 HP @ 5383 RPM. The torque was 223.6 @ 4066 RPM. Video mark 0:52
The Final numbers are 238.9 HP @ 6164 RPM and 294.8 @ 3062 RPM. Video mark 2:26.
That's 27.8 increase in HP and 71.2 increase in Torque.
Video mark 2:39 he says the "stock" made 210.4 hp and 220 torque, and after it made 238.3 HP and 286.3 torque. Where is he getting his numbers from? he's wrong!!!
when you got air suckin in to that snail under your hood, that old air box isnt doin anyone any good lol. i turbo'd my cobalt and originally just had the cone filter sucking in hot air right after the compressor turbine but i installed an injen cai last weekend and it makes a noticeable difference. definatly not 27 hp lol but a little better throttle response and the air suction is a hell of a lot louder
@arthur84 it's good in two aspects- the fact that it compresses air so that you burn close to 100% of your fuel, and plus (when running a low psi) its better for gas mileage. and its also good for a competative edge if you wanna make your car a little zippier. im not one of those DB's that thinks cobalts are the shit, but there good daily drivers. if i really wanted a performance car, id get a GTO ;)
i don't really believe in the cai thing. i don't see how you can get 25hp more when the engine is designed to take in a set amount of air. maybe after a tune and some other mods, but not like they are showing on this vid. i had a cai installed on my 08 mazda3 and the only thing i noticed was a little bog-down off the line, and the car sounded a lot louder/better. until i see definitive proof right before my eyes i'm unconvinced... say what you want.
I assume you're saying that someone who believes in this instance a CAI can give a 25 hp gain is "ignorant?" If so, then you should know it is well documented that practically any off the shelf intake will give the same results with this car. The stock airbox on these cars tapers down to about the size of a quarter, so yes, there is much room to be improved upon. Now if someone were claiming that their intake would make 25 hp on a NA 1.6L Honda Civic, then that is a different story.
@Spool2Boost Naturally aspirated cars are turbocharged cars intake air at different rates and mechanics. A perfect example is when you take both cars to a higher altitude. The NA car will simply under perform due to the lower air density. The turbo car will simply work the turbo harder by applying more boost to make up for the lower density air. Thats why i always say exhaust and intakes basically do nothing for NA cars, but its a totally different story for turbos.
@its2realj Ya, that's a given. A turbo engine has a major advantage at altitude over NA. And? Anybody who knows anything about engines knows that.
I was referring to the "magic" 25hp that these guys "unlocked" with their whiz-bang product. I gotta SR CAI on my 09 speed3 (not an AEM btw), and sure it sounds better and it feels a little faster, but I could never say definitively that it gave me anywhere near a 25hp gain (and my CAI was under development for almost 2 years). This vid is BS
you only use a heat shield when the filter is close to the engine not when its located so far away near the bumper. What they are doing is not stupid.
haha you have to practically submerge the filter and do so at 3/4 to WOT for you to be drawing enough air to pull the water far enough up to cause hydro lock. if your not a dumbass then you shouldnt have any problem. if your really worried about the small amount that can be ingested then get a filter cover.
just because you put it on doesnt mean your warranty is void. It is only void if the dealership can prove the aftermarket part caused the problem you brought your car in for...
its not by the cause of the aftermarket part. its the fact that you added a modification by replacing the stock part with the aftermarket. That's touching the engine, so the dealership considers it to be void.
bruce ur fuckin stupid all dynos in different city's with different type of dynos will give different numbers dont set the whp at a number lol i dyno'd 246 whp STOCK oh and btw the cobb sri is a much better peice
The second run showed an increase of almost 50 ft/lbs of torque, yet they only say the horsepower. Thats an extreme gain with only an intake. And with them only mentioning horsepower, i cant really believe the gains.
Are there any problems with the car after installing the aem cai? A lot of people are using the cobb sri and I cant see why you wouldnt use the AEM cai over the sri.
the SRI provides a much easier install and the turbo sounds alittle louder. the CAI you get more power but having to pull the wheel well to clean the filter sucks. and i have had both with out any problems.
well.....i am pretty sure that mazdaspeed 3 come with exactly 264hp stockkk........but he got only 211 its kind of suspicipous .... i dont thinks tish really get 38 hp ....it deff works...but u are not get any more than 15hp...thast proven fact cus i own a speed 3 myself and have the same air intake
The MS3 has 264 ENGINE horsepower (ehp), which only equates to 211 WHEEL horsepower (whp). The dyno looks at whp which is the actual amount that makes it to the wheels. The gains are real.
this unit is a good cold air. it comes with the air straightner inside ( bonus ) , the dryflow filter is a must with turbo cars ( for the sake of the compressor wheel) and the color will match my cobb fmic!!!
whats the year,is this the same for 2008

my only question is how does the ecu do without being tuned for the extra air inflow? or does the ms3 need to be tuned after the cai install?

@jufer102 the eti system which comes with the intake system tunes the maf sensor.
OR thats what i think it says on their website so basically the car wont throw a cel and its basically ready to go.

211 at the wheels is pretty fucking poor for a 2-wheel drive car that allegedly makes 260 at the crank.
