  • @EdwR1 hah yeah because spanking them and making them cry harder will help. It will also help form them into a wonderful human being... not hostile or anything. You're a smart cookie aren't ya?

  • I loved this film. My son has autism, and OCD. Often times people don't understand the complexity of the situation. It's rarely behavorial. In fact; autism is a disorder of the brain; or a neurological disorder-Not just behavorial. It's tuff. Luckily..so am I.

  • Autism the Musical is a favorite movie of mine. I have run theater classes for children on the spectrum, and it was one of the most rewarding things I have done.

  • I don't give a fuck what the kid has, if my kid ever threw a tantrum I would beat his fucking ass!

  • @EdwR1 I am glad you don't have kids.

  • Well I sure as shit not am going to let them trash shit around, and act like a giant fucking brat like some of those worthless excuses of a parent out there.

  • you are a retard you deserve not to live on this planet. these children go through hell. they cant help it. they don't need a fucking spanking or a cure, or a demand to die, you do.

  • @TycoonQueenie01 Like I said, I don't give a flying fuck what they have or what their excuse is. I will NOT tolerate a child throwing a bitch fit like some kind of spastic retard. If you blame their behavior on some bullshit condition, then you're a worthless parent.

  • @EdwR1 well, to be honest, i am pretty glad that you have no kids at all. drop dead u idiot

  • @TycoonQueenie01 Whatever you say, asspie. Have fun using that condition as a crutch and avoiding any responsibility for yourself. It must be great to have a handy excuse for whenever you fuck up, eh?

  • @EdwR1 hey, heres a tip. FUCK OFF

  • Dude, would you do that to someone with downsyndrome?

Just because autism doesn't have visual clues, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Doing that would really, really confuse them, and probably mess them up even more.

I pray to God you never have a child with that attitude.

  • There is an autistic spectrum... I didn't realise you were autistic, but even so.

You might not have it severely, clearly this kid does.

  • thats true

  • What kind of Friggin lunatic let someone with retardation take care of thier child? My son has Autism, I don't allow it to be an excuse for bad behavior. A change in the tone of my voice stops him from throwing and hitting. I don't need a belt

  • @daringrebe why not let a person with retardation watch a child especially one who has autism, because unlike a idiotic normie i have the knowledge of knowing that people with disibillities understand the world around them, but a normie is to dumb to understand that, and i didn't hurt my niece when i hite her but i bet if i would of said i hit my normal four year old niece with a belt nothing would of been said, take this advise everything your child do is not form autism or ect, it;s the child

  • @MONIQUEIJ OK So you send me an email explaining how educated you are but you do not put that here. What you said is " have a tiny bit of autism myself and mental retardation ", not that you are mildly retarded as you imply in your email to me. From that statement I conclude that you are mentally retarded, which medically means that you are unable to cope with day to day life and decisions. I would feel the same way if you took a belt to your "normal" niece.

  • @MONIQUEIJ To continue, I fully understand that my son understands the world around him. I have expectations on my son and make no excuses for him. He gets the same love and treatment from me as my son that does not have autism. By you saying "but a normie is to dumb to understand that" shows the incredible amount of prejudice and ingnorance that you have for and about people that do not have developmental disorders. Maybe you need a belt to the ass and to be told to grow up.

  • @MONIQUEIJ FYI, here is a medical definition of mental retardation:

Mental Retardation - Subnormal intellectual functioning which originates during the developmental period. This has multiple potential etiologies, including genetic defects and perinatal insults. Intelligence quotient (IQ) scores are commonly used to determine whether an individual is mentally retarded. IQ scores between 70 and 79 are in the borderline mentally retarded range. Scores below 67 are in the retarded range.

  • @MONIQUEIJ - So now that you have a definition for Mental Retardation. As you stated in your private message to me, you were in "normal" classes in school and never held back. If you truly suffer from some form of mental retardation, you would not be in as you say "normal" classes, your intellect and ability to figure things out would be reduced. So maybe you started school late???? I really do not think you quite know what is wrong with you, but maybe you should find out. You have issues.

  • @daringrebe no i did not start school late, and having retardation don't mean reduce intelligent thats a myth. :)

  • @molewizard Absolutely. You should NEVER hit a child (or anyone) for autistic behaviors they have little or no control over. If an autistic child is having a meltdown it's probably due to over-stimulation. Thankfully my meltdowns haven't involved yelling and throwing stuff. It amazes me how many peoples answer to autism is a beating. If someones brain can't understand something, beating their ass wont change that.

There are ways of dealing with an autistic child that don't involve pain.

  • I saw the movie, a great movie. I have Aspergers Syndrome, a type of autism. I didn't always know I had it; I knew I was different; but didn't always know what the heck it was. I am also a folk musician/singer/songwriter; I wrote 3 autism awareness songs, including my most recent of a young adult lady having classic autism,

  • i saw the movie, and my baby brother has autism, this was amazing.!

  • That was really neat. good work

  • I can remember just BALLIN'!

  • I was very impressed by Wyatt. Incredible kid and how smart. Great film, it wasn't the musical that did it for me but the parents. Being a parent myself I know what you all feel too well. You all are a strong bunch. Thanks for participating!!

  • We had home ABA 2 1/2 yrs cer pros. Comes down to the therapists themselves. Some are pushy aggressive and others tender. Repetitive teaching is great BUT an almost diabolical obsession with appearing normal is suspect. ABA is great in it's DTT method but the ideology is what I disagree with. They wanted to ignore/extinct my child's fear of sudden noises, train him to not respond. I just took him to the noises and explained what they are and the fear went away. ABA can be tunnel visioned.

  • there should have this treatment in canada my son has autism.

  • this movie is so amazing.

  • lol as much as i h8 those retarted autistics if my room was like his i wouldn't sleep in it eighther lol

  • May God forgive you!

  • wht for

  • I myself have a child with autism and he is the sweetest soul I have ever met. People are out there trying to help these children, who didnt ask to born this way, to help them better themselves as individuals and in the community..People like you, who have no idea about autism and chose to judge so quickly and call them RETARDS really do need the help. Get a life!!!! I am soo pissed about your comment. People like you make me sick

  • you are amazing!

  • You are such a special person and very loving mother. Your son is very lucky to have you and you are very lucky to have you son.

I feel for you and am inspired by you.

My wife and I have a son who has autism and we look for guidance because we love our son so much.

We look forward to seeing your special.

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences and for such a great contribution utilizing autistic children to create a wonderful show and helping them!

  • On a more superficial note, the filmmaker has a great head of curly hair.

  • Good clip. I saw the DVD cover while walking by a store front window and thought it was a parody, like "The Onion". Now I want to see this movie. I think autism demonstrates extreme bio- psycho- physical principles that apply to all of us.

  • great movie, I wonder about the ages of the fathers of the kids in the movie. They look to me like older men.

  • Very touching film. Beautiful children. Blessings to all of you. I wish you the best.

People need to be informed and educated to u nderstand this. Good Job Tricia.

  • is an Indigo child, it's a form of new age kid. Those children are here to learn people things they need before the year 2012, when everythings starts to change and people need to prepaired! positive or negative.

  • I'm not worried about the year 2012. To quote Ram Das, "Be Here Now."

Just as with the end of one millennium and the beginning of the next, the universe will continue.

I refer to my youngest as, "With Powers and abilities far beyond those of Neural Typical Mortals.

My oldest is without a doubt the most intelligent human being I have ever met.

They have over come many hurdles in their short lives and are doing well.

  • I absolutely fell in love with this movie and all of the people in it!

Years ago, I worked at a state institution in Massachusetts working with autistic children and young adults, (this was back in the 70's). The powers that be, thought that these children should have protective headgear clapped on their heads and placed in a safe room. A small group of us tried our best to break through those barriers. This movie made my heart soar. Anyway that I can help, I'm there.

  • I watched the full documentary on HBO, today. I cried almost the entire time. This show is full of sadness, anxiety, struggles, honesty, and absolute victory... when there's love in the picture. To anyone who hasn't seen this movie, I highly recommend you watch. It's truly a "Miracle Project".

  • ABA is the answer

  • NO IT IS NOT! I am the Autistic mom of Autistic children and ABA is abusive

  • Sorry you feel that way. ABA has recovered many children and there is no abuse associated with it at all. It is a very reinforcing treatment. You may want to check into whoever is providing the abusive treatment you are referring to.

  • Autism-it's tough, it's hard,it's painful, it's rough, it's "life". I'm glad you helped in this project, it helps make these children "real" to those who have not had the joy of knowing a child with Autism.

  • All I want to know, is did they try disciplining the child first?

  • I hope you're just incredibly stupid and not as evil as your comment implies.

  • have to agree.. displine is not the answer .. the kids need patience.. sho some disiplne yourself and do some reserch.

  • I pray that no child with Autism is ever made to live with someone who has no empathetic ability. Can you imagine a world where everything is painful to you. The noise of the wind can be too much, hair cuts, nail trimmings, conversations in a room, all too much for them. They need understanding and a world of patience not "a firm hand on the bottom" Try to open your heart and imagine

    what their world is like.

  • let me tell you -- discipline with an autistic child -- at best, it deters them for THAT instance, but at worst, it causes them to bottle up their natural behaviors until it turns into a full-on meltdown (which you DON'T want to see). I used to think like you did -- then I learned the hard truth -- it's not ABOUT discipline, because they're not doing it to be "bad." it's a totally different thing. A hard lesson to learn.

  • All I want to know, is have you ever tried to discipline an autistic child?

  • Comment removed

  • That's a valid question for those who don't know much about autism.

    It's not a disciplinary issue. It's a sensory issue.

Imagine your senses open wide without the ability to filter out excess stimuli. Imagine being in a room with 30 conversations going on at the same time and not being able to filter them out.

Imagine experiencing pain just from touch or even just from making eye contact with another.

Imagine the constant hum of florescent lights, electronics amplified a 100 times over.

  • Sensory Integration Dysfunction cannot be disciplined away. The brain processes sensory input such as lights, sounds and touch very differently from the way the NT brain processes these inputs and the SID brain in the ASD child often reacts violently to sensory input or the lack thereof.

  • Absolutly wonderful. As a single dad raising two ASD daughters I fully understand what the mother was going through with her son.

    God Bless

  • How does one respond to a comment like this?

I feel very sorry for you.

  • don't feel sorry for ghostofxmaspast because that is not a human being speaking.

  • ghostofxmaspast I have a suggestion. How about we drown all the people that think like you and then our kids will have a better world to live in while they are here!

  • i totally agree with this video but one thing god give these special to those parents who can give thier best to them and leave rest to god and leave avery good life without tension making thier soul fill with love for each and every human who are part of thier wonderfull life

  • Absolutly.

We are never given a test or difficulty that is beyond our ability to over come. It doesn't mean that it will be easy, in fact it can be very hard. It's just not insurmountable.

    I feel very blessed.

  • What a jerk you are!

  • then some lsd.you know,get their mind right;

  • ok,not marijuana.hashish.makes me sleepy!

  • Why don't you go OD on some now and do everyone a favor

  • Garzaeduardo -

    you are so stupid...

I dont even know how to respond.

    Get a life.

Lets honor the parents and children that go thru Autism on a daily basis. You must be going through something yourself. Why not visit a website so you can get some intervention??

And leave us (parents/children who deal with autism) alone. We deal with enough ignorance already..

  • no but it is obvious that you have had a few too many!

  • This movie was great! This documentary caught some great moments: Funny, tense, insightful, and emotional.

  • this is not a film this is a reality which is must for each and every normal should know

  • It's a great film and I enjoyed this interview. Well done for such a difficult topic.

  • This is a wonderful film - saw it recently - a must see for all parents and teachers of autistic children. Well done interview.

  • this is not a film this is a reality which is must for each and every normal should know
