The FHR can be auscultated. First you have to find the fetus' back and then using the bell of the steth to listen, you can easily hear it.

Hi, I am a medical student from Iloilo Doctors' College of Medicine, yes you can use a stethoscope to auscultate the FHS... but with their procedure... mali eh, they should be using the bell instead of the diaphragm and with their stethoscope, it'll be barely or close to impossible to hear it... they should use at least Littmann Classic II Stethoscope

From wht i hve been thought, auscultation of fetal heart sound is by using Pinard stethoscope... This is 1st time i see auscltate FHS by stethoscope...

yeah, when ausculating for the fetal heart rate (baby still in the womb of the mother) you use the bell of the stethoscope but when the baby's already out of the mother's womb, you use the diaphragm.

1. its relative consistency -- the head is harder than the breech.

2. its shape -- head is firm, round and hard. Breech is softer and feels more angular.

3. mobility - head will move independently of the trunk but the breech only with the trunk.
