HI EVERYONE, I’M A 17 YEAR OLD AMATEUR DIRECTOR, AND IF YOU APPRECIATE WELL MADE INDEPENDENT CINEMA, THEN PLEASE, CHECK OUT MY CHANNEL, ALL MY SHORT MOVIES ARE THERE.
IS NOT MY INTENTION TO SPAM, I´M JUST ASKIN YOUR HELP, SO MY WORK CAN BE NOTED. PLEASE, EVEN 1 VIEWER OR SUBSCRIBER, ALREADY MEANS A LOT TO ME.
I was amazed with how good this movie was. I had fooled myself as a younger person into believing "Saving Private Ryan" was the first great and realistic war movie.
SPR was fantastic, but similar movies have been made before, such as this gem.
too bad he died before he could have started "A.I."...i'm sure his version would have been darker and more thought-provoking than the sugar-coated movie Spielberg made.
Great movie, very touching, but that also means it takes away all the joy in you for a wile and leaves you thinking about all the cruelty in the movie. If a movie can make you do that, it's a good one. Kubrick's the best!
Every time I hear Kirk Douglas saying "And you can go to HELL before I apologize to you now or ever again!"....my heart drops. Just that moment portrays one of the greatest performances known to man. Agreed?
@sweiland75 what. dont be a pretensious dick, kubrick didn't die during production. who watched the fucking movie, and hated it. though kubrick also didn't like a clockwork orange or heavy metal jacket, so kubrick is a harsh motherfucker. eyes wide shut was good. not a dud.
Actor Wayne Morrison who played the weakling in this movie is actually WW2 Veteran fighter pilot. Flew F6F Hellcats-7 "kills", contributed to the sinking of 5 ships. Funny, cast as a weakling and is buried in Arlington Cemetary. Irony.
@BloodPump What about "Eyes Wide Shut" that movie sucked pretty hard. Not even nudity from Nicole Kidman could even save that movie. I love kubrick if he had never made "Eyes Wide Shut" I'd say your statement was correct.
@BloodPump He lived a good long life. He had many critical successes. He did die a bit early, and he had many unrealised projects, he never got to make A.I., Spielberg finished it for him, he had many others he never even started. But all-in-all, I think he would be happy with the life he lived. I wouldn't say he died too early in his career, he had a career spanning four decades, certainly not 'too early'
@BloodPump EYES WIDE SHUT was a major dud...comedian sandra bernhard said kubrick died of shame....BARRY LYNDON was a box office flop, and the reason he made THE SHINING---to be profitable again; and THE SHINING is a "thriller' with typical antoninoi direction that kubrick started ripping off with '2001"
Eyes Wide Shut wasn't for everyone, sure, but it was a well crafted film. How well a film does in the theaters shouldn't dictate if a film is a dud or not, Barry Lyndon, for example, was an outstanding and underrated film. Finally, The Shining isn't one of his crowning achievements, to be sure, but it wasn't a dud either.
Quite frankly, I detect blind hatred in that comment. You're entitled to your opinions of course, but you shouldn't just go about blowing smoke out your ass.
@BloodPump stanley kubrick was...very...interested in how much his movies made, and even measured how big the ads were for his movies in papers.
kubrick, unlike peter bogdonovich, made sure to follow an arty box office flop with something more mainstream and profitable---that's how he lasted so long.
i prefer kubricks' earlier movies, before he ripped off antonioni's slow style; even ray bradbury hated "2001", making sure to mention antonioni
@BloodPump king has admitted to drug and booze abuse, but you/he also need a...healthy...ego to write so much stuff, when somebody like tolstoy would have agonized for years over even writing the stuff king wrote.
king was hoping for a more down and dirty thriller from kubrick; in a FILM COMMENT guilty pleasures list king liked roger corman's BLOODY MAMA. and in a more recent ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY king liked the LAST HOUSE ON LEFT remake.
i certainly prefer kubrick's to king's tv version
This movie came out in 1957 and it was NOT financially successful ..but the writing (you can hear it in these scenes) is wonderful...very witty...one of my favorite movies of all time...
one of the best anti-war films ever

How was this a bad version of star wars?
50bhhamnt 2 years ago
Star Wars came out after this... so if anything Star Wars is a bad version of this (actually, Star Wars is a bad version of lots of things)
Besides that, the plot of this movie, and the plot of Star Wars are completely different.
I call bullshit, you don't know what you're talking about.
