Asala or other singers are not Umm Kulthum because they sing her songs. They sing Um Kulthum's light to medium weight songs. This song was sang by Soma in her sixties, Asala is only 40. I would like to hear Asala singing this same song in her sixties. On the other hand I'd like to hear Asala sing the heavy weight songs of Umm Kulthum that she sang when she was Asala's age such as "Wolida Al Hoda", "Robaeiat El Khayam", "Araka Aseia Al Dama" and many many others. Please Give Um Kulthum a break.

Asala and many others tried to emulate the Lady, and it's very well done by Asala, but please don't insult Um Kulthoum by saying anyone can even come close.. not in a million years, not ever.. with all due respect to the new generation of stars and voices.. there is only one Star of the East.

@m0nr0emisfit wow....to even compare the two is beyond insulting to Um Kulthoum. She was in a league all her own. No one will ever do it like her ... Asala has a beautiful voice and captures the essence and emotion of these songs beautifully. But there are certain singers like Um Kulthoum, Wadi3 El Safi, Sabah, Fairouz, and others that people can never replicate or trump. They can come close...but never surpass. Those singers are ageless.
