  • Live view is NOT exclusive to Sony :D

  • Just got the A380 for $99

  • Does the a380 take videos in hd?

  • How much are both of these?? :)

  • john travolta sosie??? mdr

  • whats the camera that you used to film this ? looks pretty clear and high quality !!!!

  • that sony dude looks like john travolta! lol

  • can you manual focus with this ring on the objective?

  • @FelixGoesAround Yes you can.

  • @WhatDigitalCamera what camera is this video filmed with

  • does the a380 have an auto hdr

  • can i zoom with the manual focus? or is it automatic on the a380?

  • Can you use the LDC View finder on the a230 to take pictures insted of using the viewfinder?

  • @AlphaDDC07 No. Only on the a380.

  • @WhatDigitalCamera and 330

  • i found a local seller selling a SONY ALPHA DSLR-A230L for $100 is it worth it im just a beginner photographer

  • @easyliving02 a very great deal. is that a second hand or something?

  • @kkjgg112391 yeah its was second hand but the seller isnt selling any more so im just searching around again

  • @easyliving02 search on ebay there are some great deals. I got my a330 for 350, which isnt near your 100 but it is nevertheless a GREAT deal ^^

  • i'm about to buy my first DSLR, so i think i'm going with the 230

  • If i take a picture on the Sony Alpha 230, will the picture be previewed in the LCD?

  • The picture can only be viewed on the LCD after the shot has been taken. You can playback all previous shots too. I feel that the live view is unnecessary because in bright lighting conditions it is hard to see the LCD on any camera model. This is a great camera if it is your first DSLR.

  • yes, after you take a picture, it will be displayed on the LCD screen for about 4 seconds.

    Happy photog!

  • @ragenumbers yes.

  • Just got my A230 now from Jacobs in derby in the uk on sale at a quite impressive £329 ( $525) down from £350 ($558) and even better with their club jacobs they extend the warranty aswell on DSLR bodies (no lens extended cover) for free !

The grip could be a little better but it's not that bad the Remote Sensor could have been better placed though and the only other problem so far is the flash it's far to bright but I now have it set to rear flash mode or something but it's ok.

  • By "live feed" does that mean on the A230 you cant actually view your shot in the LCD before taking the picture, you have to look through the viewfinder? does that seem really primitive, i can do that on my 3mp old cybershot like?? is the LCD only there to look at your pictures afterwards? or can you even do that...

  • A demo by a Sony alpha product manager himself? Brilliant!

I recently got myself a A330. Can't tell you lot how impressed I'm with it's performance. Outstanding on all levels. Don't waste your time thinking about Canon/Nikon/Other.

Go for it. It's in between 230 and 380. You'll never regret!

  • I have been looking at both the A200 and A230 the A200 has compact flash and bigger lens but the A230 has HDMI output and is Dual memory support (SD & MS DUO) like others the 230 will be my first DSLR Jessops in the uk are really good the lady in there showed me loads of bit's on the camera like how big the battery is , lens changing , some of the menu options and how they work. I was in there for about 30 mins I Intend to get mine from them on the 28th Just after christmas day and boxing day.

  • Is the a230 better than a200. Which to choose?I'm a beginner.

  • 200 is better

  • The camera are great expect for the small grip

  • If only that were the case, they are in fact in most ways worse than the models they replaced. Slowest fps on the market, worse battery life, poor ergonomics and design..buttons missing, etc

Folks should hunt out the A200/300/350 instead, you'll be glad you did..

  • I want the a380, hopefully getting it for xmas, But have heard that on high ISO settings you get alot of noise. Also the D3000, & D5000 from Nikon looking tempting. However no image stabillizer built in. What do you guys thinks?

  • Im getting the a380 in a few weeks.

And I heard the picture are fantastic but it gets a bit of noise starting around 1600 ISO

  • @CharlieCorrupted Fuck the 1600 ISO. I have A380 2 months now with 2 lenses, 18-55mm and 18-250mm. I am just in love with them!!

  • I actually went with the a500 and its got 22-12800ISO ;3

  • Can the 230 do long exposure? Like can you just set the shutter to stay open for two hours or so til the battery runs out?

  • I dont think any camera can do that, it seems pointless because so much light would enter the camera and just make the image solid white

  • oh no... old 35 mm cameras can do it, and I know most new dslrs can as well. It's often used for astrophotography, for dark little fuzzy objects in the sky that can barely be seen with the naked eye. There are some tutorials on youtube about long exposure photography.

  • Why do you all care so much how they look??? They'll find new owners,of that I'm sure! Does anybody care 'bout the way the pics look? They-re great for budget DSLR's!

I always thought that a DSLR means having the opportunity to shoot way better (and way more creative)pics comparing to compacts, and not necessary a big chunky cam, that looks "pro", so you can show off.

They keep making and selling the older models, so why not just thank them for thinking 'bout other people?Girls, for ex...

  • which is better a200, a230 or a300(those are what are in my budget)... im not sure which one to get

  • got the a230 yesterday! :D

  • how good is the zoom on it?

  • @uno2004 me too ^-^

  • a230 its my , very good camera !

    i like it

  • can you record video with the a230?

  • i want the 230 so bad.... $100 down, $400 more to find :]]]

im planning to get one this xmas :D

  • shocking, its turned into a shitty compact, very poor!!!!

  • Matt and Eric should of fucked on this video instead of talking about cameras.

  • lol erm...

  • Who needs a wired remote socket.. -_-..

It's compatible with the wireless remote.

  • alottt smaller than the a200 and a350

  • I really, really prefer the look of the A200 over the new 230/380 designs. The shutter button on the new designs in my opinion is just horribly placed. I mean, with a DSLR I want to feel like I'm using a DSLR, not an extra bulky compact!

  • i have an a300 i after looking at a few reviews of the 330 and 380 they actually prefer the a300 as they sa it seems more professional and less gimicky.

  • This camera doesn't offer a HD video option, but if your like me, I would prefer to actually use a HD video recorder that is designed for video recording. The main reason Sony hasnt implemented one is due to there Live View design using a seperate sensor. The live view on these cameras is easily the best out of all. Than again I do prefer view finders, it seems to add more stabability when the camera is held to ur face.

  • ok im thinking of buying my first dslr camera and im really thinking of getting the a330. should i go for it or getting the a300 wont really make a lot of difference. i really need an opinion on this. thank you very much.

  • Go for the A300, you'll probably be able to get a good deal before the new models come in. Either way their all cracking bits of kit.

  • dont get a 330, go for a 300 or 350. but thats just my opinion.

  • go for the a330, if you cant get the nikon d90.

  • Pay more for less, compared to the last series these new ones are downgraded in many areas. Hunt out an A200/300/350 ignore these ones

  • Do you care to elaborate on those claims for me? Just curious

  • There is a lot of truth in what

barryfitzgerald29 is saying; I have read full previews on the A380 and it seems exactly the same as the A350 execpt for a better user interface and a lower spec build. I would also recommend that you go for the older A200/300/350 series. :)

  • East. A230 v A200 Down from 3fps to 2.5fps No wired remote socket No AEL button No flash raise button No Program shift option No Kelvin WB and filters choice Cannot change settings in auto or subject models, aka jpeg setting are locked, no exposure compensation Battery life down from 750 CIPA to just over 500 shots. In many areas, it's been downgraded..use the thumbs down when you check the facts ist!
  • oh snap DSLRs is huge /hugs his ULTRA compact camera

  • What do you guys think will happen with the a200? Will sony stop producing them? How about the prize? will it drop?

  • carl zeiss 1680z are inredible..

  • damn, i want one of those!!!.....

  • ya i agree to small

all the new "mid" range slr's are crazy small if i am going to buy a camera for 900 that looks just like a 500 dollar camera ??? not counting nikon beacuse the d90 is 1200 bucks and its just as small for some reason when you go over 1000 bucks for a body they look way more pro, 50d, a700,d300 good size with great performance

  • will the old lens be compatible to these new babies? e.g SAL18200

  • yes

  • Image Quality: It isn't to bad, but I've seed better small compact cameras, that are a lot cheaper. I own a alpha a200, and I must say that the image quality is a lot better on my camera. So, my conclusion is... don't buy these new models, becouse its not worth it. Rather buy an a200, or s300, a350.

Hope this will help u decide!:)

    bye!

  • one word. "simple". love this cam.

  • love the leica r9 look, hope new 5 series will have this look as well

  • Too small, if you have large hands.

  • DOesn't seem like they really changed anything... upgrading from an A300 to A330 is like switching from Ti-83 to Ti-84. Same thing just looks different.

  • It's not meant to be an upgrade to a300 :) It's an update to the old camera for new users for their first DSLR. The owners of the a300 should go to a 700 or wait for the rumoured a500

  • Sony is walking back!

  • I used the A200 & I completly agree with you

  • I recently upgraded to the A330 from my A300. I'm very pleased with the A330, considering that it is much lighter and more simplified to use.

  • looks ugly and cheap

  • I bought the a300 about 3 months ago, so far a great camera, i want to upgrade my body eventually any suggestions? I'm looking at the specs of this camera, and since its newer, but im not 100% confident

  • a 700 is a great upgrade

  • I own a A200 and i like it, I see that Sony only changed the design and they did it very well i see.. good job SONY go grab more costumers it's becoming ur golden age now ;)

  • Ive got the a 300, its awesome, sony did not really new cool stuff, thats a shame i think....

  • i like/hate how theyre turning the dslrs more into point and shoots.

theyre getting smaller and coming in different colors like the pink screens...

    owellllll.

  • @ YahDudeItsRlyMe

yeah, I miss the days when DSLR's were big, black and dangerous.

  • i think the whole point of a DSLR is so the cameras are actually big...im not a big fan of a small dslr......but then again technology always smiles back to say yeahh right bitchh...ha

  • Not impressed with the design at all. The A200 feels and looks a lot better piece of kit. again I'm another that will jump to the 700 or 900 and not just upgrade to what looks like a cheaper made camera.

On the plus side Sony are having a great impact on the DSLR market and helping drive prices on entry level kit down.

  • i agree with you about the design...i think that holding these cameras is going to be a bit akward....

  • Canon 50D ROCKS""""

  • was there any point of that other guy being there, that sony guy could of done it all him self

  • whoa those things are tiny! haha

  • No HD video mode on any of the new cams 230 330 or 380. This option is offered by all the big name brands now, which would easily eliminate Sony from the potential purchase list.

    On a positive note:

Adding SD card was an awesome move by Sony. (Lack of this always kept me away from Sony)

Retaining the vari angle LCD was another good idea.

New shape is nice but splitting the color on a line I wasn't a big fan of.

  • its hideous

  • They look tiny. This is the reason I had to get a Nikon D80 when I bought my dslr. It was the cheapest camera I could find that actually felt comfortable in my hands! I know the trend in technology is to make things as small and compact as possible, but I still need the damn thing to fit in my large hands please! :o(

  • After watch the review,i will stay with my A200

  • Next camera for you should be rather A700 series not another entry level ( 200 and 30 series ) body...

  • I did'nt expect Sony to shrink down the cameras this much, quite disappointing imo.

  • Dude, those are ENTRY models, for guys who hust switched from compacts... we still wait fro "real" cameras.

  • It doesn't matter, DSLR's should not be compact, they should be steady and solid, a200 was a entry model, but at least it fits nice in the hand.

But yes, lets wait for the a700 replacement.

  • "DSLR's should not be compact," - tell it to Olympus ;-) Sony knows what's doing... Just see what it did during past two years...

  • I agree, they sure do, and i am a fan of them, just dont see the point of making things smaller (like canon uuh), thats all.

  • hehe yeah an entry level a380 to 800$, don't compare it to people who just wants better pictures, because they can surely get great pictures from compacts too. It has nothing to do with looking cool, do you know me?, have you used a dslr yourself?, why do you think canon has gotten so much fuzz for the small body's on 400/450d.... as usual its impossible to mean anything on youtube without getting all kind of assumption's back!
