Have this, in a complete dub of the opera, on Beta tape (!) ... The volume level of this upload is VERY-low. Obviously, Ms. Janowitz and the Canadian ... Jon Vickers ... were at their BEST, and the entire performance is one of the greatest that we could find. ... Thanks!
A mi tambien me hace llorar irremediablemente cada vez que lo escucho. Sin duda una de las mejores interpretaciones, la de vickers y janowitz. gracias por colgarlo.
Superb all around. The singing, the connection between the two...But Vickers' face and hands, after the singing is done, in embracing Leonora with what seem to be the most vulnerable, tender, exposed acting I've ever seen on an opera singer...What can I say? Thanks SO MUCH.
Whoever said operatic singers of the past couldn't act? This gives lie to that misconception, as to so many other YouTube videos: Corelli as Don Jose, Tebaldi in Fanciulla, etc etc etc.
Poor sound quality but it doesn´t matter. Don´t you just LOVE Gundula Janowitz?? Poetry lovers, read the poem "The Name" (1970) by my compatriot Tomas Tranströmer. Don´t you think he was thinking of this scene? ("Namnet" ur "Mörkerseende".)
Fabulous. I sang in the Philharmonia chorus at this performance - would love to see the choral sections of the video again! A great performance!

Would perhaps sounded better without seeing Vickers as a Troll. But never liked him so probably not.

Great delivery; very moving. Love this duet, what a shame Beethoven only managed to write one opera, poor guy. It was a great one.

Makes me want to weep. Her heroism, his faith, their love..ah..too much for me when it is delivered like this. Thank you for posting

so true.
well, back in the day, it was not so much couldn't act as didn't. it was more important to have correct projection of the voice towards the audience.
i think the "bad acting" image just stuck.
