It was the court language of Scotland until the 17th century, the bible was translated into it and of course poetry written in great quantity. I'm from glasgow's south side and a lot of the west end types, lets call them "the lovely people"you know the kind i mean! look down on the real glaswegian accents as if its lower class! the fact is that we have kept our real accents and they have developed some kind of false hybrid english / american /high school musical accent along with a superiority complex that often finds them regretting having such qualitys ;O).
They are not the real glasgow.
