this video brings back memories. i thought the Ultra 64 was a cool name, thats until nintendo changed it to Nintendo 64 and went for cartridges. now question to all of you. RE2 had FMV why didnt Killer Instinct?
Rare Sold there soul to the Devil!.. Miss Rare on Nintendo console Killer Instinct 3 will be on the 360 soon.. But I don't what the out come will be for the 360 the control's
I love Nintendo but why did they sell their 49% of Rare to Microsoft. Microsoft first bought Rare's 51% then they bought Nintendo's 49%. Then Rare third party gaming company became first party company when Microsoft got all 100%
lies. lies. lies. 1995.....whahahaha. And Killer Instinct did not look or play like the arcade version when it did make it to the n64 even though Nintendo did promise arcade perfect ports. they were even so arrogant and stated in comments that for the first time it was arcade at home...seems like they forgot the Neo Geo that indeed did deliver arcade for home use without any flaws.
Neo Geo was not arcade perfect ports, probably the closest but far from pertfect. And where did Nintendo claim that it would be 100% perfect arcade ports? They did say they will have ports but perfect? I cant remember them saying that. maybe i am wrong about that. I love KI though, i wish i played the arcade version but it was never released where i am.
sorry to disappoint you but before the launch of the N64 Nintendo released a press release for the visitors of Space world that was supposed to answer the most common questions and there Nintendo did claim that the N64 quote "will deliver for the first time arcade perfect ports of KI and Cruisin for the home use". And please give me an example which Neo Geo game on the AES home version was different from the MVS version. in fact the rom chipset in AES and MVS games is identical (see conversions)
ULTRA 64 didn't happen because ULTRA was already trademarked by another company for a different product. And N64 was Nintendo's best system until they aimed at all kids. Rare is owned my Microsoft now.
@trailerboy415 Well there was a lawsuit because Konami owned Ultra Games so they just called it the N64. KI 1 came out on SNES and KI 2 came out on 64.
Nintendo was so cool back then.. They had great names "Super Nintendo" while the logo was sick, and "Ultra 64" which may of been the greatest console name ever. The hype for U64 was unreal. I was imagining amazing fighting games and all. Then Nintendo 64 comes out and ends up being a kiddy system. Same with the Gamecube and Wii.. Nintendo needs to focus on being an all ages console again. They went the wrong direction.
Imagine "Goldeneye 007" for the Ultra 64 instead of the Nintendo 64.
The Wii is not a kiddy system, it's obvious that you've yet to play Twilight Princess, or Red Steel, if you haven't I reccommend that you get out of the house and buy both games and the console, they'll prove you wrong.
Most likely, rare said they'd love to, but I'd love a direct port from this with the intro and everything, just change the big blue nintendo sign to microsoft.
I remember being like 10 and seeing this in the arcade. I always thought Nintendo should've stayed with the edgier sounding "Ultra 64". The Nintendo 64 with its much more cheery, colorful logo just seemed less cool to me after waiting years for it to finally come out. Notice it says coming in 1995, hah! The system didn't arrive until Sept 1996. This vid is from 94! Those two years were a huge wait!
hehe rare is doing great on ms tho. they still do somet things for nintendo, like diddy kong racing on ds. but i'd say its only a bit of time before killer instict sees the light of xbox 360 :D just like perfect dark and banjo kazooie
I love Killer Instinct and yeah I agree the SNES version was so limited many animations from the arcade version were left out include sounds such as the one when u make a n ultra combo in SNES u hear "ultra ultra ultra" while in arcade u hear "ULTRA COMBOOO"!! which is way cooler imo
hehe well actualy the first killer instict never made it to the n64 (previously named ultra 64). it ended up being on the snes with simplified graphics/gameplay

I saved all my money after i saw this at the arcade in 1994. Two years later and all i had was a Nintendo 64. :(

The graphics are. Back in the N64 era, it started off well with Star Wars, KI Gold, Waverace, Goldeneye, etc.
And then they went crazy with Pokemon, Mario Party etc. The graphics of Wii is the only reason why I haven't bought it. Still looks out of date.

They couldnt afford the "Ultra" badge. Also they NEVER released KI for the N64. They released the totally lame KI Gold. Thanx Nintendo.

There is a big rumor that Rare is gonna release this for Xbox Live Arcade. Of course with some changes like the opening.

Rare is done with Killer Instinct and anything else that is cool for that matter. They prefer us to play garbage like Banjo-Threeie and Viva Pinata.

Ultra 64 the arcade units had 2 times the RAM of the N64, and the storage was much better.
So Killer Instinck Gold was not as cool.
