close minded musicians are a cancer on society. there's no reason to hate on any of these featured artists, obviously if they're here they're legit. comparing andy mckee and periphery is just really retarded. both talented artists but so different...its like comparing chopin to metallica. stupid.
@antidrummer13 this. Im a big fan of periphery and andy mckee, both are actually right up there in my list of fave musician/bands. Variety in musical listening is fun and keeps my interest for longer
@Gabgabaujous Well let me rephrase that. Periphery makes music that sounds awful. They really are talentless and have no idea how to compose a song that sounds good. They just try to make the music complex
@AdvancedBBear How does either Periphery or Meshuggah blow? All to you if you don't like them, but by no means do they blow. These artists all write music to suit their own tastes, not yours. You're either 10 years old or an idiot.
Djent has got to be the dumbest idea ever.. I'm very open to metal. And i listen to pretty much every genre of music, but djent is just stupid beyond belief. Its the exact same chugga-chugga style riff over and over again in every song in a stupidly low tuning played on a 7-string. Its boring as all hell and very limited to what you can actually do. Only reason why everyone loves them is because they jumped on the bandwagon without thinking.
Honestly I couldn't care less about what genre bands are put in. All I know is that Periphery is fun to listen too and the first time I heard Tesseract, I had their album on a non-stop loop for about 2 weeks.
@Bludhoundz8 i totally fuckin agree dude, and all these dumbasses say the same shit...."it doesnt suck, its different! ur not open to change" blah blah, fuck off. its not change, its just some stupid "new concept" that some asshole came up with and put on youtube, its not even legit. oh, and Periphery sucks fuckin Zebra dick :D i wish ppl would stop being idiots and listen to real music....
@Bludhoundz8 I mostly agree with you; but you have to admit, those 3 guys are really tight. That was some difficult shit, and nobody lost time or each other once!
@BobSaggot666 Well, yeah, that is true. They are good players. Except for the one at the far right, closest to Rusty. He spent more time looking to the other two for approval and less time looking at his fretboard and focusing on the music.
@Bludhoundz8, first of all, djent is not really a genre but a playing style for guitar with its own guitar sounds as well. periphery, like meshuggah, is a band that is standing out not because theyre "jumping on the bandwagon" but cause theyre unique with an individual, respective sound. i totally dont understand how you could call them boring because of monotone style. listen to complex songs like buttersnips or totla mad and get the melodic and rythmic diversity
@Ghruul I do take that back now. Djent has really grown on me. Same with Periphery. Really enjoying the music now. And I do enjoy Meshuggah, i always have.
Alex Bois is such a sloppy guitarist. He spends half his time looking round for approval and less time looking at the fretboard. And now he's been replaced my Mark Holcomb who's infinitely better. Chuffed
Pretty sure this has been one of the most helpful vids i've seen so far. I've been so curious about Andy Mckees technique and i've always been curious about Misha's three part guitar composition technique.
@slanderoushalo yeah the most compressed gain you will ever hear -___-. honestly Periphery ain't my thing. Never found their riffs all that appealing. And Not a big fan of Djent outside of Meshugga.
@peoplesnyukka3 k, go ahead and learn some paganini caprices. maybe the tchiakovsky concerto. i bet i can post a vid of me covering some periphery before you can get the first 4 measures of any one of the caprices down and sounding polished. and i'd have to borrow a 7 string.
@ZyggieFromJiU o, i know it's not impossible. i've played it since i was three. and i'm not trying to underestimate any of these guitarists. i've been playing metal guitar for about 4 years now and i'm a big periphery fan. i'm just taking a little umbrage at somebody picking up a violin, scraping out a few notes and deeming it simple or easy. and fwiw, oli is a classical guy.
Well the idea behind having three guitars is that Periphery would be able to reproduce layers live (since their music often has many of them) while still having a stereo guitar sound underneath
from what i know of jamming with the few ppl i jam with and like this... its really difficult just to set up the right volumes and match up to each others tempo, i cant rmember if they used a clicker?
@AnataNile i think it's just because there's three guitarists playing and no drummer or click to keep time or anything like that. when almost every rhythm in the song is as syncopated as this, it's hard to keep time playing with other people without a drummer keeping a steady beat underneath.
It's good to see a bond of Electric and Acoustic. I know a lot of guys that completely abhor each other because what they play. It's awesome seeing these two completely different styles actually chill.
funny that many peoples think's they really understand's so many things about music, composition and playing, so they can judge. I guess how many of them can actually good. So, more practice :) less speaking.
@oilkills Yeah I just switched to a seven a few months ago. It helps with the style of music I play. If you haven't tried one you should especially if you like playing some of the faster heavier styles of metal. They are a lot of fun.
@oilkills Who gives a fuck how many strings you play? Some people are actually decent musicians and know how to use that wide range of notes. God damn so sick of people complaining about people using 7/8 strings.
@codyjay23 Personally I find it irrelevant. You can make something just as beautiful on a 6 string as you can a 7 or 8 string. And Id say all 3 require just as much talent as the next to make genuinely good music. Its simply a matter of what you want in your music specifically that determines what type of guitar range you should have. To be fair I don't see any logic behind complaining about what instrument plays, rather criticize what they play on it if anything.
