Carl Wilson is fucking AWESOME in this! He was always excellent in the music with the Boys and Solo stuff. The guy had a voice, so unique, sweet & rock and roll! No one has! RIP Carl Wilson.
Best version of Darlin. Carl was smokin hot in the vocals, Saw them live unfortunately they didn't sing Darlin. My man has sung this song to me for decade to him I will always be Darlin !!
so sad I never got see them live but so happy that they made all the lovely music........still have it blasting in the car....................... Thank-you BB's
"Don't know if words can say...But darlin' I'll find a way...To let you know what you meant to me" - Well, in some small way, here's my chance to let Carl know what he meant to me. Though I never got to know him personally, I did get to see many a Beach Boys show and was always amazed by his beautiful voice. We all still miss you, Carl. Thank you.
i agree..this clip proves and shows how great a singer carl was.
when i watch the lat night talk shows they always have a band on at the end..the bands are young people in their 20's...and they all..suck....their songwriting is awful, their singing sucks and they all sound and look the same..friggin bland...
....i am not being unfair or mean spirited....this is just an honest observation....
I actually met Carl Wilson and I was so happy to have shared a little time with him. It now feels like a great blessing - just around the time of this performance. RIP, dear Carl.
Saw the Beach Boys in '73 and Brian kept us waiting to begin the concert for two hours, then he kept going back stage. What's up with that? Still loved the concert and went to another the following year.
@katiejdr567 That was back when Brian was struggling with paralyzing stage fright...Glad you got to see them... Wish I had...Hello to a fellow Beach Boys fan !!
When i die i hope i will I finally meet Carl Wilson .. I never met him in this life .. but he fills my life with love and happiness with his wonderful and lovely voice. He is truly an angel.
This is how the group was when I saw them at Notre Dame ACC ...mid 70s. Carl had the green jacket on but Mike wore a white robe.Their roadie Jerry, from England, came up into the seats and chatted with me before the show.
Carl Wilson always lived up to what is written on his gravestone that he had the voice of an angel. When needed he could pour the gravel into the lyrics.
@RockPicard I can't help but think back at how with Hal Blaine he freed himself to go surfing rather than maybe staying in the studio and learning how to go from a clubber to a drummer. A great talent lost. To booze, to drugs, to Manson, to women, to the water.
Glad I saw them on the Parkway twice while Carl was still here.
Mistook this for a Chicago song the first couple times I heard it, but predates their first release by two years. And they later performed together("Wishing You Were Here"). Influence?
@KennyCetera I hope it gets posted somewhere soon, either here or a download site. Great to hear from people connected in some way to the musicians seen here. Ivy(?) Yost responds on Classics IV postings she finds. Thanks.
@KennyCetera Must have been when they toured together. :) I found a vid on here of "Darlin" at the Beach Boy's' 25th Ann. and Three Dog Night was singing it with Brian playing back-up. Very interesting footage. Just type in the search window ......Beach Boys-Darling ......... and Danny Hutton describes being mentored by Brian. Brian produced their first album under the name "Redwood". They later became Three Dog Night. :)
what a fucking brilliant version, although its moving at 100 mph!!..saw them on the weekend and they were sleepwalking through the set, although they did wake up to let john cowsill sing an equally great version of this song.........the beachboys will always be the best.
This is my favorite Beach Boys song ever and what a clip with Carl and Dennis in top form and the band hitting on all cylinders. The collection of guys they drag out today are NOT the Beach Boys. You can`t perpetuate this band without Carl, Dennis and Brian (who seldom joins them on stage). I like Mike Love and Alan Jardine but they are not the Beach Boys without the Wilsons.
This sounds very similiar to the original but i know its live, but exactly when this concert was taped is unknown to me, i'd say it was the mid-seventies according to their facial hair. I still prefer the original recording over ths live performance. Thx4 postin'
BB's were just on Dancing With the Stars last week. You can see the clip right here, on You Tube if your interested. They did California Girls, Kokomo and Fun, Fun, Fun. I did watch that one and although the band sounded pretty good, Mike's voice was barely audible and somewhat shaky. It left me feeling empty because Carl wasn't there singing Kokomo or playing his great intro to Fun, Fun, Fun. Carl was the best. We miss you, Darlin'.
Beautiful, man I wish the remaining living members would hang it up...to carry on without Carl and Dennis is like the Beatles trying to perform without John & George, or the Who trotting out on stage without Keith and John. It`s just not the same and to call what`s left by the group`s name is an insult in this fan`s opinion....

To me, for surviving members to parade themselves around as the Beach Boys without Carl and Dennis is the same as if Paul & Ringo went out on tour with others and called themselves the Beatles.
Gawd , I agree utterly and completely.... Brian was the most superb arranger... but Carl was the face and stability of the Beach Boys for so many years while Brian faced his demons.
