  • This is one of the best Beach Boy concerts ever. The chaps at Wembley really did their part, too. Just an awesome show, everyone really delivered.

  • Man, I love it when Carl roars out "more soul than I ever had!" at 1:05. Sounds great. Carl was brilliant

  • Carl Wilson is fucking AWESOME in this! He was always excellent in the music with the Boys and Solo stuff. The guy had a voice, so unique, sweet & rock and roll! No one has! RIP Carl Wilson.

    Love. The Ladykillers!

  • Carl Wilson fucking ROCKS in this.

  • GREAT vocals

  • THE BEST THE VERY BEST!

  • Saw the 2010 version of the BB's perform this tune in San Diego...really brought back great memories.

  • What a song !!!

  • I almost think this is Carl's signature song on stage, rather than God Only Knows. He really lets loose vocally on this performance in particular.

  • Best version of Darlin. Carl was smokin hot in the vocals, Saw them live unfortunately they didn't sing Darlin. My man has sung this song to me for decade to him I will always be Darlin !!

  • My Mam LOVED this song !!!

  • Dennis is on fire man!!!!

  • so sad I never got see them live but so happy that they made all the lovely music........still have it blasting in the car....................... Thank-you BB's

  • Why isn't Dennis tagged?

  • "Don't know if words can say...But darlin' I'll find a way...To let you know what you meant to me" - Well, in some small way, here's my chance to let Carl know what he meant to me. Though I never got to know him personally, I did get to see many a Beach Boys show and was always amazed by his beautiful voice. We all still miss you, Carl. Thank you.

  • @Gidget521 you said it all.. Carl lives in his music and in our hearts.

  • Did Mike Love have to open his yap at the end?

  • As I said my Mam loved this so this lives on as one of my fave songs !!

  • Way too much masculinity on stage.....it's getting really hot in here.....:)

  • I loved this.

    My Mam loved this.

    Happy days.

  • Brilliant!!!

    The greatest band EVER.

  • Wish Beach boys could put a album out in this day and age!

  • CARL...what A talent...a great singer...wow

  • @ChiroQuacker Yeah, I cant believe my ears. Carl is amazing as a live singer!

  • @kraken138

i agree..this clip proves and shows how great a singer carl was.

when i watch the lat night talk shows they always have a band on at the end..the bands are young people in their 20's...and they all..suck....their songwriting is awful, their singing sucks and they all sound and look the same..friggin bland...

....i am not being unfair or mean spirited....this is just an honest observation....

  • Hold you in my arms.....Oh Oh Every night OH OH Darlin UH UHH

  • I actually met Carl Wilson and I was so happy to have shared a little time with him. It now feels like a great blessing - just around the time of this performance. RIP, dear Carl.

  • im going to see them in greensboro tonite. know it will be great but not the same without the root of the group. Mr. Brian Wilson!

  • Carl Wilson...the voice of the angels

  • I dont know how many times I see this but this is one of my favorite ever songs !!

  • They're not only Great Musically.

    They're much more than that.

They Shaped and Defined a Culture of Sun,Sand,Surf, and Street.

And it ain't ever gonna die.

    Ever.

  • i love and miss Carl's voice.xxx

  • We miss you Carl

  • Carl's singing at 1:05 is just amazing.

  • @spursareshit I Agree. This version really moves along nicely .The Ba...Ba...Baas are so effortless.

  • Saw the Beach Boys in '73 and Brian kept us waiting to begin the concert for two hours, then he kept going back stage. What's up with that? Still loved the concert and went to another the following year.

  • @katiejdr567 That was back when Brian was struggling with paralyzing stage fright...Glad you got to see them... Wish I had...Hello to a fellow Beach Boys fan !!

  • "The world is a far lesser place without you"

  • I agree please change the title to "DARLIN"

  • @mdefil23

I don't know how to do that!

  • @mdefil23

Found it! Title is Darlin' now!

  • @Flipse023 thank you!

  • PLEASE change the title. Drives me nuts everytime I see it !! The song is titled " DARLIN' "; not Darling. Thank you very much

  • @BeachBoysGuy1

I don't know how to do that!

  • @BeachBoysGuy1

Found it! Title is Darlin now

  • Heaven must be wonderful .. Eva Cassidy and Carl Wilson singing together ... sometimes wish I was there

  • When i die i hope i will I finally meet Carl Wilson .. I never met him in this life .. but he fills my life with love and happiness with his wonderful and lovely voice. He is truly an angel.

  • @bjjartse How would you meet Carl Wilson if you die? Huh?

  • @mdefil23

It's wonderful to believe because it's truth

  • This was Knebworth England 1980. I know cause I was there!... Last time the original Beach Boys played live together...RIP Carl and Dennis

  • go carl go

  • Dennis played the hell outta those drums,,,Carl sang it with the same sense of urgency. Thanks be to Flip for providing this tune.

  • Define Rock Music - simple - The Beach Boys.

  • This is how the group was when I saw them at Notre Dame ACC ...mid 70s. Carl had the green jacket on but Mike wore a white robe.Their roadie Jerry, from England, came up into the seats and chatted with me before the show.

  • Carl Wilson ..the voice of the Angels

  • Love it all! Carl was second only to Brian. Miss those boys so very much.

  • This is one, if not the best male voice i have ever heard... Great CW!

  • goan yersel bigman!!!!

  • Carl Wilson is beyond words...Im speechless

  • Brother Carl at his finest. When these Boys from Hawthorn raise their voices in glorious harmony, it is like a shot of Heaven! thanks

  • carl held it together

  • carl held togehter

  • Carl rocks!!

  • Carl's voice was out of this world.......and what a sweetie.

  • Carl's voice was out of this world...and what a sweetie!

  • Did they normally perform Darlin' at such a fast pace? Seems like about a half step faster than on 'Wild Honey'

  • @cubswin1982 Coke

  • The Kings of facial hair!! This is easily one of the Beach Boys best ever tracks. Jeez Carl Wilson could sing. Brilliant.

  • Carl Wilson always lived up to what is written on his gravestone that he had the voice of an angel. When needed he could pour the gravel into the lyrics.

  • love it love it love it.

  • Dennis is hot on the drums on that song, what a great song it is , Carl and Mike are great on singing.

  • @RockPicard I can't help but think back at how with Hal Blaine he freed himself to go surfing rather than maybe staying in the studio and learning how to go from a clubber to a drummer. A great talent lost. To booze, to drugs, to Manson, to women, to the water.

  • @phddddd pacifc ocean blue is proof that he was so much more than a drummer

  • @phddddd pacific ocean blue is proof that he is so much more than a drummer

  • carl wilson is one of the best singers of all time

  • carl we love you. still miss you today.

  • Glad I saw them on the Parkway twice while Carl was still here.

Mistook this for a Chicago song the first couple times I heard it, but predates their first release by two years. And they later performed together("Wishing You Were Here"). Influence?

  • @fgldnglbs Funny, because I just received a very rare audio file of my brother Peter singing lead on this live with the Beach Boys.

  • @KennyCetera I hope it gets posted somewhere soon, either here or a download site. Great to hear from people connected in some way to the musicians seen here. Ivy(?) Yost responds on Classics IV postings she finds. Thanks.

  • @KennyCetera Must have been when they toured together. :) I found a vid on here of "Darlin" at the Beach Boy's' 25th Ann. and Three Dog Night was singing it with Brian playing back-up. Very interesting footage. Just type in the search window ......Beach Boys-Darling ......... and Danny Hutton describes being mentored by Brian. Brian produced their first album under the name "Redwood". They later became Three Dog Night. :)

  • I just can't take it anymore....all this masculinity on one stage....why do I have to suffer like this???? I sure love men....and this song! :)

  • Awesome song, awesome band. Is it just me, or does every woman out there want to have sex with the entire band? One at a time, of course.....:)

  • @litenslick Nope, just Carl...

but I'd gladly go to a baseball game with Al.

This version of D is so tight -- gives me a thrill, esp. when Carl wails "more soul than I ever had." He had it, that's for sure.

  • What a voice...

  • Love that Carl!

  • what a fucking brilliant version, although its moving at 100 mph!!..saw them on the weekend and they were sleepwalking through the set, although they did wake up to let john cowsill sing an equally great version of this song.........the beachboys will always be the best.

  • so good

  • It is amazing what one can create in just 2:21 minutes of time...R.I.P. Carl Wilson! And of course Dennis Wilson!

  • love you Carl Wilson, miss you.rest in peace sweet angel.

  • beautiful song with great lyrics. How much more romantic can a man get than saying to a woman "I was living like half a man"

  • God I miss him! One of the highlights of my LIFE was meeting him. The voice and heart of an angel.

  • What a gift to are rock and roll.

  • This is my favorite Beach Boys song ever and what a clip with Carl and Dennis in top form and the band hitting on all cylinders. The collection of guys they drag out today are NOT the Beach Boys. You can`t perpetuate this band without Carl, Dennis and Brian (who seldom joins them on stage). I like Mike Love and Alan Jardine but they are not the Beach Boys without the Wilsons.

  • carl wilson,,,,,,sadly missed voice

  • Love these guys they are just iconic and sexy to match....:)

  • love and miss you Carl...this is a great song

  • Beach Boys in their PRIME!

  • I like this song at this tempo. Faster and Carl ROCKS !!

  • thank you..Knebworth of course.

  • these twere he best beachboys sounds post 60's...

carl just owning this one and everyone there right on the live in concert money..

this looks like 76,,,15 big ones stuff....am i too early?

    jctoronto

  • @jctorontojctoronto

This was the Knebworth Festival in 1980

  • @Flipse023 that's right, with the "Don't Panic" sign offstage for Brian. the energy in this song is addictive -- i can never play it only once.

  • @Flipse023 Not possible, Dennis was dead before '80.

  • @PawneeBill47

    Dennis_Wilson died December 28, 1983

  • @Flipse023 My bad, I had my decades mixed up, happens when you get old.

  • @Flipse023 Why would 7 people like your comment? That's just dumb. Dennis Wilson was a great person, people!

  • This sounds very similiar to the original but i know its live, but exactly when this concert was taped is unknown to me, i'd say it was the mid-seventies according to their facial hair. I still prefer the original recording over ths live performance. Thx4 postin'

  • no-one sings Darlin' like Carl!

  • Fav BB song & Fav Beach Boy!! GO CARL GO...Luv ya man, RIP

  • DARLIN! i miss you-nothing can touch this magic!---Branden

  • BB's were just on Dancing With the Stars last week. You can see the clip right here, on You Tube if your interested. They did California Girls, Kokomo and Fun, Fun, Fun. I did watch that one and although the band sounded pretty good, Mike's voice was barely audible and somewhat shaky. It left me feeling empty because Carl wasn't there singing Kokomo or playing his great intro to Fun, Fun, Fun. Carl was the best. We miss you, Darlin'.

  • rip carl.

  • tragic and beautiful...love you

  • I think they should perform til they decide they are through. They are the greatest, all of them.

  • Carl Rocks!!!

  • Very nice song!!!!

  • Poor Dennis

  • Beautiful, man I wish the remaining living members would hang it up...to carry on without Carl and Dennis is like the Beatles trying to perform without John & George, or the Who trotting out on stage without Keith and John. It`s just not the same and to call what`s left by the group`s name is an insult in this fan`s opinion....

  • Good, but too fast.

  • Carl!!! Gosh I love him.

  • This is one of those videos, where you just gotta say, SING IT CARL!!!! Oh man, what a voice he had!

  • @CDH41057 Carl was amazing. God rest his soul.

  • carl really shows his vocals here

nice to see the whole band

    great song

  • what year was this?

  • @SmileySmileAM 1980, Knebworth, England. Smoking.

  • @SmileySmileAM1980

I saw them the same year in Tivoli Gardens Copenhagen with the original libe up.

    How cool is that??

  • Wow Carl was such a great vocalist.R.I.P

  • I'm a Dennis fan ,,Poor guy, :(

  • carl was at the top of his game! RIP

  • Just a little too fast! but outstanding as well! macca (London)

  • They did this way too fast though.

  • I have to disagree; this is so much better than the original and I love the original! Once you get over the initial shock of the speed of this, it is just fantastic. imho :)

  • agree

  • Best song they ever did in my opinion , fabulous !

  • I love the Beach Boys, My favorate song is kokomo

  • Carl makes this song his own.I love dennis's unique way he plays the drums.

  • Yes Mike really makes this....he is so underrated and misunderstood

  • You`re kidding right? Mike plays tambourine and sings a barely audible back up. That "makes" it? Mike had his Beach Boy moments but this song wasn`t one of them...

  • Ha ha ...YES I was absolutely kidding !! It sounds so weird saying how Mike "made" that song......I just wanted to say it.

Mind you he plays a mean tambourine...almost as good as Tracy from the Partridge Family with her triangle !!!

  • That`s hilarious (Tracy from the Partridge Family) Ahahahahahaha. I love a good sense of humor, how about the lead guitar player for the Bay City Rollers? S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y NIGHT!

  • @pilesovinyl Mike wrote lyrics to this so while his singing isn't showcased in this song he was still an important part of it and the harmony blend

  • Great intro! Superb song!

  • carl no 1 forever amen

  • This is my favorite Beach Boys track and Carl is the heart and soul of the band. Brian gets the props and deservedly so for his compositions, but in performance Carl was central. To me, for surviving members to parade themselves around as the Beach Boys without Carl and Dennis is the same as if Paul & Ringo went out on tour with others and called themselves the Beatles.

  • Gawd , I agree utterly and completely.... Brian was the most superb arranger... but Carl was the face and stability of the Beach Boys for so many years while Brian faced his demons.

  • GOLD.. thats all i have to say

  • I absolutely love this song and the beach boys are # 1.

  • Wow, this song is one of my best!

  • Carl is just outstanding.!

  • I play this concert cd in my car every day ,.yes every day coz it makes me so happy ..with the windows down and up full...

  • Beach Boys Fan Forever! This is the best the Beach Boys did! Love this song!

  • fantastic wish id been there!!

  • Best live concert by The Beach Boys. They were on their game here....great stuff.

  • totaly agree!!

  • OMG, this is SO brilliant, I must have listened to it nearly 100 times over the weeked since finding it. Carl is just fantastic and the others are great too.

  • You should get the DVD. It's great !

  • I did! And it is FABULOUS, just fabulous.

  • Brian Wilson calls Darlin' "the best song the Beach Boys ever did". You got that right.

Beach Boys Forever. Best Song Ever.

  • My all time favorite Beach Boy song and Carl`s finest moment in my opinion. Any configuration of the remaining members cannot be the Beach Boys without Carl and Dennis. Its stupid for them to promote themselves as half of what once was.

  • Is this from Knebworth 1980?

  • Yep. Thanks to you asking this I bought it on DVD. :)

  • Comment removed

  • Looks like it - I went to see Fleetwood Mac at Wembley Arena the same day Knebworth was on. When we were on the train back to the North East, a few people got on who'd been to Knebworth & they said the Beach Boys were great. Although I think this song is awsome, Stevie Nicks in her prime or Carl Wilson? Hmmm now let me think..............

  • Carl`s unmistakeable voice is much missed

  • I WANT Carl's green breaker. I hope it's featured in the R 'n' Roll Hall of Fame.

  • Ron Darling's warm up music

  • Yet again, Mike Love rooolz. And Carl did a good job too.

  • He does ?

  • Who's the singer?

  • The singer is Carl Wilson
