launched many ships that way. the only one to get damaged was the 1st staten island ferry. Broke most of the windows on one side. The rest of them they borded up B4 launch
Alright, cool! Green Bay area, huh? Nice. Ill be wandering around with LCDR VanDerHulst and another cadet, we're getting there tomorrow actually, we're going to be part of some VIP function. If you havent heard of VanDerHulst before, you might want to meet him, hes a cool guy that can get ou into some special stuff. I'm in the John F Kennedy Division, if you see us, give a holler! Ask for Kolb...
This warship, which is the Navy's first focused-mission ship, will be used for anti-submarine warfare, surface warfare, and mine warfare missions. The ship will be 378 feet long with a beam of 57 feet, and its top speed will range from 45 to 60 knots, depending on its load. The ship's innovative design allows it to turn 360 degrees in less than eight lengths at top speed and to accelerate to full speed in less than two minutes. Marinette Marine to build the lead ship
spn, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe she uses the azipod propulsion. It's an electric motor suspended under the stern and the pods themselves turn, instead of a rudder. This allows a ship to make such tight turns.
It doesn't use Azipod propulsion. it has 2x 48k HP gas turbine engines, that turn 4 turbines that are inset into her hull beneath, with a large rudder.
Well I guess it's that big to be able to carry out humanitary missions. But still there are smaller ships out there with better combat capability in littoral waters. They are however not able to, and not meant for humanitary missions. Well thats just my 2 cents anyway.
Depends on the mission. One of her design parameters was "humanitarian missions". She has a huge flight deck, 2 helicopters and operates in shallow water. There are plenty of disasters and other incidents where she could easily render humanitarian aid.
I was in the yard and it's a lot cooler from across the river...although it is cool to see it launch close up. the whole ceremony was pretty boring leading up to the launch...most top people kissing their own asses talking about how good they are and what they've done...blah blah blah

Impressive for a ship that size. Didn't think the ship would be that capable, but guess i was wrong.

Looks very big for a LCS. But guess it's the American way, the bigger the better :P

it is also supposed to be able to do around 40kts in waters a shallow as 15ft.
