Sadly 1962's reputation of being a bit on the dull side is largely justified. "Un Premier Amour" stands head and shoulders above the rest and its win was thoroughly deserved. I do quite like the Yugoslav entry, and despite it being clearly awful I can't bring myself to dislike "Ring-a-Ding Girl" (no matter how hard I try). None of the others provokes any reaction in me at all. Fortunately there would be far stronger stuff the next year.
My German vote: 1 to United Kingdom (Belgium) 2 to Sweden (United Kingdom) 3 to Italy (Sweden) 4 to Germany (Italy) 5 to Spain 6 to Netherlands 7 to Switzerland 8 to Norway 10 to Finland 12 to France
I know that the voting is over, but here are the Brazilian votes, anyway: 1p: Monaco 2p: France 3p: Austria 4p: UK 5p: Yugoslavia 6p: Norway 7p: Denmark 8p: Germany 10p: Finland 12p: Sweden
Isabelle Aubret's gorgeous ballad secured a second win for France - and, like 1960, also a comfortable one. Otherwise, though, the perky, catchy numbers (Sweden, Germany, Finland - in their first great showing) won the day over the classic-style ballads (Monaco, Yugoslavia, Norway). And Austria scores a 4th last-place in 6 years (!) - although Carmela nd Udo will soon help them reverse their fortunes.
And I am glad to see that those "perky, catchy" ones have done so well, especially Germany & Finland, though I also loved Norway & Yugoslavia. Though Le Premier Amour has grown on me I think it is the French song I liked least in all the early years. IMO La Source was a much better song for Isabelle.

Merci au jurie luxembourgeois pour sa votation! :-) It has caused a few changes in our scoreboard, with Germany catching up with the UK in 3rd place and Italy returning to the top-10: 1) France 86 2) Sweden 67 =3) Germany 62 =3) UK 62 5) Finland 52 6) Netherlands 51 7) Yugoslavia 45 =8) Monaco 32 =8) Switzerland 32 10) Italy 29 Last place: still Austria, with 7 points
Oops!!! I somehow managed to not count Zaromij's voting in my previous update, so the whole chart is wrong! THIS is the right one (and thanks for noting, my friend!): 1) France 98 2) Sweden 74 3) UK 68 4) Germany 67 5) Finland 62 6) Netherlands 54 7) Yugoslavia 45 8) Monaco 36 9) Norway 35 10) Switzerland 32 Last place: Austria, with 9 points
1 point to YUGOSLAVIA 2 points to SPAIN 3 points to MONACO 4 points to AUSTRIA 5 points to ITALY 6 points to UNITED KINGDOM 7 points to SWEDEN 8 points to LUXEMBOURG
10 points to FRANCE
12 points to GERMANY
THIS ARE MY VOTES AND GREETINGS FROM LUXEMBOURG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Finland is back in the top-3 (tied for 3rd place with the UK), while Germany's Conny also returns to the top-5. The current results: 1) France 88 2) Sweden 67 =3) Finland 62 =3) UK 62 5) Germany 55 6) Netherlands 54 7) Yugoslavia 44 8) Norway 35 9) Monaco 33 10) Switzerland 32 ...And you can watch the whole contest (well, almost) in my playlists!
Thanks to RMENZ's 12 points, the UK makes a remarkable leap from 6th to 3rd place ("ring-a-ding", indeed!): 1) France 76 2) Sweden 60 3) UK 56 4) Finland 52 5) Netherlands 51 6) Germany 50 7) Yugoslavia 44 8) Switzerland 32 9) Monaco 29 10) Norway 27
Mangoteppe's voting (though he should be disqualified for giving points to Austria - just kidding!) helps Finland's Marion Rung climb to 3rd place and Monaco return to the top-10: 1) France 72 2) Sweden 60 3) Finland 52 =4) Germany 50 =4) Netherlands 50 6) UK 44 7) Yugoslavia 34 8) Monaco 26 9) Switzerland 25 10) Italy 24
My Top 10: (Without Norway) 1 point: Spain 2 : United Kingdom 3 : Austria (It wasn't THAT bad...) 4 : Yugoslavia 5 : Netherland 6 : Monaco 7 : Germany 8 : Finland 10 : Sweden And the 12 points goes to: France (One of many french masterpieces!)
Isabelle's still on top, with Sweden unexpectedly moving up to the runner-up spot, although positions 2 to 6 are really close, so... anything could happen! The latest top-10: 1) France 60 2) Sweden 50 3) Netherlands 45 4) Finland 44 5) Germany 43 6) UK 42 7) Yugoslavia 30 8) Switzerland 25 9) Italy 24 10) Norway 22 Austria still with no points (and I can't imagine who woud vote for this, anyway...)
Thanks to ESCsince1968's 12 points, Germany continues moving upward and is now very close to the top-3, while Yugoslavia breaks in the top-10 and Norway's also back in the upper reaches of the scoreboard. The current results: 1) France 50 2) Netherlands 45 3) Sweden 44 4) Germany 42 5) Finland 40 6) UK 30 7) Yugoslavia 27 8) Switzerland 25 =9) Italy 22 =9) Norway 22 ...And you can watch the whole contest (well, almost) in my playlists!
My '62 vote is: Monaco 1 pt UK 2 pts Switzerland 3 France 4 Netherlands 5 (Itdoes have a catchiness to it) Sweden 6 Finland 7 (also catchy and it is Marion Rung) Norway 8 (one of those lovely ballads) Yugoslavia 10 (even lovelier ballad) Germany 12 (great tune)
Again Un Premier Amour was one of those songs that I could never understand why it won, it is a bit dull, but has grown on me, but I think there are many better from that year.
France's Isabelle Aubret maintains her lead (with, much to my friend coccola's dismay, the Dutch still in as runners-up), while Germany's Connie Froebess climbs to 5th place and Monaco breaks in the top-10. The latest results: 1) France 46 2) Netherlands 40 3) Sweden 38 4) Finland 33 5) Germany 30 6) UK 28 =7) Italy 22 =7) Switzerland 22 9) Monaco 19 10) Denmark 18 Still with nul points: Austria
How weird it is that you all guys seem to like that annoying song from the Netherlands. And Tasos 10 points!?!? Well, everybody with their own taste ;) Here is mine: 1 point Switzerland 2. Germany 3. Belgium 4. Yugoslavia 5. UK 6. Sweden 7. Finland 8. Denmark 10. Monaco 12. France
Hey, I gave you my 8, what are you complaining about? :-) Yeah, I recognize 10 points may be too much, but I still find "Katinka" to be a quite catchy number. Besides, as I said, this was a year where, apart from my 12 points, the rest of my top-10 could be in a totally different order, since almost none of these (good, but not great) songs REALLY stand out from the rest.
After 4 votes coming in, here's a first top-10: 1) France 34 2) Netherlands 28 3) Sweden 26 4) Finland 22 =5) Italy 19 =5) Switzerland 19 =7) Germany 18 =7) UK 18 9) Norway 14 10) Denmark 10 Still with nul points: Austria and Spain (both deservedly, IMO!) ...And you can watch the whole contest (well, almost) in my playlists!
I agree this wasnt such a great year,but it had some nice songs:),now to my vote:Here are the Patrick vote; 1.Norway 2.Monaco 3.Italy 4.Switzerland 5.Netherlands 6.France 7.Germany 8.Finland 10.United Kingdom And finally 12.Sweden
Indeed, 1962 wasn't such a strong year. I already knew my 12, but I struggled a bit for the rest of the top-10, since nothing else really stands head and shoulders above the rest. So, here's my voting: 1 point: Yugoslavia 2: Sweden 3: Monaco 4: Germany 5: Norway 6: Switzerland 7: Italy 8: Finland 10: Netherlands and 12 points to... France (of all the early French wins, this was the one time they really deserved it)
Starting off the voting for '62: 1 point: Luxembourg 2 points: Monaco 3 points: Netherlands 4 points: Italy 5 points: Yugoslavia 6 points: Switzerland 7 points: Norway 8 points: Belgium 10 points: Denmark 12 points: France Kind of a weak contest, with France, Denmark and Belgium (why null points?) standing out in a pretty paltry field. The first Italian mis-fire after four years of enduring classics.
Well, yes, "Addio, Addio" may be a flop by Italian standards, but I must say I still like it, and Claudio Villa's performance. Of course, as I've said, I have a thing for this kind of melodramatic ballads (that's probably why I also like Switzerland from the same year)...

Not the best of the early contests, but still plenty of nice songs - Belgium, Norway & Denmark deserved a bit better.
