Tom! Hey thanks alot! Fell in love with this tune at band practice when #1 guitar guy played it(I'm #2 and play like #2 too!) I picked this up fast thanks to you. Might get a little respect next practice when I pull it out.
Dmoon...why on earth are you giving people assbackwards advice. the song is played in drop D. how else can you play the parts after the solo. FYI the entire song you never use the low E string (which is the string that is tuned down). So playing in standard or drop D wouldn't change anything in the song except the small part after the solo (which has to be in drop D)
It says on the description that it's in drop D. Everyone trying to learn this incredible song, don't pay attention to that. It's in standard if you want it to sound right.
You won't get the middle section to sound right if you don't drop the low E down to D. It's an old trick, and Page employed it whenever it suited a song.
Tom says....By dropping the D it gives me the option to 'balls-out ' on the bottom end of the chord structure and provide a couple of D chord embellishments, as well as more options to a "bells and whistles" type approach to chord voicings that ring out in the mid-range. Confused? Relax...I am currently working on a DVD to explain this and other self-explored techniques that I've found throughout my years of playing and composing."
Sorry, I'm actually wrong! I didn't think about my incorrect comment until i looked at the tab version in Guitar world one month, and realized how retarded i was! Sorry for leading you the wrong way! Ha ha ha check out my Black Dog video rate comment and subscibe!!!
Hey Tom..awesome videos....great lessons. I took guitar lessons from you some 20 years ago for around 12 months. Warren Nunes scales, relative minor scales, Led Zep tunes, etc. I still use what I learned from you today. I hope you put out more videos like this cuz you were an awesome teacher and guitarist...!
Always loved this tune!
