Okay, I understand the pottery barn principle. However, Iraq isn't Germany, and it isn't Japan. Those two countries were a lot more united in thought and culture at the time of their defeat. Iraq is splintered in it's interests. If we're going to stay for a long time (which seems likely), it should be to protect them from foreign invasion, not to be their police force. We should secure the borders (which we can't even do at home) from military outposts away from their cities.
Instead of containing the mess, we're busting down doors and taking fire arms from them. Imagine if the British tried that on the US before the Revolutionary War. I agree that when they ask for help, we give it, but when they don't want us there, we shouldn't be. Our goal was topple Saddam's regime (at least it became that), and find WMD. Actually the people spoke when they wouldn't fund his campaign or vote for him. Remember, firing his staff, etc.. While people got behind Paul, campaign funding records, etc.. If you think about McAmnesty, he only got "rolling" when Big Global, War Profiting, Lobbiest, started to fund his campaign, against the Voters, Republican and Democrats, wishes. War isn't the only way to have a good economy. The Great Depression was largely fought by FDR's New Deal, not just war income. I agree that we should be fighting in the Middle, but not in Iraq. We should have finished our war in Afghanistan, instead of chasing WMD that wasn't there. It's easy to see in retrospect that it was a mistake to go into Iraq under the original reasons cited, but to stay there now is lunacy. We should shift our focus to Afghanistan and finish the job.

America is in the midst of an economy depression. Our gas prices are heading to $4/gallon. We have gone from a surplus to record deficit under Bush's watch. We have invaded a foreign country under false pretense and thousands of Americans & Iraq citizens have died. We have sent our jobs overseas. Our freedoms are eroding. I do like him because he is his own man, able to think "outside the box" and work with others in Congress to get things done. But, regarding taxes...proportionately, the working class is paying more than the wealthy with Bush's tax cuts...remember the comments of Warren Buffett and his complaints to the media about this very thing. Agreed. President Bush has set the bar so low that for the first election in a long time, I'm choosing between candidates that are not just the lesser of evils. I think any of the three remaining candidates would make a great president. But some are better than others. While McCain has an honorable military record and years of public service, I don't agree with his "stay the course" attitude towards Iraq.

Bush has put this country into a quagmire that will take years to fix, and our children are going to be the ones to pay the price (because today's greedy people don't believe in fiscal responsibility). What we should be doing is fighting the terrorists responsible for 9/11, not nation building in the middle east.

You're only now realizing that Iraq has nothing to do with 9/11? Saddam was denying WMD site inspections for years before 9/11, Bill Clinton even bombed him over the fact. I agree we shouldn't be nation building, it is not our responsibility. But the fact is that we are in Iraq, and leaving it in the mess we created isn't responsible in itself but more a spiteful and political lash at Bush. We need to do what is in the interest of our own country while maintaining responsibility for our actions.

Okay, I understand the pottery barn principle. However, Iraq isn't Germany, and it isn't Japan. Those two countries were a lot more united in thought and culture at the time of their defeat. Iraq is splintered in it's interests. If we're going to stay for a long time (which seems likely), it should be to protect them from foreign invasion, not to be their police force. We should secure the borders (which we can't even do at home) from military outposts away from their cities.

Instead of containing the mess, we're busting down doors and taking fire arms from them. Imagine if the British tried that on the US before the Revolutionary War. I agree that when they ask for help, we give it, but when they don't want us there, we shouldn't be. Our goal was topple Saddam's regime (at least it became that), and find WMD. Forcing our style of government and culture on them isn't going to bring their love and admiration.

ive read some comments about gas prices going up unless we do something. other comments about the oil companies not being able to survive or tring to cut us off if we attempt to fix the price. there is a rediculous amount of oil off the west coast, alaska, and the gulf coast. dont feel sorry for the oil companies, they dont care about the average person that has to pay 2 times what there product should be selling for.
