Dave, great stuff, recently read your Basic Training West Side book, and didn't even set it down, just went through it one more time. Thanks for your dedication to your sport man.
Thanks much, I tried to reply a bit more, I know I'm bad for babbling too much, but for some reason I could not verify that my last post, or the one that did NOT post up, were actually successful. Nevertheless Dave, you've answered my last post as well as what I was GOING to post. I was going to mention that I was starting light and really going for a feeling of a HEALTHY back and HAMSTRINGS! Focus on TECHNIQUE too even though movement seems simple. You rock bro! Thanks for ur customer service!
Sorry Dave for the vague Q & appreciate ur reply. X-rays show low back (LB) arthritis, with more tests pending & resting it has proved counterproductive. I've pulled both hams years ago but never strengthened them up again. So I'm looking to strengthen the entire posterior chain. I wanna use some sugg from "EFS Classic: 16 Ways to Maximize your Glute Ham Raise", but from what I understand for those with low back issues bent-over movements should be with arch maintained, thus my target is hams.
Don't know that Dave will ever see the post here, I'd think probably not, but knowing Dave and his customer service, he has a way to reply? Anyway, with the "arch back GM" are they any less effective because of the short ROM or is the fact that you hold the arch make them even more effective than allowing to round the lower back? Wondered this with stiff-legged deads too? Thanks
He's responded to at least three of my questions via YouTube comment. If you're really desperate for his response you may have to post twice, but he does reply.
Effective for what? I would need to know why you would be doing them or what your weak point is. In other words they are used for different reasons. To explain them all would exceed the character limit. What are you looking to use them for?
Sorry Dave, I guess I just assumed both were used for total "posterior chain strength development". OK, so I'm thinking that the strict holding of the arch in the wide stance GM will target the hamstrings more because of minimal contribution from the back extensors which remain static and supportive as opposed to shortening and lifting. I have not identified what is my weak point but I know X-rays are showing low back arthritis and I've pulled both hammies years ago and they are VERY WEAK!
In your case I would suggest an arch back GM really focusing on pushing your hips back. Act like you are trying to stretch your hamstring. When you feel like your back wants to round ARCH out. I would also suggest you keep the weight light and focus on the stretch.
Oh shoot, I see that my replies appear in different areas, with my other reply being at the top of the page, and that the replies are "pending approval". I apologize for this, and since you've answered my Q's I can remove my comments shortly so that I'm not cluttering your clip's comments. Sorry I'm new to youtube! Thanks for everything you do for us, and your patience. I'll delete tomorrow if you confirm you'd like me to??!!
what kind of GM would you suggest for lower back strength, mainly to assist in the deadlift?
