It's not bad, I'd like them to make a sequel because it ends with a cliffhanger. I thought the story was the best part but you'd probably have to be a Sonic fan to enjoy it.
i think bioware made this and sega was just the publisher. i don't even think sega them selves make many actual games and more. alot of people don't realize that just because it says SEGA doesn't mean 'they' made it. what i am surprised it at is that they allowed bioware to use their precious mascot. at least they have good taste, bioware is a great company~

I don't really find a Sonic RPG to be strange since Mario has his own RPG games. I have Mario Superstar Saga and I liked it, although I was a bit skeptical at first because it was a Mario RPG. I'm thinking of giving this game a try as well.

As for "most recent sonic games being rather disappointing", it still holds true. A friend of mine is a huge sonic fan and also holds this position. I suppose that ds game you mention was not a disappointment, but Sonic 2006 for Xbox was horrible, Sonic and the Secret Rings was mediocre, and Sonic Unleashed is just barely good, given that most people absolutely hate the Hedgehog parts of it.
They key to this statement is "most", which means not all of them are, but most of them.
i do agree on that, the new Sonic games for xbox and playstation and wii sucks - in fact i an very dissapointed with Sonic Unleashed and many other 3D sonic games for modern consoles. i think the only good 3D Sonic games are Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 but can you tell me how Sonic Rush has outsold Mario Galaxy and Mario Kart wii combined and even super smash brothers brawl? lol :) and it's for a handheld system lol

This is hilarious given I have visited vgchartz. c o m, under games, selected the s(where both sonic and super mario games are located, conveniently) and sorted the games by sales, which landed Super Mario Bros for NES on first place with 40.24m sales, and Sonic The Hedgehog 2 being the best selling sonic game on 16th place with 6m sales.

i actually just got this game for Christmas along wth a DS Lite but i just wanted to say i've never got into an RPG before. i disliked them but i love the Sonic universe so i decided to give this one a try and i love it! if it wasn't for this game coming out i probably would never given the rpg genra a chance. i played Star Wars KOTOR, Final Fantasy, Gundamn RPG, Dissegea and manyothers but never got into them, never saw a reason to. I really like this game and it's from Bioware more than Sega!

For an RPG game, SOnic has a better flow with better characters and better stories, with mario it's all the same... there are no twists.

I did own this games. They of course do not compare in terms of RPG gameplay to other classic RPG's like Final Fantasy or Chrono Trigger, but they are fantastic games on their own. Judging by reviews and what I've read from Sonic Chronicles, it's also rather crappy for an rpg, so I don't really understand how you can judge the mario rpg's for something that this game also lacks.

The reason why Sonic Chornicals is far better than any RPG is because it has a great storyline, solid combat system, 10 playable characters, and pretty decent character customization. Point is, you claim that Sonic Chronicles is a much better RPG than any Mario RPG, but that's a rather dumb thing to claim given that this game, like the Mario RPG's, was not aimed at hardcore RPG players, thus lacks the same things as the Mario RPG's lack. You claim the story is better, however from what I've read of it, the story of Sonic Chronicles is not deep, and is as predictable as Mario RPG's stories.
I do not claim Mario RPG's to be better, but they certainly aren't worse than this.

From what I've found out, Mario games have sold more over the history than Sonic games. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for instance sold 6 Million copies, while Super Mario World sold 20 Million copies. That being a rough estimate of course. SMG has sold 6.1 million copies, and that hasn't been rivaled by any of the current gen sonic games.

It did last for more than 2 weeks. In my opinion it was a sucky show, but I hold the same opinion for the Sonic animated show. Both are average-quality animated shows. Sonic had more success as an animated series, but that alone does not make the franchise any more successful, it just means whatever team put the mario animated series together did a bad job at it.

I'm not trying to promote mario, but it is idiotic to try to defend sonic as a better franchise. Mario games (not including spinoffs, altough some of them have sold rather well)have been a lot more successful in the last 10 years than Sonic games. Mario Galaxy for instance was a hit, while all the latest Sonic games have been a disappointment even to the biggest Sonic fans.
I have nothing against Sonic, I think the first games were genius, but recently they just haven't managed to get it right.

The original Sonic animated show (the first Sonic show ever) is still going strong, very popular in Japan and aired every morning on WB on it's tenth season. As far as Sonic comics go, there were Sonic comics long before Mario comics and the good thing is that they've had much support from DC. SOnic has had a strong comic life, Mario has not. Sonic is still the more sucessful franchise and it will always be, even if they stopped making Sonic games :p

Well, everyone knows that's not true, Most people in japan don't collect Sonic things because they are fans they just do so because they feel like it. As for "most recent sonic games being rather disappointing", it still holds true. A friend of mine is a huge sonic fan and also holds this position. I suppose that ds game you mention was not a disappointment, but Sonic 2006 for Xbox was horrible, Sonic and the Secret Rings was mediocre, and Sonic Unleashed is just barely good, given that most people absolutely hate the Hedgehog parts of it.
They key to this statement is "most", which means not all of them are, but most of them.

Sorry for you to get caught up in this. I'm not even trying to pass Super Mario as a better franchise than Sonic. I like them both. This started with me countering slashnpraise argument that Mario RPG's suck, and she started turning it into which franchise is more successful, which just happens to be Mario given actual sales figures. The key to this argument being that "successful" does not equal "better". "Better" is personal preference.

As for my claims, that mario has sold more, you can look on google for "best selling videogames ever" and the first result should be a wikipedia article with a list of best selling games per console, with an estimate of units sold.

This is hilarious given I have visited vgchartz. c o m, under games, selected the s(where both sonic and super mario games are located, conveniently) and sorted the games by sales, which landed Super Mario Bros for NES on first place with 40.24m sales, and Sonic The Hedgehog 2 being the best selling sonic game on 16th place with 6m sales.

i actually just got this game for Christmas along wth a DS Lite but i just wanted to say i've never got into an RPG before. i disliked them but i love the Sonic universe so i decided to give this one a try and i love it! if it wasn't for this game coming out i probably would never given the rpg genra a chance. i played Star Wars KOTOR, Final Fantasy, Gundamn RPG, Dissegea and manyothers but never got into them, never saw a reason to. I really like this game and it's from Bioware more than Sega!

there has never been, nor will there ever be, a mario rpg that comes close to this.there has been different mario rpgs released by Nintendo throughout the last 10 years... all of them have sucked. For an RPG game, SOnic has a better flow with better characters and better stories, with mario it's all the same... there are no twists.

I did own this games. They of course do not compare in terms of RPG gameplay to other classic RPG's like Final Fantasy or Chrono Trigger, but they are fantastic games on their own. Judging by reviews and what I've read from Sonic Chronicles, it's also rather crappy for an rpg, so I don't really understand how you can judge the mario rpg's for something that this game also lacks.

Point is, you claim that Sonic Chronicles is a much better RPG than any Mario RPG, but that's a rather dumb thing to claim given that this game, like the Mario RPG's, was not aimed at hardcore RPG players, thus lacks the same things as the Mario RPG's lack. You claim the story is better, however from what I've read of it, the story of Sonic Chronicles is not deep, and is as predictable as Mario RPG's stories.
I do not claim Mario RPG's to be better, but they certainly aren't worse than this.

As Sonic's games continue to sell more in Japan and America than any Mario game, Sonic is also known for obtaining a vast collection of successful animated tv shows, ongoing line of comics and evergrowing library of collectibles. This is something Mario never had. if they did, i'd like a link ;p because i can back up all my info!

From what I've found out, Mario games have sold more over the history than Sonic games. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for instance sold 6 Million copies, while Super Mario World sold 20 Million copies. That being a rough estimate of course. SMG has sold 6.1 million copies, and that hasn't been rivaled by any of the current gen sonic games.
Mario did have an animated series, and it also has merchandise available for it. It also had a comic featured on the Nintendo Power Magazine some time ago.

It did last for more than 2 weeks. In my opinion it was a sucky show, but I hold the same opinion for the Sonic animated show. Both are average-quality animated shows. Sonic had more success as an animated series, but that alone does not make the franchise any more successful, it just means whatever team put the mario animated series together did a bad job at it.
The comic featured on Nintendo Power, of which I've read some parts, was good. The mention was because you said there was none.

I think you misread something. The Sega Genesis, the console itself, sold 30 million units. But the best selling Sonic game on it, Sonic 2, sold 6 million copies.

I'm not trying to promote mario, but it is idiotic to try to defend sonic as a better franchise. Mario games (not including spinoffs, altough some of them have sold rather well)have been a lot more successful in the last 10 years than Sonic games. Mario Galaxy for instance was a hit, while all the latest Sonic games have been a disappointment even to the biggest Sonic fans.
I have nothing against Sonic, I think the first games were genius, but recently they just haven't managed to get it right.

The original Sonic animated show (the first Sonic show ever) is still going strong, very popular in Japan and aired every morning on WB on it's tenth season. As far as Sonic comics go, there were Sonic comics long before Mario comics and the good thing is that they've had much support from DC. SOnic has had a strong comic life, Mario has not. Sonic is still the more sucessful franchise and it will always be, even if they stopped making Sonic games :p

Well, everyone knows that's not true, Most people in japan don't collect Sonic things because they are fans they just do so because they feel like it. It's just like how you can find a guitar in every 4:1 american homes. You don't have to know anything about a guitar or play it to own one.
