  • if you could please email me sometime, brandonphilyaw@gmail.com id like to get some more info about planting from u

  • hey you should try a worm tower...as big as your garden is you would need 2...but MAN the difference it makes

  • I have 2 old bath tubs that I keep my worms in. I use the castings mostly for worm cast tea. Good stuff......... Donald

  • @webcajun have you ever seen the towers? i love em cause you dont have to do anything other than throw your scraps in the towers and the worms do the rest. no work really. plus its a nice spot to get rid of the veggies that didnt come out so good

  • I've seen em but never used them. We've always had our bins on the ground or in a large container. One of my jobs as a small boy was taking care of the worms which my father sold for fish bait........ Donald

  • just wondering is this your actual garden or do you sell your produce?

    Thanks

    Matt

  • Hey Matt .... It's both. I sell a little to help pay some of the expenses of growing such a large garden......... Donald

  • wow thanks for the reply love your vids

    happy growing

    Matt

  • You too buddy....... Donald

  • cool i just harvested my first peas and strawberry today.

  • Cooked some fresh peas last night and boy were they good. Makes it all worth while......... Donald

  • Hello from London Ontario Canada! I got hooked on your videos a few weeks ago, they are terrific. Any new field trips coming up soon? And one more thing, you had a video last year on planting canteloupe but i don't think you had a video showing the end result, would you be able to make a one on harvesting- maybe a bunch of different things at the end of growing season but especially melons? It would be cool to see more videos highlighting the fruits of your labour. Thanks :)

  • Check out the "Video Halloween - A look back at 2008" on the web site. I'll have a June field trip coming up soon. Glad you enjoy the videos ...... Donald

  • I am totally loving the rightside up-upside down cucumbers. That is looking great. I can totally adapt the usage to my self watering container Earthbox garden!

  • It is working great. Picking more cucumbers than I can use....... Donald

  • What do you say in the begining? It sounds awsome!

  • "How yall doing my friends" in Cajun French........ Donald

  • Five Stars!!

  • By far the best gardening videos on the net. I do miss that south LA dirt! Since retiring to north AR, my main crop rocks, and a few ticks and copperheads also. Keep up the great work!

    Mark in Ark

  • Hey Mark... AR is some nice country, use to visit there often on some mini vacations. The only rocks we have around here are in the driveway. LOL Glad you enjoy the videos....... Donald

  • Damn, Cajun going main stream now. Were gonna lose him to the networks you watch! GO CAJUN!

  • Yeah, then I could maybe hire some help. LOL ......... Donald

  • when did you plant the sweet corn?

  • March 1st and a second patch April 9th....... Donald

  • you should get your own TV show

  • Then it would become a job. Having too much fun for that. LOL ...... Donald

  • Nice vegetable garden

  • Thanks ....... Donald

  • another great vid, merci

  • You're welcome...... Donald

  • Hi Donald,

Can you help those of us who don't know how to keep insect pests off of our plants (tomato, cantelope, bell pepper, etc) on what works for you? What do you use, how often do you apply it etc.? I think that would make a great video.

  • Well my arsenal for insect control is kind of small, the homemade bug spray and Sevin Dust pretty much covers it. That is a good suggestion and I will keep it in mind...... Donald

  • How are you keeping the deer and rabbits out?

  • Deer and rabbit aren't a problem here, coons are. An electric fence is probably the most effective. This year I'm trying moth balls and a radio to keep them out....... Donald

  • Lovely video :) You're cukes grew fast! When did you start your seeds?

  • If I'm not mistaken it took about 8 weeks before I picked my first cucumber. Those were "Sweet Success". I started some "Straight Eights" Thursday the 28th of May. Will try them the same way....... Donald

  • The rows in between your purple hull peas - is there a reason you leave this row open or just havent decided what to plant there?

  • The skip is for weed control and to get the "Unit" -golf cart through there. Will make it much easier at picking time....... Donald

  • Donald you're getting great at video making! Awesome job once again! You're becoming very famous!

  • Don't know about the becoming famous part but I have been playing around with the buttons on the camera again....... Donald

  • Amazing Donald,

We don't even see last frost till around may 1st where I live, and I'm way behind!

  • I'm way behind too on some stuff....... Donald

  • Donald I love your website and the forum. Lots and lots of info from all around. I really like the calendar. It's so nice to find the dates you planted and then see the video results too. I'm new to growing my own transplantsand trying to gage the windows of opportunities. I have about 1-2 weeks later on our zone 7b from you. COOL!

  • Just updated the calendar for the fall garden planting dates for Zone 8. Now you'll be planting ahead of me....... Donald

  • You know how to keep your fellow gardeners happy :-)

  • Thanks for showing the results of the worm castings. Now I appreciate the worms in my yards. Sorry about the potatoes.

  • Started my own worm bed about a month ago....... Donald

  • Thanks

  • Donald, just wanted to let you know that I always enjoy your videos and they seem bring peace and give me hope that I too can grow food for my family. Please keep up the good work and helping your fellow man to learn the skills of gardening that have been around since the garden of eden. - Chris

  • The big secret is "keeping it simple". Thanks....... Donald

  • Around here we have coons that destroyed my corn last year....... Donald

  • I was wonderin' hows those kids maters are doing?

  • They are about 4 1/2 ft. tall and putting on little tomatoes. Will be doing an update soon...... Donald

  • Donald, impressed as ever. You are the go to man for the garden.. Your corn is great, my lopes and peppers look better though.. LOL

  • I'm running late with quite a bit of stuff this year. Spring time weather just didn't want to act right. LOL ........ Donald

  • I'm impressed with that corn & those cukes. We are drowning in GA & I was ashamed of my garden being so late, but I see I'm not alone. It was all I could do to get it plowed finally. Anyway, I hate to complain about rain.... I love the worm casting experiment! Most impressive!

  • Lots of planting was done when I could not when I wanted to. Grass has really been a problem this year.

Got my worms in and started my worm bed. Gota love those castings....... Donald

  • wow man look like trees

  • That is some healthy corn. Hope the coons stay out of it this year....... Donald

  • i liked how u did the beggining and all my plants are comming up

  • Glad to here your seeds are up. Getting lots of rain down here........ Donald

  • ya we had alot of rain for awhile but now it's hot i dont even have row gardens i actually planted them in wut's supposed to be a flower bed but right now it is vegitables.

  • Always excited to see a new video from you Donald! Thanks for the field trip...it always inspires me to do more.

  • How's those babies doing?....... Donald

  • Thanks for the tour Donald! I see all is in good order in the garden.

    Take Care,

    John

  • Thanks John ....... Donald

  • Good Looking Garden! :)

  • If it doesn't dry up soon it won't look good for too much longer...... Donald

  • Webcajun - Now with superduper intro!

  • Been playing around with the program again. I need some good non-copyrighted music for the intro and ending....... Donald

  • I SO enjoy your field trips to your garden. I wish my garden looked 1/2 as good as yours :-) I put everything back into my garden after saving it from 3 1/2 weeks of straight rain! As I planted (again) I just said, "Grow if you want to" lol I've been wanting to start a worm bed for the castings but can't really figure it all out??? You definatley have a green thumb, finger, hand, arm ect...LOL Great Video!!!

  • Next video is about how I started my worm bed. Should be up in about a week and a half. EZ to do....... Donald

  • i wish my corn and other stuff was that tall. here in ragly, weve been having daily rains. so instead of my okra and corn being really tall and my water melons shooting out vines all over, everything is really small. hopefully we will have a sunny day today and the stuff will grow

  • I pulled between 70-80 lbs. of onions today and if I get too much more rain I'll have to compost the rest. Looks to be at least 800 lbs. left in the garden....... Donald

  • holy cow batman , look how tall that corn is !!!!!!!!!!

i detassled corn as a kid , and i never saw corn that tall in indiana , the rains killing the farmers up here, there gonna have to grow rice if this keeps up

  • It's bad down here too. Lots of folks having trouble with all the water........ Donlad

  • I had to rewind and watch the corn portion three times. Holy freakin cow!!! That corn is literally twice as high as any from this area! Definitely an advantage of your superior growing season and I suspect a credit to your skill (shameless sucking up). LOL

Sorry about your taters, but wow, congrats on your successes. Looks fantastic!

  • I fertilized both last fall and again in the spring right before planting. I think that makes a big difference with the corn.

Setting up to make my first batch of compost tea thanks to you...... Donald

  • I really enjoy your videos and your sense of humor. I have planted varios seeds indoors and soon Ill try to have my own little garden.

  • Watched you video yesterday. Good job...... Donald

  • From a country boy, now living in the city. I love watching these. I have no room. These tide me over to I can get a place of my own. Thank mate. From Australia.

  • Glad you like em. Don't wait too long to move back to the country, you're missing out on a lot of good stuff....... Donald

  • those worms castings are GOLD!! my taters flooded as well but they flooded before they even came up. youre videos are the best on You Tube for sure i need to get some vids up of my garden i'm real good at growing grass lol that corn must have loved the rain

  • I'm sold on the worm castings. In fact the next video will be about starting a worm bed.

That corn loved the fertilizer I put last fall and again this spring. The rain really help a lot too....... Donald

  • ca va bien ,,, chere. et tu?

hello sir, garden is looking good, that's some big ole corn...LOL

most all mine drown, had to start over, i'm on my third seed set in some of them.... still tiny

  • You're not alone....... Donald

  • Lots of rain here to!! Great video. Thanks.

  • Lots of folks hurting with all this rain. Will have some late gardens this year...... Donald

  • Looks like everything's mostly coming along fine. Shame about the potatoes. I think a large part of the country is getting plenty of rain. Here in N.C. we've certainly had tons of it. It rained 2" last night and my beans were all but underwater today. I had them mounded up just a bit and the valley's to either side of them had several inches of water all day long.

  • You're right about all the rain. Lots of people on the forum have replanted and still getting lots of rain....... Donald

  • try some sawdust next time
