More programs on the reservations could work wonders for all involved. There can't just be one solution to this problem because there isnt just one problem one the reservation and there is also more than one obstacle to over come. An Estimated 10,000 people live on the reservations in South Dakota. Anyone can clearly see that these numbers are small. If we can't help them now then in another twenty years these people will be almost extinct. Extinct
If the government actually cared one bit about this humble people they would collaborate with them to get some sort of initiative to create jobs. I believe in renewable energy and can clearly see from this video that there is a lot if empty space that could be used for wind farms and solar fields. Pine Ridge could than easily sell the power to the surrounding areas including Rapid City. Bring a school that specifically teaches these Native peoples the skills and educates them to do the job.

It would be nice if the wealthy Indian tribes came up with a way to help this tribe. This tribe needs assistance. The kids need goals, hope and maybe they need to feel that they could leave the reservation to chase their dreams. The isolation and idleness may not be good for the kids.
Living in Rapid City SD (not far from Pine Ridge) and seeing how those in the city view natives it's no wonder why they do this. Most non-natives simply dont care. The time of cowboys and indians simply had not die but instead grew into racial hatered. Most people I know will say openly they have no prob with the natives, but secretly call them lazy and drunks. Then point to the rez. Most ppl outside of the rez simply want them to intergrate or die. which only makes things worse.

However, the natives need to make a decision---go back to basics with their culture and live it proudly OR get off the reservation and integrate into the mainstream.
