@TheInformativeBAG Even JOE MONTANA, who the MOOSE recalls having played at DOMER LAND, said RUDY was fiction. Montana could not even recall who he was.
I reckon hard work is only admirable if it's done for yourself. If you have to tell everyone else about it, then it's done for other people - it's done for your ego. A lot of popular comments on here are egotistical. Achievements don't mean shit if you tell everyone about it.
@plbernstein92 I was referring to people's comments, saying all of the wonderful things they've apparently done. I'm not taking away anything from the movie.
So Sad I was told my freshmen year I would never succeed because being 6 foot 120 pounds playing for one of the biggest high schools and best basketball programs in ohio i would not play so I was cut. My 10th grade year I made the team and lead the state in points per game and rebounds same with Junior year I tore my Acl. I was told to not play sports again but hell no I worked hard and let my team to the State title an just finished my last year of Division 1 basketball and will declare 4 draft
That's what the hockey players in the Vancouver Canucks' dressing room were chanting and calling defenseman Lee Sweatt because of his size. RUDY!! RUDY!! RUDY!! The Vancouver Canucks saw this movie. And guess what? Lee Sweatt (5'7 tall) scored his first goal in his first NHL game on January 25, 2011 against the Nashville Predators. Looks like this movie was an inspiration for him and to anybody who would like to get over the negative thought of being too small to play the game. Any game.
Let me get this straight. This guy was a bodyguard to Frodo, he was fighting for his life everyday, the fate of middle earth was in his hands, he fought thousands of creatures and he marched through Mordor to destroy the most powerful thing in the world. And he's crying and getting upset over a bloody football game? He needs to sort out his priorities.
when i was 11 years old i remember i was about 4'7 70 lbs. I played barely enough to get grass on my pants. We made it to the championship game. The coach puts me in at defensive back. they ran an option play to opposite side of the field chased the man down ran about 50 yards in 6 seconds fought through 4 blockers and saved a touchdown. We eventually went into overtime but lost on 1 yard line 4th down. That was my last time playing regulated football.
Black groundskeeper has the best lines in this movie --- "You're five feet nothin.....a hundred and nothing......and you got hardly a speck of athletic ability"

I despise this scene. Why does every sports movie have to have the "cool, wise, washed up" black guy that helps the protagonist see the light. So cliche, just like the rest of this movie.
@WohnerontheRadio Its like the movie Avatar. Where the natives cant quite get rid of the bad guys. But then a white guy joins ranks and he just so happens to be able to ride that fucking death bird and he leads them to victory. In reality he would have infected their blankets with small pox.
i feel like rudy. I've improved 12 seconds in the 400 meter dash in one year. I got cut my sophomore year and now im going to run track in college. this is so cool!!! i love this movie.
@Trackrunnerful i feel the same way bro. My senior year i did high jump in track and was cut from the indoor high jump team. But after watching this i motivated myself to be the best and made the outdoor track team. i gain 10 inches in 2 months and became the number 1 high jumper in my league, and a top contender in my state. I'm now gonna do high jump in a div 1 college. Just like the janitor said," in this lifetime you don't have to prove something to nobody but yourself.and that what i did.
@1000dollarHotdog that's awesome. I'm still a junior though. It was one of the most satisfying experiences to watch this video after such a tremendous improvement. Next year, I hope to follow in your footsteps and run at state :D
I read somewhere the the janitor WAS real (IIRC). I think it was from Rudy's book. Anyways, it's a great scene - when the character is at his lowest point, somebody comes and rescues him. We all need to help each other.
Rudy used the Hidden Secret in Think and Grow Rich by really nailing step 1 and 2. The rest came naturally IMHO.
I always wondered too if the janitor was real or just put in for dramatic effect. Good to know it was real!
@genpatton75 The Hidden Secret in Think and Grow Rich is a great book! It helped frame and see how everybody achieves their respective goals. I can see how Rudy used it. He had great PPAs that were greatly influenced and some SPAs too and the janitor as his sort of mastermind as well. Cool to see Rudy using the natural process of goal achievement.
I wonder if the janitor was real (or if it was just put in for the movie).
Either way, it's amazing how just ONE person's words can change our lives forever.
The janitor for me was my oldest brother. He gave me the courage to quit the job I hated and to start my own business. Best decision I made and I never looked back ever since.
If you love motivational stuff like this, I highly recommend reading Brian Kim's The Hidden Secret in Think and Grow Rich. It really helped change my life.
This part hit home. My freshman year I lead my state in sacks but had to move schools my sophmore year. The coach at my new school would not start me because I was too small no matter how hard I worked or proved myself. I made a player cry in practice that plays WR in the NFL today. He remebers me till this day. This coach killed my dreams and I eventually quit playing football and started getting in trouble. And not a day goes by when I dont regret letting that coach get the best of me.
@numberjuanchicano Teams have try outs as well but you have to bust your balls to get on it if you say you are as good as you are then shoot for it dont come on here and bitch about it.
@numberjuanchicano wow. great story. i was very athletic as a teen. i quit everything. i recently rode my bicycle 3600miles alone across aussie. i thought of this movie when times got tuff
@numberjuanchicano Won't ask who - none of my business but pretty amazing and sad story. I coach youth football and really try to keep their spirits up, learning to be part of the team effort, no braggarts, bullies or show offs. Win or lose I want them confident and looking forward to the next level really feeling they can succeed. Can't imagine a man calling himself coach and allowing what happened to you to occur.
I strongly suggest you coach and make a difference in somebody's life!
I remember failing the LAPD test 3 times. I was told that I was going to be nobody in life. There was a professor from college that believe in my dream. I went back took the test passed and know I'm a Police Officer for the LAPD. My dream came true. But it takes hard word to accomplish what you want in life. Just GO FOR IT!

True, because in baseball its often not the big things that are said to someonet hat affects one's actions, but the little things, said in the dugout, on the mound, from player to player, that can make all the difference.
I wonder what this Fortune guy would say to somebody who can't find a prom date.
