  • Aw, Alan Clarke....

  • I agree with most of the comments, there is nothing now compared to the hollies, beatles, all the british invasion bands and the american bands on the scene, I am a dinosaur when it comes to music, I can't stand any of this modern electronic no talent crap these so called "artists" have now. Thank God for rock and roll, and I see from everyone else it will live on................!!

  • The great Graham Nash...

  • THE NEW WORLD,OUR WORLD,FRESH,small faces"itchychoo park"beatles "paperback writter",airplane"white rabbit",early psychedelic exploration, dreamers would end all wars, everybody love another, races together,it was a sweet dream, this song above most expresses to me,even today, that hallucinatory beauty of a new non violent, peacefull, world of love and mind, soul, spiritual exploration, boy were were maybe wrong, but it's still better than the world of ""now""

  • Well, Here's another 'Oldie', (Me !), chiming in. I just turned 59 & consider myself EXTREMELY fortunate to have started listening to Rock at the age of 4! Yep, Elvis did it. Then the British Invasion hit & we were awash in GREAT Rock. (I promised myself as I grew older I would NOT close myself off to new Rock.) There has been A LOT of good newer Rock but NOTHING like the Music the 'Invasion' began. e.g. Yardbirds to Aerosmith. THIS song is simply one of THE BEST, ever !

  • I would love to take a time machine to England in the mid 60s. Just for a week or two to hit some shows and clubs. Bet it was amazing.

  • I'm 64 ,& I was brought up in the period of this music, which I love ,however, the music today is just as good , you people who criticise it are generalising, there was, & is, rubbish in both eras, but what appeals to one listener, dosn't necessarily do anything for another.. That's humanity !!

  • I was born in 1979 so ive seen different music come and go, through the 80's, 90's and 2000's.By far and away though my favourite music era is the 60's..I cant stand all this ''der chicka der' shite that gets played on the radio these days.. songs from the 60's had a meaning, they told a story. Nowadays you get the likes of Lady GaGa and others who come up with one chorus and then sing it over and over again for a full 4 minutes. The only 'recent' ish band I currently like is ( or was ) Oasis.

  • Perfect pop song.

  • 2:19 of Pop perfection.

  • wow, I THINK there were classic music tunes from the 1960's and 1970's,that were really great, and the really talented ARTISTS, THAT CREATED IT,AND SANG IT,that was actually great music ,back then, and now, that classic rock, is still really great music by any standards today. there music was created,to listen to should not be put under a microscope, because those oldies ,tunes, really it was created for those who love ! music, and i think to listen to and be enjoyed.

  • I'm in love with Graham Nash! What a talent and so adorable! :) This music is before my time, but I think it impacts the soul on what it was like back then. I wasn't there in body (1960's), but was in spirit. Definitely the Renaissance of rock n' roll and music in general.

  • 3 thumbs down? must be rap crappers or mexicans.

  • One of the best bands ever, thankyou for posting this video, love it!

  • wHAT'S SO WRONG WITH ROCK SONGS TALKING ABOUT SEX? Rock n'Roll itself MEANS sex.

  • Great tune. The drummer really kick's ass!

  • Great live recording...sounds like studio....I love them

  • Enjoy seeing a very young Graham Nash in this video! Great Song!

  • Another classic and Gem from The Hollies!!

  • Great song!! It's one of the greatest bands of all time!! (And one of the most underated bands). Is the guy at the right next to Allan, Graham Nash?? Greetings from Mexico. Sorry my bad english

  • Bobby Elliott's drumming here just knocks me out. What a great band, gorgeous harmonies. It sure was about time they got into the R&R Hall of Fame - brilliant intro by Little Steven. Congrats, lads

  • 3 people are stuck in the dark, still looking for a window.... any window!

  • The internet makes communicating feelings through words so diffucult sometimes... s

  • Love it! How many other bands knew what a "key change" was, let alone did one.

  • @rustysnoot Don't kid yourself. Groups in the 60's weren't morons when it came to music.

  • Bruce Springsteen drummer Max Weinberg picked this song as one of the best drumming performances of the 60s, with everything in the song melding together perfectly.

  • my favorite hollies song

  • Loved Alan Clarke's lead vocals. Voice is clear as a bell and pitch perfect.

  • For all you younger folks out there... notice the guitarist on the left! That's Graham Nash from Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young and after that, Crosby , Stills and Nash. Young is, of course, Neil Young. Just a quick Rock and Roll history lesson.

  • Great melodies, better singers than the beatles

  • To The Athena Drummer~~So true, because when it comes right down to it; when it's good, it's Good!

  • Why do kids keep saying how old they are? Do they want respect or something? Just because you like this music doesn't make you any more mature. They think there something special because they have turned there backs to music today.. but I guess there just kids and want acceptance or some crap.. but nobody cares how old you are, they just want to listen to some good music.

  • Tony Hicks is the shit man! Totally lovin' his vocals.

  • Classic song!

  • what is this with all these people on stage and multiple mikes weird sounds good though

  • Ooowee, just look at Allan sweat sso...tantalizingly.

  • @Pumarisi124 I KNOW!!! Watching him so young and cute makes me sweat too...well at least, glow.. lol!!

  • Look close, Graham Nash on the left!

  • wheres all the chicks

  • @stuartk That's what I was just thinking..lol

  • just love this so much

  • awesome!

  • Luv the old black and white footage: thanks so much ! Luv The Hollies. Their music makes me smile...

  • A great group,great harmony ,much underated.

  • wawrzynski dozynki, NOWOSIELCE JAMBOREE, sanok, poland

  • Lately I have been driving my Toyota Tacoma truck to get good gas mileage, accelerating slowly, 60MPH on the highway. Nothing crazy or dangerous, but avoiding hot footing the pedal as much as practicable. I do get significantly better mileage. Anyway to the point, I thought of this song today as I was driving, watching all the people in a hurry going by me. There really is a message in the lyrics.

  • TONY HICKS PLAYING LEAD ON THE 12 STRING VOX REALLY MADE THIS SONG STAND OUT. THE MELODIC RIFF - ALAN CLARK ON LEAD VOCALS - ONE OF THE BEST BANDS OF ALL TIME. WONDER WHY GRAHAM NASH LEFT?

  • Damn! Bobby Elliott is SOLID :)

  • the hollies another great harmony based group, when music had melody. the everly brothers, beatles, beach boys, searchers, mamas and papas, byrds, peter paul and mary, crosby, stills, nash, and young, the hollies, all knew the power of harmonies. something missing in todays flat monotone nothingness.

  • Hell yeah!

  • Written by Graham Gouldman!

  • i just think bobby elliot is one of the best drummers , and i love his style of playing , such a pity he is in the background ,usually only see fleeting glimpses of him . however this is one of the all time best groups ,just love their sound

  • I just love classic rock because it is the only type of genre of music that accualy makes sense. The bands back then put more effort into their work when it came to music. I am 14 and I love this type of music better than the stupid crap that's out today. I can't stand it when people at school sing garbage like Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber. It pisses me off. I hope this kind of music comes back and wipes out all those stupid untalented rapers.

  • @TheAthenaDrummer Kid, with a head on your shoulders like you have... the sky's the limit for you!

  • @TheAthenaDrummer you are so right,en you are just 14. Music from today is garbage.

I am 60 years old and i still like the music from de sixties en seventies. I,m afraid that kind of music

wil never comes back. I was a teenager in the sixties.that was a fantastic time for young kids.

the times are a changing sang bob dylan in 1965.he was right! times, and music has changed. But you

have a great taste of music!! my compliments!!

  • You're spot on!

  • @TheAthenaDrummer

Well, some rapers are better than others.

  • @beowulven

Thats like saying some dog crap is better than others.

  • @TheAthenaDrummer lol this is top rated?

  • @TheAthenaDrummer you are so right the music of the 60s was the best the songs had meaning & actually told a story don't let your so called peers influence your taste in music

  • @TheAthenaDrummer good for you mate i love this music too,im 53 and the music connects people the world over and thats a beautiful thing!

  • @TheAthenaDrummer It is great when I see young people appreciating music like this.

We may be old farts now but we had and made the best pop/rock music.

  • @TheAthenaDrummer You are incredibly smart and wise beyond your years, AthenaDrummer. From a guy (and ex-garage band member who played this stuff in the 60's). Keep on keepin' on!

  • Graham repeatedly tries to get the camera to pan to Tony, but they seem to be fixated on him and on Allen. Not sure why

  • @rsisler1959 I don't understand it either -- Tony is so adorable, and he supplies those remarkable chords!!!

I guess the cameraman didn't understand music. :-(

  • @rsisler1959 your so right, Tony is the guitar guy of this group, even you don't see it much Allen played(s) the lead guitar very well also.......just not caught on tape often....Peace...

  • @rsisler1959 You're absolutely right! as Tony is singing his part in the song, "you can see the little children

all around" the camera zooms in on Graham and he points over to Tony, And not to take anything away from

the other guys here but I think Tony's guitar work on this tune takes it to a whole different level. One of my all time favorites from that era.

  • bus stop is probably my favorite hollies song.

  • First 45 I ever bought.

  • fantastic- can any body tell me where the venue was ?

  • Went to see 10cc last night, didn`t realise Graham Gouldman wrote this and `bus stop`!

  • ?? .. but what happened with this shoot ? .. no girls in the audience ! hmmm

looks more like a crowd you'd see at a town square protest in the middle east fer christsakes

  • I'm 46 and I wish I was cognizant of this historic period of music. I was only 2 or 3 when this song came out. I was 10 years too late to experience the wonderment of what was the 1960's. An era of change reflected in music. We need more 60s style revolution.

  • @Soxogram A lot of the more educated young people are well aware of Sixties' artists. My daughter shares a house at university with friends and their favourite artists are individually The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Kinks and Scott Walker (my daughter's favourite). Also, if you follow arrtists that are on the indie circuit (as opposed to the over- hyped chart artists) you will find Sixties influences all around, as well as other influences right up to the Nineties!

  • @Soxogram I can say it was "bloody marvellous" i would go through it again if i could !!!!!

    Elaine:) ♫❤♫❤♫❤♫❤♫❤♫

  • I 'm 57 and this really takes me back to happy days ! Love the three part harmony and the lead guitar. Truly one of the best of it's time and still now.

  • 1st song I ever heard by The Hollies, souds as good or better than it did 44 yrs. ago

  • As soon as I hear those minor parts I know Graham Gouldman wrote this. One of the few songwriters who has an instantly recognisable style even when someone else is doing the song.

  • @PutItAway101 Wasn't he in 10cc?

  • @vteur Graham Gouldman was in 10cc, though not at the beginning. But he wrote a lot of their hits, as well as Hollies' ones. He was on BBC4 recently as part of a Songwriters Circle programme featuring a recorded acoustic show in London. Worth catching on Iplayer!

  • @manygate10 Graham Gouldman was a founder member!

  • @kjclarke56 Thanks for the correction, which I had learned since making the comment! It's interesting since I remember Godley and Creme and Eric Stewart from the 1970's line up, so Goulden must have been more in the background. I only really came across him recently through watching the BBC Singer Songwriter programme, in which Graham shone with his performance of his Hollies songs.

  • Rao665: Today I would be considered "counter culture". But, believe me, I get no respect!

  • classic footage of a great tune. very good vocal harmonies too. i believe the guitar a few folks requested identification of is a vox phantom.... i owned the pawn shop version when i was a teen.

  • @5four Thank you for information for guitar brand and model. I have not known of a Vox guitar so now I can shop. Thank you once more.

  • @5four Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones also had a Vox guitar. It was the distinctive white one which he played during 1964 and 1965, and was called the Vox Teardrop. He bought it in America when his own guitar disappeared from luggage when they arrived in the USA. It had a wonderful sound, and for my taste all the Stones' best music was played on it, with one or two exceptions. Tony Hicks also created a very distinctive (and excellent) sound with his Vox. More than coincidence, perhaps.

  • The Hollies had outstanding harmonies.

  • Is that Allan Clarke on the vocals? Replies appreciated.

  • @costellodan ......Thanks for the reply.

  • Yes, this is cool, from a cool time.

  • a song that is in support of life everyday that find the beauty in it and of life is just the day and what it we do each day-it is not talk about big idea or peasant revolt or things to degrade us-i think the writer means to look through both directions-i am also hope discover brand and model of guitar on left of stage-if it is not so exotic i hope to purchase-not the one in picture!

  • someone once asked me (about 1969) do you like the old Beatles or the new Beatles? I repplied the old. He looked at me as if I was some kind of dinosour. To him dignity, in words, or dress had become something passe. This is (to me) the epotome of narrow mindedness. What wrong with wearing suits, and singing innocent songs without references to drugs and anarchy?

  • @radicright

funny how the people who claim the "counter culture" tend to be narrow minded and pretentious in things they don't agree with.

  • @radicright lol the beatles did sing about sex and drugs in their early years..but were able to hide it pretty well...please please me, ticket to ride, day tripper, drive my car...not much innocence in these songs if you knew what they were talking about

  • @tripper85 How about "Love Me Do, I Want to Hold Your Hand, If I fell in Love With You, All my Loving, Close Your Eye's, P.S, I Love You, Michelle,You Can't Do That."( etc.) The list goes on and on.They don't hide it at all. It's obvious what they are talking about. All you have to do is listen.

  • @caveman735 what are you talking bout? I was referring to the fact that beatles sang about drugs and prostitution but no one was the wiser...ur list of songs is obvious allright...their all love songs..whats ur point?

  • @tripper85 You said the Beatles sang about "sex and drugs in their early year's... but were able to hide it pretty well." Bullshit. Their references to sex was blatent. Maybe the hid the drug inferences, but not the sex. You never mentioned prostitution till now. My point is that they openly sang about sex. Listen to their lyric's in the song's I mentioned. You can't miss it. That's what I'm talking about.

  • @caveman735 the list you wrote down are merely love songs and not necessarily bout sex..you dumb-witted dickhead...Normally i wouldnt waste time on a troublesome person like u but il try and set things straight with you if ur mature enough..The songs Iam referring to about hidden sex and drugs are like 'ticket to ride', 'day-tripper', 'Norwegian wood','please please me(this ones just a bit obvious)..ur list is a bunch of puppy love songs.....

  • @tripper85 Fuck you, you asshole retarded piece of shit. I was alive when those tune's were released, and they were very sexey for there time. You weren' even alive and don't know what the fuck you are talking about. Eat shit and crawl back into the hole you came out of, and keep your ignorant asshole bullshit to yourself. FUCK YOU!

  • @caveman735 .sigh...thats i said i dont like dealing with troublesome pests like you.. Your list of songs are teenage love songs..not about sex..Rolling stones sang about sex, and drugs alot..and it was pretty clear on their lyrics.. The beatles on the other hand, when they sang bout it..they cleverly disguised their songs.. hidden sex and drugs are like 'ticket to ride', 'day-tripper', 'Norwegian wood','please please me'...

  • @caveman735 .sigh...thats i said i dont like dealing with troublesome pests like you.. The beatles on the other hand, when they sang bout it..they cleverly disguised their songs.. hidden sex and drugs are like 'ticket to ride', 'day-tripper', 'Norwegian wood','please please me'...

  • @tripper85 Fuck you asshole. Who the fuck are you to analyze these tunes when you were't even alive when they came out, I was. Normally I would not waste my time with such an ignorant full of shit asshole such as yourself, but it bother's me when people who don't know what they are talking about put down the beatles. You even admitted Please Please Me was obivious, hippocrate. Get your fact's right before you start your comment's IDIOT ASSHOLE PUNK!

  • @tripper85 Oh yea, I was the wiser!

  • @radicright

Sir you gave me a good laught there!

  • How good are the hollies ..... love this

  • omg i wwamt taht guitar the one stage lft-what manufcture is it

  • I was always hooked on this superb Graham Gouldman song. It charted both sides of the Atlantic in the mid-60s, when The Hollies were my favourite group. Their albums are just packed with superb numbers and they were great live too, so it's good to see all the the appreciation in these pages for their skilled instrumentals and superb vocals.

  • Can't stop listening to this song.

  • Why are there zombies standing behind the band?

  • @LeoNobles sehän on tietenkin kuoro!!

  • Great stuff!!!

  • A la Beatles.....

  • LOVE IT !!!!!

  • in my opinion, the greatest song EVER written. LOVE IT!

  • 1966, not '64. The memory is the first thing to go, isn't it?

  • First heard this in '64 when I was in a downtown Alexandria, Virginia store buying a pair of granny glasses.

  • @Baumholder72 I remember granny glasses, that also was in '66 along with "desert boots" and the "surfer cross". Many kids in school got in trouble for wearing the surfer cross. To most WWII era teachers it represented the Nazi "Iron Cross". This song and other bands at the time were great, but hearing the Hollies 45 yrs later I forgot how good they really are, fantastic in every note and harmony. Unlike the tasteless hyped-up crap today.

  • Damn they were good

  • Am I going crazy or does the intro sound like a sped up 'Gimme Shelter'?

  • @suspectacles No, Gimme Shelter sounds like a slowed-down Look Thru Any Window lol This came out before the Stones song.

  • Graham Nash looks about 12 years old! :)

  • Comment removed

  • my fav song when i was a little kid. always could visualize "the ladies in their gowns" tried to tape this song with a littel reel to reel tape player held up to an AM radio. great memories

  • @westrokker I had one of those little tape recorders also. Mine was battery powered. The more complex or fast the music was, the slower it would run.

  • I'm still blown away by the vast talent pool Britain gave to the world of music.

God bless our British cousins across the pond.

    We love you.

  • I never realized that virtually everyone in this band shared vocals until seeing their videos. Great Guitar and harmonies!

  • i me masters ov there music

  • I just love the little rock & roll dance move that Allan Clarke does during the musical interlude preceding the modulation @ 1:35-6. I can't explain it but it makes me laugh hard everytime I see it. ;^P That aside; The Hollies are one of the absolute best pop bands to come out of The British Invasion. Thier vocal harmonies are stellar and inspiring; their songs are catchy and always memorable. I just love them.

  • great song one of my all time favorites. growing up in the detroit area we heard this one played every hour on radio. the electric 12 string guitar sound is such an Icon of the 60s from the beatles to the byrds. from the searchers to the hollies. all wonderful sounding tunes. on both sides of the big pond we were hard pressed to hear anything bad being issued. I would'nt trade the times of my growing up for anyother. I only wish I could have them back.

  • The sixties were the best days, we had freedom to enjoy ourselves

  • The first of three unsurpassed single, right in a row...

  • A very enjoyable tune. It moves right along. Luv the Hollies!

  • I just love that 12 string Vox intro and outro....awesome. They don't make bands like this anymore.....sad.

  • Allan Clarke, one of the best lead singers of any era. Fantastic.

  • One of the very best bands of all time.

  • Brilliant !! takes me right back to the sixties--we had a venue called the Olympia , in my home town, and luckily they had the contract to have the Hollies on a regular basis, usually when they had just had another hit !! , I,m so lucky to have been at the right age to enjoy the 60,s to the full and I did.!!!!

  • As a wee boy in Scotland back in 1964, i took lots of trains (more common form of public transport there back then) and you could see into all the windows of most everyone who lived in Scots toons! - a weird but fun experience

  • remember when a group had singers that had good voices, understood and could accomplish harmony? Singing does not meaning having the cajones to get in front of a mike.....you gotta have some talent....when did that disappear?

  • The best "affiliation" that ever featured Graham Nash! Nash and Clarke, two kindergarten chums that made it to the big times..

  • Crowded and hot but, great music.

  • ALWAYS ONE OF MY FAVORITES !!! GREAT IN EVERY WAY !!!

  • graet super group of the 60,s great harmony something the groups of today have no-idea what the hell they are doing !!!!!

  • I think they are promoting PEEPING TOM SYNDROME!!! LOL

    RIDE SALLY RIDE

  • The Hollies is the most underrated band in the world. Period!

  • If it did not know that it was of the hollies He had sworn that this song was of the beatles

  • One of the greatest records of any era!

  • @scousetteL8 DITTO!!!!!! As was most of the 60s music. It really is hard to find a song from the 60s that WASN'T good. Love this song.

  • @scousetteL8 Ditto!!!

  • @scousetteL8 also one of the greatest groups of alltime

  • brilliant group love this sound

  • loving the harmonies

  • @reacey watch indian lake by bthe cowsills for harmonies .

  • Great job!! Thanks for posting.

  • perfection.

  • Great to see so many people were picking up CKLW-I lived in Sylvania, Ohio, and never would have thought someone in Brooklyn was also hearing it-it's nice now that we can hear the song over & over again on Youtube, without wearing out a record needle-this song just "grabbed you",and made you an instant fan-congrats on the induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame-it's been a long time coming-and well deserved.

  • That was utter brilliance thanks for posting xxx

  • So long ago........I was 15 when all of this great mustc came out...God we where blesst

  • 0:42 : I think I'm in loooove......

  • the hollies had so many snappy tunes. their freekin great

  • Oh heck, I'm 8 years old again......aaaaahhhhhh bittersweet

  • Tony Hicks is the best Guitar Player from that British Era

  • Yeah, I have fond memories of my little transistor radio too. I could pick up CKLW from Battle Creek (Mich.) and remember that at night it boomed. I didn't realize that this was a Canadian station until I was in my teens!

  • We have always loved The Hollies!

  • The Hollies had the whole package.

    Great musicians AND chick magnates.

    That's a combination that's hard to beat.

  • Listen to that harmony...so underated

  • Alan busts a cool move at 1:35

  • Now I'm learnin' about musical history!

  • @saynotodarwin I`ll give you that, especially Pleasant Valley Sunday , a real feel good song.

  • Guys, Hear me out!! Neil Diamond had the Jazz Singer after 1970!! Like it or not, it was a huge hit! As for the Monkees, they had 7 top 10 hits in a year!! Yes, they are musicians and they are still performing- Not lip syncing!!

  • would that be a peeper these days?

  • nice sync-up of audio to video-well done-good quality. And Graham Gouldman was 15 yrs. old when he wrote this tune. I wish! Haha. Regards, The '62 Mathew St. Band (1 Man-Full Group Retro)

  • My favorite Hollies tune!
