  • dodge monaco is australian ?

  • @herbalpertandtheTJB - the song is "Do You Know The Way San Jose", sung by Dionne Warwick and I think that may Herb Alpert, since the style is very much like his.

  • Is that Herb Alpert playing the soundtrack?

  • this is a "C" body?

  • There's Joanie Parker..the Dodge "Girl" of the late 60's and early 70's...

  • Too bad that the FED totally eraddicated "Dodge Fever"!

  • todays dome lights have more juice than that superlight.

  • @chpman2013 Carbed.

  • is that ron jeremy?

  • @bankyedwards59 no..its gene wilder

  • @bankyedwards59

    LOL it could be!

  • If good old GM had introduced the Super Lite it would have been a great engineering break through. GM didn't contribute anywhere near the important advancements that Chrysler did.

  • That SuperLight was a terrific idea! Sylvania made it for Chrysler and it took the place of a high beam. Apparently, it was VERY popular when new, but it was banned in many States - go figure - it's like driving with the high beams on but you're not blinding anyone, and States had a PROBLEM with it! Guess there's ALWAYS been idiots running government. Meanwhile, you gotta love that Dodge Girl - that Joanie Parker was so sweet and cute - obviously the women libbers ran her outa Dodge!

  • How could it take the place of a high beam, since there are high beams on the car? Maybe they just provided even better lighting at night.

  • The beauty of this option was this: You could use the "quad" system on the lonely stretches or when there no oncoming traffic. The SuperLight, when engaged, gave the same lighting effect as the quad system but did not blind oncoming drivers or the drivers ahead of you in traffic (the highbeam reflection in the rearview mirror was eliminated). It worked liked the light on a slide projector (focused beam of intense light) - it directed itself towards the shoulder of the road at a low angle.

  • It's a nice idea, but I wonder why it didn't last. I think my favorite lighting design are cornering lights. I've never owned a car with them but driven a couple and they sure do help to light dark corners.

  • For whatever goofy reason(s), the feds banned it after the 1970 model run. It was a $75 option, which I think was a bargain for the convenience and safety you got in return. Believe it or not, when "quad" headlights appeared for the first time in the 1957 model year, many states wanted to ban them! I, too, always liked cornering lights - I think they should be a standard feature on all sporty and suv models.

  • Good information tahks - Gene

  • Very interesting thanks - Gene

  • Gotta luv the "Super Lite"! I had a '70 with the 383.

  • Nice take-off on "Do You Know The Way to San Jose".
