  • "You're afraid we're going to run out of air. That we'll die gasping. But we won't. That's not going to happen"

    *puts on sunglasses*

    "We'll feeze do death first"

    *YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!*

  • This one is a good one, but my favorite River line is "...also, I can kill you with my brain"

  • Why thank you, River.

  • 4 people froze to death first!

  • Reassurance thy name is River LOL

  • @TheTrashVictim Haha.

  • Why thank you river, I feel so reassured.

  • Nah, you'll run out of air......... Know what they put in thermos bottles? A VACUUM! That's because vacuum is a great insulator! Why do you think astronauts wear liquid-cooled underwear on space walks?

  • @TSorovanMHael I think the cooled underwear is to cool down the body heat generated inside their air-tight suits. Space is fairly close to absolute zero, it's pretty damn cold. There's a lot of nothingness out there...

  • @smexijebus Space doesn't HAVE a temperature, really. since there's (almost) nothing there. The only way an object in space can LOSE heat is by giving it off as infrared radiation. This tends to happen slowly. It's kind of myth that people will freeze in space. In fact "heat retention" tends to be a major design problem on most manned spacecraft. The life support systems, navigation, fuel cells, solar panels. They all use electricity and all give off waste heat into the air in the cabin.

  • @smexijebus Most manned spacecraft have to be equipped with heat sinks, liquid cooled air-conditioning systems, and fairly large radiator panels to deal with waste heat. This includes space suits. Also, objects in direct sunlight tend to get quite hot, around 250-300 degrees since they can't easily lose the heat they absorb from the sunlight.

  • @TSorovanMHael True, but, from the information in the episode, they are no where near any source of outside heat, and with all electrical equipment failing and the loss of air, they would begin losing heat without any source creating more, save for a single body.

  • @smexijebus

Dont forget that there is no air in space, thus no media to transport heat away from the spacecraft. Its one of the big problems with spaceships, they have huge radiators to vent all the heat.

  • @matszz Yes, but venting heat is only necessary when you're producing it. If the ship is dead in the water then it WILL lose heat quickly. On the ISS there are little heating elements attached to all the exterior walls to keep the station warm. Otherwise when the ISS goes on the night side of the planet it gets at least 300 below zero pretty quick.

  • @baillou2

I hadnt thought of that, thats cool. How did you know that?

  • @smexijebus Yea you're right, it's all pure conjecture. This is science fiction. I do like arguing on Youtube for no reason though. X-P

  • @TSorovanMHael But, or course, we have no real way of knowing which way they would die. Theoretically, you might be right. I've never studied these subjects, and have no real footing in this debate. You might, I don't know. But it would all be theory in the end, as this is a fictional space craft and we have no idea of it's inner workings and how it differs from modern day space craft.

  • "Out of Gas" was Firefly's best episode, imo. In fact, I'd say it ranks as one of the best episodes of recent television.

  • @Boomkin1337 I need you to define recent =)

  • @GeneralenSWE Everything between Firefly and Whedon's next Television project.

  • @smexijebus Fair enough =>

  • way to crush a man of god's spirit

  • Thanks River. We all feel so much better now.

    hahaha

  • Words of comfort from the telepath.JEEEEEZ.

  • so comforting :D

  • Love summer glau

  • "Out of gas" was a sensational episode

  • Out of gas was my favorite episode. It had thew funny parts and the serious parts and put them together to make such a hard hitting episode. I want a part what shows Mal and Inara's little talk in her shuttle where Mal just about looses control then regains it when he says 'we all die alone.' It's so poingant and heartbreaking at the same time because it shows just how far and how much Mal as come and lost.

  • Dang, "Out of Gas" was an *incredible* episode.

  • As much as I hate the fact that firefly got cancelled, I'm glad that at least some of the actors went on to find success, like Nathan Fillion in Castel, and Adam Baldwin in Chuck, both of which I am happy to say have not been cacelled yet, and at least adam baldwin pays homage to Jayne on Chuck with great little one liners and a big reference to this big damn heroes moment when he comes down from the ceiling while shooting up the bad guys in the Chuck season 2 finale.

  • we'll freeze to death first!!!!

    classsic

  • I haven't witnessed such owning in years. xD

  • I was once this close (puts thumb and finger half an inch apart) to wishing those dumb TV execs death for cancelling Firefly. Now I've realised that is wrong....it is, after all, just a TV show (an amazing one, but a TV show all the same). Now I wish life on them....a long, long life of knowing that they did the most *stupid* thing in the history of TV.

Idiots! How often does a gelling of creativity come together like this? From the original idea, the writing, the actors, the fans? I despair!

  • "We'll freeze to death first."

    lol

  • Hahah River is so comforting

  • Very reassuring...

  • I love river

  • Hmm...Well, I think I'd rather freeze to death...

  • His expression is epic. 0.0;;

Nah, it is kind of a comfort, because you go to sleep when you get really cold I think.

    But I <3 River *nodnod*

  • ROFL LOL River is hilariosus sometimes I just love her one of my fav characters. "We'll freeze to death first." It makes you think really, I don't think she was trying to cheer him up. =)

  • Oh, genius. Gotta love River.

  • @GalacticConflict Better love her, she can kill you with her brain.

  • I laugh everyt ime I see this scene! Love it!

  • lol oh wow so wow... what do you say to that

  • Comment removed

  • so cute...and typical of river...

  • now he feels relaxed!!! hell freeze to death instead running out of gaz.....

  • way to make him feel better lol

  • 'we'll freaze to death first' its like oh ok thanx for that

  • I wish they would have continued the series it was so amazing.

  • my favorite with the priest dude was when they went on the ship to save mal, and he pulls out a gun and i dont remember who said it but someone says "doesnt the bible say thou shalt not kill" and he shots a guy in the legs and says "it didnt say anything about kneecaps"

  • i would be afraid if that creepy girl was living with me

  • what a way to keep him cam like lol

  • "We'll freeze to death first." That line is so River. She was my favorite character on the show. I miss Firefly!!
