@Rikonidas If someone is thinking this is all, then that person doenst like to think or it's to hard. If there's a self-defense video an intelligent master won't do something too advance, he will show an easy and practical technique. I invite you to watch human weapon : Tae kwon do. That's what Tae Kwon Do is all about.
His technique is pretty good, although it looks more defensive than completely offensive as he describes. Off the front snap kick, if he would 'spring' off the kicking leg he would have more momentum for the following jab/cross, and if he threw his torso/hip behind the axe kick, if wouldn't matter if the opponent moved back. --all of which more technically offensive..
elbows too close to the body .. front snap not driving hard enough .. "axe' kick somehow an un-natural finish .. blocking arms are to be kept out from the face and body as a crescent kick will drive said arms into one's own face.
This is tournament fighting. There are no such punches as a jab/right hand combo in TKD as they are deemed not powerful enough . The last kick is quite advanced.
As easy as it seems, to do it correctly, effectively and in one fluid motion is much more difficult.
To be able to apply it in a situation is the advanced part. (Obviously not tourneys.)
Before I get flamed, I know that hammer kick and front (snap) kicks are white belt (as well as the punches, which is more like common knowledge) but that does not mean they are complete "noob" kicks. They are very effective in numerous sitations.
I like ITF more than WTF though, I studied Taekwondo in the Philippines for about a year, I started from white belt then Yellow Belt high then blue belt, I did not pass teh yellow low belt because according to my master, My performance in the promotion test was really good, so They advanced me, I like Poomsae more than sparring though :) and I stopped my taekwondo training though but still memorized the poomsaes of the white, yellow high and blue low belts so ok :)
@TheMossad921 hes aiming for the gut/ solar plexus (ball of the foot). If he were aiming for the groin, he would point his foot and strike with the in-step, and lean slightly back.
oh and everyone in Taepark Taekdondo, congrats on your good performances at the Michigan state Olympics! special congrats to Mr. Iteen for your gold in fighting and silver in form!
never axe kick from outside in, that will put your blance toward your other leg, if this lands of someones sholder and you dont brake anything, you will fall toward your other lag, puting you on the ground.
Cool vid. I am also a black belt in tae-kwon-do. Tht last kick you did, at my school we call a crescent kick (the reverse we call an axe kick). Great job! Cool combo.
@DylanCravens1994 in my TKD school a cresent kick is sort of a cross between a turning kick and an axe kick, as in the kick comes to head level from the outside in but without a downward motion it just hits to the side of the head rather than the top
errmm i have trained both ITF,(6years) and WTF,(9years)
ITF places high priority on poomse training and destruction no matter where u go to learn it also in the uk its officially classified as a semi contact martial art. WTF is a full contact martial art that places more emphasis on sparring and self defence
MMA shit? really? You go to a tkd class for 2weeks then go to a mma/kickboxing class for two weeks,. The person who goes to the mma/kb class would have learn how to defendhis/her self better. FACT.
lol Taekwon-Do is considered one of the most dangerous martial arts (NOT THE MOST), bad for self defense? It's about your style, some people fight attacking, there self defense is that there 5 times faster then there opponents.
I myselve for example am a defensive counter fighter, Never get hit (ofcourse on occasion nobody is godlike) and get all my k.o.'s on counter attacks, even outside the ring.
if your trainer is such a badass why doesnt he or anyone else with a pure tkd background go have a successful mma career? Because that crap doesnt work in a real fight, dont you get it? Name anyone with a pure tkd background who has had success in mma, lots have tried
1: MMA is not the ultimate goal for Martial Artists. I don't even like it to begin with.
2: MMA and fighting are not the same. A Bjj fighter would do amazing on MMA but there's a big chance he'd get his ass whooped against multiple opponents on the streets. I'm sorry, but MMA is nothing when talking to me
they do not go in mma for the next reasons, the mondial champion in TKD recieves like 300.000 bucks , the second one is because the TKD trainers are devoted to the sport , and the third one is they sign a contract with the international sports confederation in which they are tied to it... and i'm sorry to tell you but tae kwon do is the best fighting sport force speed and strenght, compared to this mma is shit
(your nick says TKD, so i assume you've tried taekwnodo) It isn't as violent as others, but it sure hell works good as self defence! Maybe you're the one who should "learn something about it before talking", at least learn a bit more...
(each TKD-club have their own ways of doing things like self defence, depending on the master and the organisation. Maybe you belong to a club that's not so good at it? I don't know. But is sure sounds like it according to your comment...
@resgirl here it depends on what kind of tae kwon do you do , there are 2 types taekwon do WTF and ITF , ITF was invented in 1955 by the general Choi Hong Hi , and it is a more violent form of taekwon do than WTF , and yes i practice Taekwon do ITF ( and my nake is TDK - The Dark Knight)
@TDKSparda (sorry, sorry, sorry my bad mistake about your nick...) It's just that I've practiced WTF taekwondo for 7 years, and I know that it works just fine for self defence (and also, I didn't notice your comment above the short one. it was late at night and i was tired, so again, sorry). But trust me, taekwondo works as self defence.
@resgirl no problem :) , i didn't tryed tae kwon do wtf , so i do not really know if it is good for self-defence , on this one i must trust you :) , but in tae kwon do ITF the best defense is the best offense and reflexes , if you know what i mean
absolutely not. depends on the fighters use of the martial art in the streets. the complete use of taekwondo in the streets may not be as effective as implementing techniques learned from tkd and being put in a fight. Most street fights aren't the same as in a ring, but my knowledge in tkd has effectively ended fights early do the the defensive fighting i have learned from tkd and the hapkido which is also implemented into many tkd school's training
Actually you want your toes to be pointing upwards to kick with the opposite side of your toes (I.E. The bottom of your foot). If your toes are pointing out they would snap inward and cause you to get screwed over.
dude hes not trying to kill the guy... hes trying to push him back... then come thru lay 2 err.... well i wudnt say the best punches and then axe kick trying to break their skull in the process... i no wat u mean wen u say put ur toes down... but hes not trying to slap the opponent hes trying to push them back...
wow dude i always curl my toes up unless its a reaching ass round kick you dont hit with your toes you hit with the ball of your foot or heel every time or ur technique blows
I wouldn't take it as far as saying the kick was terible but being a 3rd degree black belt in TKD, I'd have to say he needs to work on it. What I look for is snap and flexibility in a kick. He bend his head down too much on his axe kick which would mean that he needs to work on flexibility. He'd need a little more work to be a black belt at my dojang.
I've done TKD for 10 years now, and the only time I've seen an axe kick work efficiently is when you're sparring with TKD rules, and sometimes in Kickboxing. Axe kick is a horrible idea when you can be taken to the ground. It's great for sport, horrible for self defense.
u better be fast to catch a real TKD artist's kicks and if u do TKD u kno there is alot of fake pretending to kick forms before the real one comes kind of kicks. some one who is very skilled in TKD also knows how to keep his distance just in case of clinches or takedowns. TKD's range is very long and its much much faster looking at it up front than on TV
well if he does u can either practice ur kicks and movements more to make sure he doesnt catch ur leg or find a way to get out it. U either try to pull it out or u clinch along with him than he cant really hit u. of course talking about it is easy. u should practice sparring and kind of get in idea ur self and remember its really never about the style. Its about whos fighting
Oh man, it really sucks when that happens, and it depends on the person that caught it and what fighting style they use. If they use aikido or a form of jiu jistu, you are going to be in deep trouble and get ready to try your hardest to stay on your feet. Otherwise, if possible, I would try to jump and kick him with the other leg, if that isn't possible, then you really just kinda flail around for a while until they let go. There really is no good way to get away and still look cool and unhurt
his axe kick was terrible ? explain you call your self a balck belt lol but you come on youtube and bad mouth other martial artists techniques you arent a martial artist and if you think that was a terrible kick then im sure you would hate kung fu
Not sure why DeadGame420 called the kick terrible - however from my perspective the kick was pretty weak. Almost every style teaches you to use your whole body for your kick, arch the back, shoot the hip out, and really pull the leg down. It appeared his kick was all leg there wasn't much effort in pulling the kick down.
That axe kick was more than strong enough, if that hit someone where it should, the nose or top of head; they would have a broken nose or a major headache. Not all kicks use the entire body.
No it was an axe kick, you bring it up from the side and bring it straight down, bringing it up from the side makes it harder for them to see and stop. Whereas a crescent kick is brought all the way across their face.
this combo has a high predicament ratio because its really organized if u want a combo it HAS to be a little bit random like punch, kick, chop, kick, stab but i REALLY PREFER high kick, low kick, stomach kick, a final full power kick on the legs :) and YES i love to use kicks because im not really fast with my hands but i am with my legs :P
i dont like this combo because being so close to your opponent after punching leaves them the opportunity to use their hands arms or shoulders to block the final kick.
2 other ways he could have performed the technique are as a quick high snap kick, and drop...or as a far-distance-to-close-distance axe kick, in which you lift the kick before you reach the opponent, and lean forward in order to gain the ability to connect. Saying this is an advanced combination would mean you are lacking in the physical aspect. Something advanced would be like: Roundhouse, Tornado, Backspin, Roundhouse...or Side, Back, Roundhouse etc.
Axe kick has many ways in which you can perform, 2 ways that he's "demonstrated"...but not quite because he raises his leg too far away from the opponent. His kicks...because of his flexibility, would have been weak inside/outside cresent kicks. The way he should have demonstrated was...raise leg on either side of opponent, then position it above the head, then drop...not cresent up, and b-line it down, that's just lazy.
Fake black belt...to even accept a black belt without having the necessary flexibility and control is being selfish. It also shows lack of commitment. To demonstrate and attempt to teach people techniques...without being able to perform them properly makes you look foolish. Lack of knowledge as well..."downward kick"?
none of these cartoon show and jackie chan movie kicks and punches will ever work in a real fight with a few exceptions like sweep and hook martial arts are to over exaggerated in the fighting styles used that are all useless in a real fight
martial arts isnt only about fighting, its about disapline and respect. Just a FYI for ya, Jackie Chan's moves have to be slowed down for the camera to capture effectively and a bunch of them are there to add a comedic factor anyway... fight a real blackbelt from Japan and tell me they're useless
I don't understand why he was taught to hit the gorund so hard with that last kick. He might hurt himself and the power should be gone by the time your foot hits the floor. Seems like he's trying to kick the imaginary apponent in the foot.
ive never done tweaondo or however u spell it or any martial arts for tht matter but this was so damn easy i did on first try and broke my keyboard in half lmao
How is this advanced? You taught how to do a front kick and a punch. The axe kick though...don't you learn that at brown belt? It's still one of the easiest moves out there. Beats having to do a jump spin crescent kick (have to do it at testing; it's in my one steps :O)
turning kick for the end part wud b better. inward downward kiks are risky if sum1 has a fast side kick because u open the body to make the kick outward downward kicks are safer
Respect, but when I'd had a video camera I'd post a more exciting combination than this 4 hit combo. But It's a nice video for beginners so nevermind.
Probably got his black belt within a year. Advanced my ass...

This combination is not very practical, unless the 3 moves before the axe kick are fakes. I would say: front kick, axe kick. ( Maybe even jumping)
Besides he just did that combination to generate enough power for his Axe kick...
If you look closely the 2'd time he tries it he is off balance and bounces to the side.
Great for people who don't know, but then again you'll get chewed out by those who do.

I don't understand why he was taught to hit the gorund so hard with that last kick. He might hurt himself and the power should be gone by the time your foot hits the floor. Seems like he's trying to kick the imaginary apponent in the foot.

yeah its advanced to keep your gaurd up stay balanced and not get knocked over when you miss the axe kick
jayblaze207 3 years ago
He's not doing an axe kick. There's only ap chagi and naereo chagi shown here.

The combo is a simple combo for advanced ranks. It might be easy for some of us but it is hard for someone else.

Advanced as in combination versus timing, speed, power and form.

How is this advanced? You taught how to do a front kick and a punch. The axe kick though...don't you learn that at brown belt? It's still one of the easiest moves out there. Beats having to do a jump spin crescent kick (have to do it at testing; it's in my one steps :O)

I was taught the axe kick at white belt :?

It's Expert Village... they seem to be pretty lacking in the "expert" factor.

Calm down everyone. This is a free lesson. You have to pay good money to learn the "Actual" advanced techniques.

turning kick for the end part wud b better. inward downward kiks are risky if sum1 has a fast side kick because u open the body to make the kick outward downward kicks are safer

very good point.

Respect, but when I'd had a video camera I'd post a more exciting combination than this 4 hit combo. But It's a nice video for beginners so nevermind.

he would kick my ass in sparring so i wont say anything.
imsothemanXD 4 years ago
dont you mean axe kick?
imsothemanXD 4 years ago
in literal translation its called a downward kick 내려차기 naeryeochagi, but tends to be given the nickname of axe kick..for obvious reasons.
