  • well done!! but this is one of the few songs that i can't see being beaten by any cover version

  • and.. Ever since the world begun = Dave

  • I like this version better to be honest. It has more "oomph" to it. Just my opinion

  • manny pacqiao the best!!!!!!

  • HE WONNNNNNN !.

  • GO MANNY!!!!!!!!! HAHAHAHA

  • This is Dave Bickler not Jimi Jamison... However two great voices! (... On recording studio... Because on stage...)

  • @Rastario74 The singer is Jimi Jamison on this track, not Dave Bickler.

  • @ulmerkott1 Hi! Forgive me... But this is not the album version of 1982??? Than Dave Bickler was in that time the voice of Survivor... Jimi was the Survivor voice since 1983 and his hit song is "Burning heart"... Anyway both are two great singers!!!

  • @Rastario74 This version is from 2005, the same year they recorded GLEN for the Starbucks commercial. Listen to the background music from that commercial and you'll hear that it's the same. Jimi left the group shortly after.

  • @Rastario74 If you read the information under the youtube-link it says: *Survivor*

-Eye Of The Tiger By Jimi Jamison-. I know that it was Dave Bickler who sang Eye Of The Tiger at first and he was the singer in the band Survivor and it was a big hit but this version is sang by Jimi Jamison. If you compare the Dave Bickler-version and this version you can hear it's a big difference between the voices. Forgive me if I have misunderstood what you meant.

  • @ulmerkott1 ... Oh my god! I did not know there was a version of Jimi Jamison ... On the other hand have a very similar vocal timbre that I had not noticed the difference! Thanks for the clarification dear friend! Rock on!

  • Jimi is always awesome but this is a Dave song and is version is a litlle bit better..

  • @Codex0815 Du hast recht!!!!

  • I have a Jimi Jamison Fanclub Germany on Facebook. Visit my site!

  • voice-of-the-tiger.de/

  • I have looked for a great quality Jimi Jamison rendition of this song for decades and finally found it here. Where can I get it?

  • jimi is better

  • believe it or not i swear to god this guy is related to me. i didn't find out until a few years ago by my uncle and i bet im soon gonna get comments like "bull f*kin shit ur lyin "or "ur so f*kin lyin" well f*ck u because i have proof cause my dad talked to him and he even said it so f*ck you (the people that think this is true thank you because it is

  • @darkflames911 lol I'm his daughter. Who are you?

  • dave is better

  • i love this one

  • Comment removed

  • in my late teen..........

film rocky and this song captivated me once

this stuff remind me of that time

  • This guy deserves way more recognition than he has received.

  • my dad knows him, they were friends in high school

  • i've been listening to dave bickler but this one is different. anywhere i can purchase this?

  • Noooo. Jimi is way better.

  • nooo is better dave bickler

  • I love this version of 'Eye of the tiger>

  • Haha Greg, that's pretty good. Come to think of it, I don't know if there exists a version of Dave singing that song. What people forget is that this song is listed as Survivor-Eye of the Tiger on the NHL soundtrack instead of Jimi Jamison. It's Frankie Sullivan and the band playing the instruments in this Jimi version as also evidenced in the Robin version afterwards and also the Starbucks "Glen". The poster of this video put Jimi's name instead of Survivor's to distinguish it.

  • Good point, and Dave's version is the original that sticks in people's minds although many have said they thought Jimi was the original singer all along. Jimi took the song and made it even better, kinda like Michael Jackson as a kid took Smoky Robinson's song and made it better. Jimi kicks butt on that last hi C. Dave does too but doesn't quite hold it. I'd give to have a voice like those two. To be able to sing like that throughout a whole concert in their days, now that's impressive.

  • It's very debatable as to whether or not Jimi's recording is an improvement, but I think he did a good job here.

  • I agree and not everyone likes Jimi's take, which is fine. I don't necessarily agree with Dave owning the version either, but that's what makes the Survivor fan out of all of us, our common liking for their music, and I wish the good ol' days of their music style would return. One thing is for sure, I'm glad for today's internet technology to be able to acquire versions their music and history which before was almost impossible to find, such as their Glen and Real Men of Genius commercials.

  • Lets put a spin on things: How about Dave covering Burning Heart?

  • I'm the same way, as far as thinking (at the time) that it was Jimi all along. He does kick butt on it though.

  • This sounds like demo. This is still Dave Bickler's song I don't what none y'all say...!!!

  • You can only hear minor differences in how he annunciates certain words. I would have never known.

  • I am not sure when this was recorded, but it sounds like he made a serious effort to more closely match the sound of the original recording than he does live. This will always be Dave Bickler's song to me, but Jimi doesn't butcher either. He just doesn't quite own it....

  • This was recorded in 2005 (no joke).

  • nice voice

  • I wish Jimi would sing for Survivor again.

  • i love him

  • Any of you guys like Rocky III?

  • Jimi sounds like Dave Bickler!

I thought this was Dave singing...

  • That's what I said. I don't think anyone else comes as close to sounding like Dave Bickler than this guy except MAYBE the singer for 38 Special. He was the perfect replacement for Bickler when he left the band. Made the transition almost unnoticeable unlike the new guy Robin.

  • sounds better than Dave Bickler. Anyone heard of the At Vance version of this. It kicks ass.

  • Seriously great vocalist.

  • Ma come cazzo fa?!

  • Hes a great singer is Jimi long live Jimi!!!

  • this is one of my fav. songs of all time

  • Jimi sounds great.

He said he didn't know he could hit that ending note, until the band auditioned him!

A most awesome frontman Jimi is.

    I love him!

  • where did you download this?

  • This guy I know made the video for this song but I got it off a soundtrack.

  • what soundtrack? because i really like to download this version

  • This is Jimi Jamison. I can easily tell Bickler and Jamison's voices apart. It's just a less raspy sounding Jim Jamison and this does sound really good!

  • Yes, you are correct. NO way this is Dave singing. You don't hear the nasals from Jimi.

  • Plus you can hear that the voice is more powerful.

    It's Jimi. :)

  • Greg, do you like this version of Eye of the Tiger?

  • Oh YES, I do!

  • Just to tell you, the account "Gregsynthmovies" is my director account.

  • I like Jimi's voice singing eye of the tiger. doesn't stresses much on high pitch

  • I saw him in the 80's and he DEFINITELY hit the high C FAR better than the live videos on youtube show. He always sang Eye of the Tiger at the end of the setlist. Yes, Bickler was flat in the 90's and is even worse live now. It's not just Jamison that has eroded.

  • Dave sang the Tenor C FLAWLESS on the 1993 video.

The 1994 video was when he started losing it.

Jimi still has his "smooth tone" on his voice but his range isn't as wide as his heyday.

  • It's a shame cuz his voice has so much versatility and familiarity to it as well as charisma.

  • He still has the voice.

  • It's true on the 86 Japan vid Jimi does struggle on the high C . But many people who have seen him live ! in the 80's have said he was able to hit it . Also Bickler in the 90's couldnt hit the note either . He came close but was still flat .

  • This is NOT Jimi singing -- it's Bickler. Search Survivor Eye of the Tiger 1985 Live to hear and see Jimi.

  • where can i find this song? when was recorded?

  • Jimi looks like gay porn-star Vic Hall.

  • i think Oliver hartman Makes a werry good cover of this with At Vance

  • This brings back memories. I use to always watch the Rocky films with my dad when I was little. I Dedicate this to you dad!!!!:)

  • I would have to say i think S. Perry's voice has gone down ! alot more than Jimi. He hasnt toured since 94 . And sounded very raspy . Also lowered the keys on most songs. Jimi's voice is not the same as his prime. But his voice still has that smooth tone left. Perry's

voice imo has eroded far more.

  • ps, my apologies to America. If it was recorded in 2005, then it's a real achievement. All the best.

  • Hey fitness, I was emailed by someone who found a groovy jazzy version of Eye of the Tiger by Jimi Jamison. I listened to it and it's quite different. I imagine if we look hard enough, there's many hard-to-find versions of our favorite Survivor songs and B-sides out there. Anything I find is gold, especially considering what kind of crappy music is out there today. Despite Robin's different voice, he does nail the high notes quite well live and bring positive energy, so I give him that.

  • Nice one pal! I'd like to hear that jazzy version. Also,I've got a demo cd of Dave singing from many years ago, with the first time he sang "Fire makes steel". Its a great performance. I didn't realise how old that song really was!! Cheers, mate!

  • @platanotaco

can you possibly refer as to how can i get jimi's eye of the tiger song. thanks

  • I have looked for a top quality Jimi Jamison rendition of Eye for decades! Where can I obtain a copy of this?

  • I have to admit, it's fun talking about a group we grew up loving and listening to. It kind of felt like a primary debate before the national presidential election against the opposing party. We see little details differently but are on the same time. I'm a big fan of good rock like Survivor, Journey, 38 Special, and others, and it was great to see different viewpoints and facts and opinions of one of my alltime favorite groups in Survivor. Platano, I'd love a copy of that other Jimi version.

  • Sorry folks, I meant to say we're on the same "TEAM", not time. lol.

  • Thanks for the debate, guys, it's good to hear from some REAL Survivor fans who know their stuff! Yeah, Robin seems pretty unique, he hasn't deteriorated vocally with age at all!! Yeah, he certainly handles the huge task of singing these great songs really well, but he is completely different! Take care, guys, and thanks again!

  • Hey america. I think fitness just fulfilled your point in the voices breaking down. I also saw Survivor in Chicago in their 80's heyday, and I agree that Jimi did just fine in Eye of the Tiger, much better than in the Japan concerts. I'm excited about the new album where Jimi and Dave will sing together, which will be a first. I'm looking forward to that. I'm more pumped to hear what Jim Peterik has to offer on this new project. He's such a genius. By the way, don't forget to vote my friends.

  • I will agree with fitnessgood4u that the voice does indeed deteriorate with time. Singers like Rod Stewart and Bryan Adams can't hold the notes like they used to,and even Steve Perry and Dave Bickler have been heard to not hold the high notes like before.Jimi's thing is that he sings with so much "tough guy" force that his voice eroded faster through the years. I'm surprised fitnessgood4u doesn't mention Robin McAuley's version. He's never given his opinion on Robin. Good voice but too different.

  • Now hold on here. This is where I strongly disagree. I saw him and heard him live with Survivor in L.A. in the 80s,and these 80s videos on youtube do Jimi an injustice. When I saw him, he did not pull back before the hi-C nor struggle with that note on the last chorus. He nailed them. I don't care about the wrong words nor the argument of how he sounds today live. As far as the studio version, it indeed was recorded in the studio in 2005, and I even saw the interviews on Extra. That's a fact!

  • Jimi couldn't sing it in 1987, let alone 2008!! Check out the Japan concert. (He forgot the words half way through anyway!) This version must have been done a long time ago! I've been singing along time, and I know it's a matter of time before your voice "breaks" again and you can't sing as high as you could when you were 20 years old. Fact of life, happens to EVERY singer.

  • I thought these parodies of President Bush were funny: Type in "Showing How Dumb George Bush Really Is" and "Saturday Night - Georg Bush Impersonation" in the search field.

  • As far as the live versions are concerned, I see where fitnessisgood is coming from, but that argument is flawed because Dave's versions on youtube were in the early 90's (40 yrs old, born 1953) whereas Jimi's de-tuned versions were very recent (57 yrs old, born 1951). It's natural that aging and constant high notes deteriorate the vocal cords.I've heard Dave sing it live a couple years ago, and he sang it very flat whereas in the 80's I saw Jimi sing it live better than the youtube versions reveal

  • I agree SJ716. Jimi overall has the better voice and more recognizable as what most know as Survivor. Let me say first of all, Dave Bickler has a great voice and booms it. Having said that, Dave's version has been acknowledged for almost 30 years, so there is nothing further to be acknowledged for him; on the contrary, it's Jimi's version that should be acknowledged since he and the rest of Survivor went in the studio in 2005 to record "Glen" of Starbucks and re-recorded "Tiger" too.

  • I would agree Bickler can sing it closer to the album live ! And i like Bickler on this song . But i still think Jimi has a better voice overall . Even though Dave's range is a little higher .

  • The bottom line is, can they sing it live in this key/register??? Dave-yes, Jimi-no. Plenty of live versions on here to prove this.

  • He sounds exactly like Dave Bickler. I always thought they were the same guy. I remember when I first saw Rocky IV I recognized the voice immediately as "the singer from survivor" hard to believe it was a different guy.

  • Jimi did this better than Dave Bickler...Awesome!

  • I must say though, as much as I think they both are better fit for Eye of the Tiger than Robin McAuley, Robin can sure nail it live pretty darn well.

  • America, you're too funny. I will say this. I'm so tired of the junk that you hear on the radio these days. I was watching some clips of a recent Survivor concert. As much as I don't care too much for Robin McAuley's voice on Survivor's songs, I admit he nailed the notes on the songs although they de-tuned Eye of the Tiger and Poor Man's song. It was refreshing to hear actual intelligently written tunes with some substance to the music.

  • Ok, fair point buddy. All I'll say is though, check out Jimi on the 2008 Rio performance from user "moraismacedo". That rests my case as far as I'm concerned.

  • And I disagree with you. There are many instances where a re-recording is better than the original, and this is one of them. I could care less if Dave or Jimi could still do it live. Lately, Dave struggles a lot w/ the high C too. The point here is that despite the fact that Dave's version is the original, Jimi brings awesome elements to the song that Dave never brought. I think Dave is a great singer and does a great job in "Tiger", but he sings through his nose too much. Go Jimi! Beat Dave!

  • Disagree. Tiger is Daves song. Anyway, I believe this is an old recording of Jimi,re mastered. I heard him live recently singing this, they had to change the key, cos he couldn't sing it in the original key. I'd bet a thousand Bucks Dave could still do it!!

  • Sorry, gotta disagree with you on that one. Although Dave is an awesome singer, Jimi sings this one better than Dave.

  • dave bickler sings this better

  • I agree. I believe that the people who enjoy Jimi's rendition more are just loyal to Jimi, but at the same time are not acknowledging Dave's version.

  • englez 92 what's your fav rocky MoviE?

  • I cannot believe that this was recorded in 2005..Jimi's voice sounds too young..I think someone is wrong..he is in his 50's ..and I know that his voice does not sound like this now..He rocks!!

  • You're so right mate. This is old, re mastered, I'm sure of it. He ain't sounding like this now, I swear.

  • who's the main singer for survivor, dave bickler or jimi jamison?

  • Dave Bickler was the original singer when they began in the late 70's until 1983 when he left due to polyps in his vocal cords. He sang the original Eye of the Tiger. Then Jimi Jamison came in to replace him in 1984 and sang most of their big hits such as I Can't Hold Back, Is This Love, Burning Heart, and The Search Is Over. He left in 1989 to go solo. Then in 1993 Bickler returned until 1999 when he left again, then Jamison came back from 2000-2006. Now the lead singer is Robin McAuley.

  • If someone knows how to post videos on youtube (unfortunately I'm not that tech savvy), I have a rare version where someone combined Dave Bickler's and Jimi Jamison's version into one song as if they were singing a duet. It's pretty sick yet quite awesome. Let me know so that you can post it on youtube for me. Thanks.

  • lol

You've sent it to me a long time ago..but i forgot to post it :)

okaay...so I will put that up as soon as i can!

and yeah..its pretty sick version! :D

  • Great, just keep me posted on that. It would be interesting to see what other people say about that mix.

  • this version is way better than the other

  • Jimi jamison can sing anything and this version of eye of the tiger he sings sounds amazing, what a gifted talent he is.

  • I wish they've recorded this when he was survivors frontman in back days...but still it sounds amazing, as u said :)

  • it would of been great if they recorded it while he was in survivor but it still sounds great because the one and only jimi jamison is singing it

  • This version was actually recorded in 2005 at the same time as "Glen" of Starbucks. If you notice,it's the same background music and also the same that Robin McAuley uses. I provided the MP3 to the guy who posted this song on youtube, but somehow, he listed it as Jimi Jamison instead of Survivor, which is cool I guess. Probably to distinguish it from Dave Bickler's version on the youtube search engine.Yeah, it is a great version as Jimi demonstrates much needed power with finesse in his version.

  • wow this was recorded in 2005, i didnt know i thought this was recorded in the 80's or 90's, i gotta say jimis voice sounds amazing for this version of eye of the tiger. Yeah your right about the backround music that its the same that robin uses. Bro this version kicks ass and i like jimi alot better than david

  • the way he sing that song it was so hot and

    smoke it better then dave

  • this sounds like Rocky III Version

  • I LOVE this verison

  • I like Dave and Jimi's version better also .

They should find a better singer than that guy .

  • They have re-recorded this with their new singer Robin Mcauley and that version sounds really weird because he is such a different singer compared to Dave and Jimi. Have a listen at Paradise Artists and seee what you think.

  • ehh it sounds a way different ... nd i dont like it :)

    i prefer jimi's version!

  • Yucko. He is a good singer but as proven, not a good fit at all for Survivor's music. Jimi Jamison happens to be a one in a million voice that sounds very close to Dave Bickler's, but this guy, sheesh, he belongs in some other genre, not Survivor, and much less Eye of the Tiger.

  • Sounds really great,BUT--don't everybody kill me--I have a sneaking suspicion this was recorded a half-step lower & then brought up in the studio. From what I know of Jimi's voice,he can't maintain this tessitura (esp. holding a high C that long) without thinning more, and it doesn't sound like he's thinning here. Believe me, he can't do this live. Always hard to tell with studio though, you know. But aside from the clipped phrasing,I agree with y'all, it's a great, strong sound. Thanx 4 posting!

  • I guess in the studio, you can rest your voice over several days, record over and over until you get the note right. But having said that, with the technology that existed in 2005 versus 1982, anything is possible. I listened to the new Robin McAuley version, and they used the exact same background music for him as they did for Jimi. Sheesh, I'll take Jimi anyday. What kind of drugs was Frankie Sullivan on when he chose Robin? Did Dave and Jimi piss him off that much?

  • Its autotuned from begining to end that's why. no-one else notice the computerised tone of his voice? when he holds the "Eye!" (sustained high C) he sounds like bruce dickinson from Iron maiden. and that aint a compliment!

However in his day JJ was excellent.

  • What are you talking about?

That's him ACTUALLY singing the notes.

  • I'm not sure if ronotron is referring to Jimi or to Oliver Hartman.

  • just do a search for autotune and you'll eventually hear what i mean. Pro tools! i've no doubt he sang it. i doubt very much that it sounded good without the autotune (with is added in the mixing process) just search in youtube for a video of him (jimmy) singing this around the time this version was recording. he sings it two notes lower. I mean in his heyday he could hit the C! there's a version on here of him from 85 and 87 live. its painful! Bickler however could manage the c live.

  • Is this song from an Album or something? if so, which one? I like it and I want to have it....

    Nice video

  • Why ya'll hatin on Jimi? He's amazing! Dave is pretty good too... I personally prefer Jimi :) Love him!

  • That's what I say. Pardon america for getting excited, but hey, we're all fans of good 70's-80's rock and agree that today's music has nothing on yesterday's. I admit I am biased towards Jimi but I've heard some old Survivor stuff, and Dave can belt out some great tunes as well. I'm glad we have Survivor and other great bands like Journey vs some of the crappy noise out there these days.Any new version done by these guys should be considered a treat vs some punk band redoing "Tiger".

  • I totally agree with you, jimi has one hell of a voice and i perfer jimi over dave any day

  • You can't blame Survivor for wanting to redo their own song with Jimi at vocals while he was still with the band before Robin took over. It's almost comic how people get pissed off over new versions. Just enjoy the music, Sheesh! If you don't like it, don't listen to it. I'm sure there are original Dave Bickler copies available to listen to. Dave's got a great voice but more whiny and feminine for this song compared to Jimi. People are just used to the original version after 20 yrs, that's all.

  • Anyone who believes that Jimi Jamison can do better than Dave Bickler is out of their fucking mind...! Overall Jimi may have a few more chops, but Dave's voice fits the anthemic nature of this song.... Jimi's voice is too punchy and pitchy....

  • True, Jimi Jamison does pronounce "fast" a bit weird but still a better version than Bickler's, who is still awesome but just not as good to Jamison's version but blows away Robin McAuley's.

  • I don't like it how he pronounces "fast", here or in the earlier versions when live singing. Not as good as Dave Bickley's imo. Sorry. :D

  • Dave pronounces it the exact same way. I prefer Jimi over Dave imo

  • I disagree. Don't get me wrong. Dave Bickler is an awesome singer and I like listening to his old stuff such as Caught in the Game and Real Men of Genius stuff. Bickler has an awesome voice, but I really wish Jamison would have been the singer for the original version as well. It's more fit for Jimi's voice as Dave's is too feminine yet Jimi's has that force that the song needs. The guitars and drums do the song justice in the new version. It's still Survivor.Beat's having McAuley singing it.

  • agreed

  • Dave Bickler can compete with many singers out there such as 38 special and Steve Perry.Regardless, both of these guys should be given props for nailing this song in their respective versions. Jimi's version is long overdue(recorded in 2005)and I prefer his, but Bickler did a great job too.I'm glad that Jamison did his version for those of us who like the songs he did for Survivor.I played Jimi's version for my friend, and she loved it so much that she compared it to being addicting like a drug.

  • I've always thought that Dave's and Jimi's voices have some similarities to them especially when they hit the mid to upper notes. When you listen to "Back on the STREET" in the 1st verse, "out in the HEAT" in the 2nd verse, "RISING UP" in the chorus and "the EEEEEYE of the tiger", I'd swear it was Bickler instead of Jamison. They're so similar. How did they find Jimi,a guy who sounds so similar to Dave? I wish today's singers could belt out tunes like these two. Today's singers and music suck.

  • heh i know today's rock really sux! :D

  • The only sense for making a copy like this, is to make some cash or to proof that Jimi can do the high notes, at least at the studio. I like Jimi and Dave as singers, but eye of the tiger is definite Daves Song.

And he still sings it as well. Thanks to all posting vids for us Survivorfans.

  • You got it right. Dave is the voice for this song period. Burning Heart belongs to Jimi. An' that is that....

  • great...but not as good as the original. heavier guitars and loud drums doesnt make it better. its a copy. he/they didnt attempt to make it their own. IMO.

  • I agree. It sounds like a cheap copy.... The energy just isn't there.... Shame on Jimi.... LOL

  • Where can I find this mp3 for download or what cd is this song on?

  • ask "platanotaco" I got it from him :D

  • Yes it is. Wonder if we should get it posted on youtube as well? Just a thought.

  • I will, probably ...

  • amazing and rare. Thanks for the post. I'm a big fan of Survivor and jim jamison

  • This version is awesome. I gave the MP3 to the guy who posted this song because I didn't know how to do it. I just hope more people hear this version and how awesome of a job Jimi did, not that Dave Bickler's was bad by any means, but this is an inspiring re-make.

  • the duet is sick also :D

    ty

  • Thanks for putting this version on youtube. I never would have figured it out. I hope the public out there can hear how Jimi Jamison does this version, which I think kicks butt!
