this show was simply amazing. as Clancy Brown said, there wasn't enough people who embraced its complexity and subtlety. Carnivale planned to have six seasons. SIX DAMN SEASONS!!! Imagine the possibilities. Another great show canceled because of the dumbed down public.

i think part of the problem was that no one heard of it maybe because of poor advertising of something, i think the best think to do is to rerun the show and try and get it popular to the point HBO can't refuse to fund the rest of the seasons, might be a little too late now though as the actors have gotten older

I love this show to death, but I'm not surprised it was canceled. It might have had great writing and characters, but it also had an incredibly slow pace. One of the most consistent criticisms I hear is that the show is boring because of it. It also placed a huge focus on atmosphere (which not many people can appreciate) and a deep mythology (which made it difficult to get into for new viewers). The show in general is also really strange, and it just seems very niche.

The show was meant to be six seasons, which you'd know. So the slow pace is.. Well the first two seasons are one big intro, would have picked up during 3/4 and been absolutely brilliant 5/6. Too bad it never got that far :(

I generally hate all intros of shows, but i absolutely love this one, if nothing more than for the amazing music.

It doesn't have low ratings on imdb.com its pretty high actually, 9.0/10 from a ten. They usually get higher when the show is cut off. People become more interested in things when they get taken off of the air. I'm just hoping this won't happen to True Blood because that is such a great show. And has high ratings, alot of people like it. I'm guessing also because of the sex, too. Lol but HBO does tend to take off such great shows, a lot of the time. Idk why..

I saw the first episode last year and thought, "This is the show I've been looking for--a fantasy for adults set in a specific historical era." It's now one of my favorite shows. I'm still bitter about it's cancellation (especially considering other shows like Big Brother have had over a dozen seasons thus far), but, in the end, I'd rather have the first third of a great story than no story at all, so I'm happy.

The intro is brilliant. I never skip it when watching the show.

There are a few loose ends, but for the most part, things are wrapped up in a satisfactory manner. This is definitely not a series to miss. When you finish it, read the Carnivale pitch document online--it explains the history that the series would have told in later seasons and makes many things (i.e. characters, magic) much clearer. The creators also put out a statement telling what happened to the major characters after the end, so you're not left completely hanging. Enjoy!

Because the ratings did not live up to the required minimum if they where going to keep pumping $4 mil into every episode, and the general consesus where that if they can not make the show as good as they possible can, they won't do it at all.

I know alot of ppl on the show, and on HBO fought hard to keep it on the air, but, sadly it did not work out. So we are left with 2 extremely well-made seasons of what I consider to be the best show ever aired, but as you said, it left us hanging.

Not sure why Carnivale got low ratings. It had such a haunting, amazing story. The setting (Great Depression, carnival) was perfect and the show had a great balance of character development, plot development, fear factor, and overall entertainment. Plus how ingenius to put Ben, an ex-con as the good guy versus Brother Justin,a man of God, but representing evil.

The shame is that it was the first show that was actually planned out. The seasons weren't just "Yeah, they're wathing it, let's drag it out". Dexter for instance. This show was meant to have six seasons, so the first two were basically just one really big intro.

Is it weird this show reminds me of The X-men Age of Apocalypse X-Man Comic book 1-4. Very slow, very quiet, very odd. Too bad HBO didn't give them the six seasons they supposedly promised them. Sometimes too weird for its own good but they had to cram 72 shows into 24!

I'm glad I bought both seasons and I'm thinking about buying a new set of Season One because mine doesn't have the same attractive packaging as my Season Two.
