FTP sucks in general - outdated, high latency, garbage protocol. Why would anyone want to open yet another connection to transfer some data, create and parse text data (while you can use perfectly good binary format).

Well, I didn't get all of this, either. But if tech-savvy people say Vista sucks, then it really does suck! Heck, I can barely watch a video here on YouTube without Vista crashing! And what is up with the "Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown" and "Windows is looking (or searching, whichever one it is) for a solution to the problem" bullshit?! And they never tell you what the solution is! And when you click view details, you see a bunch of code you don't even understand!
the problem is that u didnt change the name for that file you put in the mapp you fucking retard next time come upp with some real viste errors dumbshit !
Hahahahahaha, damn vista sucks. I cant stop laughing at all those video, you dont get the point, when the user click cancel it took Vista such a long time to close, thats one of the reason why Vista suck so bad.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Wow kid, you're pretty dumb. Learn how to use Windows before putting up a stupid youtube video, proving that you aren't even smart enough to use Explorer.
I have to admit that if you turn of the UAC, and delete all of the unnecessary and unwanted files and programs, and just filter out the OS, Vista works pretty good with no problems.
Its funny I have no problem with Vista a part from the FTP feature. I cannot connect to my site. It says the host has been reset. Yes I've checked my fire wall I have even switch it of about 20 times just to check. Yes I have switch on the enable ftp folder view outside of I.E. and enabled FTP passive. All in IE7 I might add which I do find weird since if I don't use I.E does that mean I have no control over my FTP.
why, exactly, does that suck? because you're too stupid to realise that the process window is different to the other window that gives you the options?
...and there is already a patch for Halo 2 and 3 to make it work with Windows XP and the all new DirextX version 10 that supposely only works at Vista development is already underway for a Windows XP version all thanks to the elite hackers. Already on distribution you will find the Alpha version of Direct X10 fr Windows XP. The real reason behind this limitation is not due to any XP Limitations (there is none) is due that M$ wants you to upgrade to Vista.
Yes, by disabling UAC (User Access Control) which is a new restrictive feature of Windows Vista. But if you install Windows XP SP2 on your computer/laptop you will note that it will run 100 times faster thats because vista takes up wayyy too many unneeded resources <-that's what I did with my new laptop.
Minivanmaster, FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol where you get to transfer (copy) file from your computer to a server serving the FTP service(daemon). For example, if you own a website and have a web hosting account you can design your website offline at your computer using programs like M$ Frontpage and then upload your work via FTP to your web hosting shared server account to make it public live at your website.
forgot to mention non-intuitive. Nothing in vista makes sense. if you vista lovers think your OS is simple and cant figure out how to use OSX, somethings seriously wrong with you. Please stay with XP or go to Ubuntu or OSX if you cant stand windows anymore. It'll be the biggest favor you will do for yourself and you'll save money in the long run!
SuperShadow, now you dont need Virtual PC Slooow EMULATION, now you can run Mac OS X and Windows XP both at its native speed with full hardware support---on a PC. All what you got to do is get an ASRock Mainboard with Intel Chipset, get a i386 patched Mac OSX install DVD and install it on your PC reboot and then install windows XP, get a custom boot loader and you will have a OS choice at boot up. You will need a P4 CPU with HT SSE2 and SSE3 enabled.
It has nothing to do with laziness or how many clicks are needed. The issue is extremely poor design. Hiding a confirmation box behind an existing window is CONFUSING AND NEEDLESS.

never use built-in defragging routines on xp or vista.
I used to install the "DiskeeperLite" thingies to replace those ugly brainsucking defaggers from M$ and these provide much more status info and worked smoothly.
OK, so, I tried to open the disc defrag, however, VISTA gives NO status bar, No timer, No clue what so ever how long or how much needs to be done. Only a vague and ambiuous message that reads "disc defrag can take several minutes to several hours"... OK???? What ever. But it does give me a little color ball swirly timer like Apple does, which doesn't tell me anything iether but it's pretty and cute :)
Anything you do with Windows is a chore. I use Mac and Windows. Loaded printer drivers for a new Samsung laser printer for my Mac. From the box to printing in less than five minutes! Drivers loaded in about 12 seconds! Done. Did my Windows machine two days ago, loaded HP Deskjet drivers. Took 20 minutes!
you know why it says that because your putting the same fuckin file in the same fuckin folder, dumbass, everytime you do that its asking you to overwrite, really dumb
I Think you missed the point of this hole thing. he knows his copying the same file inot the same folder, the first time he confirmed it that he wanted to overwrited, but the second time he tried it he didnt want to overight it, and thats when that little windows started acting up.
Also to equinoxofinsanity, you need to do the confirm and cancel on the same window. The first time you confirmed on the one window and the second time you cancelled on another window. You have to do the same. The confirm/cancel dialog box is for file replacement, not to cancel the FTP process. The window in the forground is just for cancelling ftp function but because its now in the middle of an accept or cancel, you need to address that before going forward. It makes sense.
It makes sense the way putting a live fish on top of your head and telling people your feet won't get wet makes sense.
The moral of the video is a dialog box shouldn't be spawned in front of another dialog box that you actually need to interact with. *That* makes sense.
This obviously is a minor bug, that could be fixed (or is probably fixed already). The dialog window "Replace or Cancel" should be modal, to prevent the progress window to fuck the whole thing. But for obscure reason, it is not, hence makes a simple file replacement very anoying.
The point is, how the hell did they manage, with so much resources, skills, developers, and time, to release such an unstable and unpolished OS ?
But I'm afraid, the worse is yet to come, with the upcoming Vista SP1 BETA. OMFG, SP1 BETA ???? That means new bugs to add the an existing horrendous base ?
Can you say why you think its a POS? You talk about all the overhead but have you done any tests or are you relying on what you've heard and read on the net? I've tested using Cenbench, Photoshop, WinRAR and LAME. Scores within XP and Vista were within like 2% of each other or sometimes identical. Games will be slower (but not so slow to cause playability issues) for now because of new drivers but that will change down the road as it did like XP when it first came out.
OK you think i made comments about something i have not used or tested?, its slower, file transfers on vista are SIGNIFICANTLY slower, icons and thumbnails around the whole entire system load slower.. i actually have to watch the icons load when i go to the start menu, incompatibility issues are endless.. partition magic is just one of such software. so is gimp. driver issues ...
as with games its horrible, quake 3 arena glitches and has contrast issues and is laggy and unplayable in windowed mode, and the fact that vista is about the same as xp in ur benchmarcks just points out THE BIGGEST FLAW OF ALLLL its is THE SAME OR WORSE then xp yet it uses 10 times more system resources and so you know i have a 3.3 ghz with 767 ram and 128mb gfx card, i dont have an old system , its just vista and its just a piece of shit, thats y EVERYBODY complains about it!!!
Just becuase you see less "free memory" doesnt mean vista is wasting it. Its being used by superfetch. Also 767mb RAM is honestly nothing these days. I had a gig of ram 4 years ago in my P4 2.4 system. Also you're basing your tests on watching the start menu come up or thumbnails and you're calling my testing flawed? I'm benchmarking using specific procedures.
As for driver issues vendors had plenty of time to write drivers for their hardware. Vista was announced years ago.
not i said if your results were valid it didnt prove anything.. you said it was about the same as xp.. thats absolutly bad, if its the same as xp and uses 10 times more resources then thats an inefficient operating system, and 767 is plenty of ram, 1 gb is needed wen you play intensive games such as half life 2 which take 500mb or ram ..
But thats fine, please show me one instance ever of any operating system which is a generation newer which uses less memory than the previous generation and at the same time is faster. Think of XP vs 2K. It used more memory and game benchmarks and most benchmarks did go down. Nothing has changed. Its just that Vista is now where XP was when it was released. I dont see anything wrong with that.
but to have windows itself take more then 500mb of ram before loading anything onto windows and not really account much in this then thats just a bad operating system, its not just my bias openion , iv used windows, and imnot comparing microsof twith apple, im comparing 2 operating systems, and vista is just flawed in so many ways.. it should be an improvement but in many respects it went backwards
I think the only time its a problem, its when you're riding closet to the memory limits. Also you're talking about intensive games but listing something over 3 years old. Thats not even current. Please try Oblivion, Fear, WOW, Stalker with 767mb ram. You'll see its far too low. So to be up to date, you'll need minimum 1Gig ram even with XP.
in Quake3 I get 671 FPS in XP and 614 FPS in Vista. At those framerates, it doesnt even matter. Newer games are GPU bound. I get nearly the same 60FPS in games like Quake4 in both vista and XP.
BTW nothing really wrong with vista at all. Very minor stuff that people just like to bitch about. People bitched with XP when it first came out too and now everyone is hugging it like its the best thing. Vista will have its quirks solved shortly and then all you guys will end up jumping aboard and saying its the best thing since sliced bread. I run the 64bit ultimate and its very stable and the OS itself is more responsive than XP. Might be the 4gig ram but its fast.
Btw, can OSX even upload via FTP with its connect to server command - or its built in shell function? Last I checked (10.3) it could not. Now that was pathetic. Supposedly there was script that fixed that but it was a 3rd party discovery on how to get it working as it came from apple disabled.
OS X does allow you to connect to remote servers via several methods (including SMB to connect to a Windows machine). FTPing through OS X is very buggy however, and I'd say it's overall not as good as Windows XP's built-in FTP, though not as annoying as Vista's.
Overall WinXP had by far the best built in FTP system I've encountered. Why they screwed it up in Vista is mind numbing.
One window is the file copy function with only one option on it...cancel. The other is a warning that something already exists. Options are yes, yes to all, no and cancel. Cancel should be here as well just so the person doesnt need to go back to another window to cancel the operation. If you cancel from the main window, what ever you do on the alert window, it wont matter, its cancelling the rest of the copy.
Windows Vista really does suck. I'll have to try out that FTP problem and see if I have it. If you have any problems with your Vista PC, check out IHATEVISTA. Just google it! :P
If you want to just type papers go online and do basic stuff get a Mac. Most of the major programs people use like MS Office or Photoshop are on Mac. If you play games then get a PC with windows XP on it. Not Vista games run slower on it, go look at the benchmarks. And for games Microsoft has Direct3D witch is way better for making games I think. OpenGL is better for cross platform apps, but not with Vista, I herd they stopped support for openGL. So anything openGL runs like shit.
Not quite for me. After switching to Linux (openSuse 10.0) I find windows less then usable. Yes, Linux needs getting used to it, but when you do, you will never go back to win$shit :)
I think both XP & Linux have their fine points, but Vista is a no go in my book. I don't like all the spying & overhead that's present in Vista. NSA backdoors, Microsoft spyware, etc...
It isn't a major problem but it still is a problem. It is a usability problem to be exact. Just imagine going to a car dealer and the dealer telling you, "Oh, the wheels might come off, but don't worry cause that's normal." The Windows OS has lots of major flaws that people just ignore because they think it is "normal."
Meh...it's not that big of a deal too me. But for some people who want to get things done fast, it may get annoying. Does Vista FTP come with Ultimate?
dedigan, check out the audio. A window spawn right in front of the dialog which blocks you from accessing the dialog box. You have to move it out of the way before you can do anything, and you can't cancel or close it without first moving it to get to the dialog.
FTP sucks in general - outdated, high latency, garbage protocol. Why would anyone want to open yet another connection to transfer some data, create and parse text data (while you can use perfectly good binary format).

I used to install the "DiskeeperLite" thingies to replace those ugly brainsucking defaggers from M$ and these provide much more status info and worked smoothly.
berndpfe 4 years ago

You call that a problem? I've heard worse stories about Vista than having to deal with a few more pathetically easy clicks.

you know why it says that because your putting the same fuckin file in the same fuckin folder, dumbass, everytime you do that its asking you to overwrite, really dumb
stevewins914 4 years ago
I Think you missed the point of this hole thing. he knows his copying the same file inot the same folder, the first time he confirmed it that he wanted to overwrited, but the second time he tried it he didnt want to overight it, and thats when that little windows started acting up.
cooldbz12 4 years ago
all he has to click is no,besides who puts duplicates in the same folder,if he wants to put it in the same folder he has to rename

Genius, one frequently has to reupload files with the same name via FTP when UPDATING A WEB SITE!
equinoxofinsanity 4 years ago
If you every worked in web design, you know the easiest way to update the site is to just replace an existing file.

ephemerol 4 years ago
Also to equinoxofinsanity, you need to do the confirm and cancel on the same window. The first time you confirmed on the one window and the second time you cancelled on another window. You have to do the same. The confirm/cancel dialog box is for file replacement, not to cancel the FTP process. The window in the forground is just for cancelling ftp function but because its now in the middle of an accept or cancel, you need to address that before going forward. It makes sense.
svtcontour7 4 years ago
It makes sense the way putting a live fish on top of your head and telling people your feet won't get wet makes sense.
The moral of the video is a dialog box shouldn't be spawned in front of another dialog box that you actually need to interact with. *That* makes sense.
equinoxofinsanity 4 years ago
This obviously is a minor bug, that could be fixed (or is probably fixed already). The dialog window "Replace or Cancel" should be modal, to prevent the progress window to fuck the whole thing. But for obscure reason, it is not, hence makes a simple file replacement very anoying.
The point is, how the hell did they manage, with so much resources, skills, developers, and time, to release such an unstable and unpolished OS ?
astrofra 4 years ago
But I'm afraid, the worse is yet to come, with the upcoming Vista SP1 BETA. OMFG, SP1 BETA ???? That means new bugs to add the an existing horrendous base ?
astrofra 4 years ago
You're not forced to load a beta servicepack. XP had beta servicepacks as well..
svtcontour7 4 years ago
agreed. vista is indeed a piece of shit
vladp6 4 years ago
Can you say why you think its a POS? You talk about all the overhead but have you done any tests or are you relying on what you've heard and read on the net? I've tested using Cenbench, Photoshop, WinRAR and LAME. Scores within XP and Vista were within like 2% of each other or sometimes identical. Games will be slower (but not so slow to cause playability issues) for now because of new drivers but that will change down the road as it did like XP when it first came out.
svtcontour7 4 years ago
OK you think i made comments about something i have not used or tested?, its slower, file transfers on vista are SIGNIFICANTLY slower, icons and thumbnails around the whole entire system load slower.. i actually have to watch the icons load when i go to the start menu, incompatibility issues are endless.. partition magic is just one of such software. so is gimp. driver issues ...
vladp6 4 years ago
as with games its horrible, quake 3 arena glitches and has contrast issues and is laggy and unplayable in windowed mode, and the fact that vista is about the same as xp in ur benchmarcks just points out THE BIGGEST FLAW OF ALLLL its is THE SAME OR WORSE then xp yet it uses 10 times more system resources and so you know i have a 3.3 ghz with 767 ram and 128mb gfx card, i dont have an old system , its just vista and its just a piece of shit, thats y EVERYBODY complains about it!!!
vladp6 4 years ago
Just becuase you see less "free memory" doesnt mean vista is wasting it. Its being used by superfetch. Also 767mb RAM is honestly nothing these days. I had a gig of ram 4 years ago in my P4 2.4 system. Also you're basing your tests on watching the start menu come up or thumbnails and you're calling my testing flawed? I'm benchmarking using specific procedures.
As for driver issues vendors had plenty of time to write drivers for their hardware. Vista was announced years ago.
svtcontour7 4 years ago
not i said if your results were valid it didnt prove anything.. you said it was about the same as xp.. thats absolutly bad, if its the same as xp and uses 10 times more resources then thats an inefficient operating system, and 767 is plenty of ram, 1 gb is needed wen you play intensive games such as half life 2 which take 500mb or ram ..
vladp6 4 years ago
But thats fine, please show me one instance ever of any operating system which is a generation newer which uses less memory than the previous generation and at the same time is faster. Think of XP vs 2K. It used more memory and game benchmarks and most benchmarks did go down. Nothing has changed. Its just that Vista is now where XP was when it was released. I dont see anything wrong with that.
svtcontour7 4 years ago
but to have windows itself take more then 500mb of ram before loading anything onto windows and not really account much in this then thats just a bad operating system, its not just my bias openion , iv used windows, and imnot comparing microsof twith apple, im comparing 2 operating systems, and vista is just flawed in so many ways.. it should be an improvement but in many respects it went backwards
vladp6 4 years ago
I think the only time its a problem, its when you're riding closet to the memory limits. Also you're talking about intensive games but listing something over 3 years old. Thats not even current. Please try Oblivion, Fear, WOW, Stalker with 767mb ram. You'll see its far too low. So to be up to date, you'll need minimum 1Gig ram even with XP.
svtcontour7 4 years ago
in Quake3 I get 671 FPS in XP and 614 FPS in Vista. At those framerates, it doesnt even matter. Newer games are GPU bound. I get nearly the same 60FPS in games like Quake4 in both vista and XP.
svtcontour7 4 years ago
BTW nothing really wrong with vista at all. Very minor stuff that people just like to bitch about. People bitched with XP when it first came out too and now everyone is hugging it like its the best thing. Vista will have its quirks solved shortly and then all you guys will end up jumping aboard and saying its the best thing since sliced bread. I run the 64bit ultimate and its very stable and the OS itself is more responsive than XP. Might be the 4gig ram but its fast.
svtcontour7 4 years ago
I totally agree with you svtconour7.
FriedrichWilliamII 4 years ago
Btw, can OSX even upload via FTP with its connect to server command - or its built in shell function? Last I checked (10.3) it could not. Now that was pathetic. Supposedly there was script that fixed that but it was a 3rd party discovery on how to get it working as it came from apple disabled.
svtcontour7 4 years ago
OS X does allow you to connect to remote servers via several methods (including SMB to connect to a Windows machine). FTPing through OS X is very buggy however, and I'd say it's overall not as good as Windows XP's built-in FTP, though not as annoying as Vista's.
Overall WinXP had by far the best built in FTP system I've encountered. Why they screwed it up in Vista is mind numbing.
equinoxofinsanity 4 years ago
One window is the file copy function with only one option on it...cancel. The other is a warning that something already exists. Options are yes, yes to all, no and cancel. Cancel should be here as well just so the person doesnt need to go back to another window to cancel the operation. If you cancel from the main window, what ever you do on the alert window, it wont matter, its cancelling the rest of the copy.

Wow! It must be sooo hard to move that window right?
Give Vista some time. Wait until SP1 before you judge it.
FalconProductions 5 years ago
why should we wait for sp1?
what the hell was beta testing for?
i mean why do i have to wait 50 seconds to reply to an e-mail?
why do i have to wait 1 minute for dremaweaver to open up before i can start using it?
why does it take 30 seconds to filter each e-mail - i can filter about 100 emails of spam myself in about 2 seconds.

dedigan, check out the audio. A window spawn right in front of the dialog which blocks you from accessing the dialog box. You have to move it out of the way before you can do anything, and you can't cancel or close it without first moving it to get to the dialog.
