I understand you want to play with it but my god, it's 4 days old and barely moving by itself, you have to be more gentle if you want to handle a puppy that young. It's not a toy. If you want to stimulate it, rub it gently to give it warmth, not shake it and poke it! Its eyes are barely opened. It's cute and I see you love the puppy, but dude, be gentle, it's like you're shaking a 4 day old baby. It's not a toy.

Westies are the best dogs ever. Great with people and kids. Reallly love you. I'd never get another dog. They've got Alot of personality, most amazing smart little dog ever. I've never own another kind. If you get the westie as a puppy, he/she will be able to work things out with the cat. You'll love it!

they're not known for their temperament. I own a westie and they fight with other dogs like i own another miniature dachund and he likes fighting with her and he's defensive but it's not a terrible problem.

and yes they really love you and love children. they won't try to herd it.

They have FANTASTIC character and temperaments(I have 4 Westies) but they are sooo playful and loving that you should always have them in pairs so they have a lifelong companion and playmate!

I've lived with a breeder this summer (a very good one too) and stimulating them like this is very good when mom doesn't want to. The people here commenting that this is *NOT* torture are completely right.

When mom's not around or doesn't want to take care of her pups, they have to be cleaned, toileted and yes, poked/held/prodded by the breeder his/herself. Any breeder who doesn't dive in when mom doesn't want to is irresponsible. Stimulating is for the puppies' own health.

If you read the description it says that as the mother isn't stimulating them the person had to do it themselves. The back rubbing is surpossed to get the heart and all that working. So they are not killing the puppy but helping it.
