It was a shame that they couldn't bring the original big doors and light borders, but the replicas for this prime time special looked so much like the original big doors and light borders.
Michael Karp did the Million Dollar Spectacular theme? I didn't know that. This was one of only two non-million dollar spectacular shows that used this theme. The other was the celebration of Bob Barker's 50 years in television special in May 2007.
The 40th anniversary special should be from Radio City Music Hall in NYC. Bob should make a guest appearance, but he probably would not like to host. Since he retired, he's only been on the show maybe once or twice. Besides, he'd be nearly 90 and, God forbid, he may not be in good enough shape to show up.
i missed this 30th anniv show because there was an ice storm and power failure on the campus of the university i attended at the time (suny brockport), i consoled myself the next day by watching the specials i have on tape from 20 and 25 years... thanks for posting,
Yes, at all tapings they have cue-cards for at least the first four contestants because you're right, no one can hear a thing over the noise!!! I still have my cue card as a souvenir :D
@jmblood Not anymore, I believe; George's announcer podium has video screens and they may have switched to the side video screens for George to read.
Wow, I remember this like It was yesterday. My wife won on that show and it was an amazing Moment. Thanks for the producers and everyone associated with the show. The cars are old now, the money long gone. ( we JUST finished paying the taxes on it all) But the memories will last a lifetime. Im telling you, I have quite a story to tell about the entire thing, and would just love to share it. The entire ordeal was something else.
As you can see, the Big Doors are somewhat different but do have a similar design to the original ones. The reason why the original Big Doors did not come with the rest of the set is because they were too large to enter the stage doors in Vegas.
Behind the scenes I believe not everything went according to plan. Plus I think there was a scrap as people were trying to get in which Rio was liable for injuries.
they gave away nothing but cars didn't they?

@Kjr0se Of course they couldn't because it would have been too much work carrying it from Los Angeles to Las Vegas.

@zbsx That's a great idea! and did you know that Rod Roddy started announcing in 1986 of the show?
chrispleasantable 1 year ago
@chrispleasantable Did you know that backstage problems about salary on THIS special is why Rod wasn't shown on camera after year 30?

@telewatcher89 No I didn't.

@zbsx Who knows? Betty White is about as old as Bob and she's STILL going strong.
TheJamesgordon43 1 year ago
@TheJamesgordon43 Betty is 89, Bob is 87! Here's to hoping they both make it to 100!

Wouldn't be surprised if it was rigged for her to win all three cars-YES behind every price; the show was CELEBRATING
