  • BORN AND RAISED IN NASHVILLE, INDIANA!!!! I WAS BORN IN A SMALL TOWN!! :)

  • "Used to daydream in that small town" Not a whole lot of 'dreams' left are there? It's really all about 'being human' versus being a puppet, a machine, a faceless cog in the wheel; in a landscape where no one really cares and those who 'care', care only to contol you like the faceless, nameless number that they are trying to make you all. Consider singer-poets like Mellencamp to be prophets for you all in the Brave New World in which we continue to be encased.

  • @jeff62rey look up blues travelers hook....can u believe they made a pop song called brave new world no worries my friend their scared of Ron Paul Reagan freed Europe Paul shall free America boy I wish we really did beat communism....did we forget about China? The elites are so stupid good thing Chinese know better not to invade

  • i wouldnt give a flyin #### whether i ever met john Mellancamp or had any association with him whatsoever- means nothing , all i know is that i have loved his music since 1979 and i will always think of him as one of if not the best ameican artist ever

  • I grew up in Beekmantown NY, about 5000 people. They only have two flashing traffic lights and no post office! This song makes me think of home. I may be 50% redneck but I wouldn't give up my small town childhood experience for anything! Proud of my roots. Posted this to Facebook tonight to salute all of my fellow Beekmantown peeps!

  • this song i want to be played at my funeral it reminds me so much of my life of when i was a lot younger brings back the memories.

  • I was born in a town with 50,000 ppl, and moved 5 miles away to a town that has 3500 people,so I was born in a small town and moved to an even smaller town,I mean a hole in the road

  • i live about 25 miles across the bay from san francisco, when i talk to people from small towns they think im lucky, in 28 years i been to san francisco about10 times?i cant stand that place. the last time i was there i saw 2 guys kissing, that was all i needed to see i was outathere....

  • @ubsme2 the trouble is small towns breed even smaller minds...

  • @sarahetludlow1 small minds are everywhere,i here about dumb farmers, well if i was to run a farm i would not know what to do. what i seen on tv there is alot you have to know to run a farm, and its alot of hard work, to feed people that live in cities, esp the big cities, they go to college then they get a cozy office job and con and stab people in the back,a handshake does not mean a thing or a promise. the hell with a big city..they are exciting if you like getting shot at or mugged.

  • @ubsme2 Not suprising you wouldn't know what to do to run a farm, you can barely write

  • @sarahetludlow1 what a dumb comment. honestly, I don't even know where to start

  • @greenapplefever Fair enough, but it was in specific reference to what the other guy had said about two guys kissing.

  • @sarahetludlow1 ill take small and simple over violent and ignorant any day.... ROLLING PRARIE, INDIANA POPULATION 250

  • Thumbs up if you were born in a small town like me

  • @MrMrcrain town of 750

  • Small town in Ohio :)

  • Bethel (White Lake), NY :) my hometown love it forever!!!

  • Small towns turned into Meth towns.

  • Almost makes my heart hurt watching this, and listening. It brings back a certain "nostalgic feeling" that I never really even encountered much of; which makes me almost think I lived in the 60's-70's in a previous life or something. -Especially when I see the roller-rink at the end,... I dunno... Just really gets me in a sad, yet good way. God Bless ya John!

  • John's music hits very close to home, I live only 50 miles from Seymour and am a born&raised Hoosier! I love his music, livin in a small town, and Indiana!

  • fort wayne, indiana

  • From Lewiston, ID here! Not the tiniest, about 20,000 people (50k in the whole valley)

  • my grandfather grew up next to this great man for 10 years in one of the trailor parks in Seymour Indiana they were best friends when john ended up getting famous world wide he asked my grandfather to become his roady but he declined it to be with my grandmother and now my grandfather is slowy being killed by CDF ( congestive heart failure ) and his one dream is to see john once again before he passes

  • @shadowslayer897

    really?

  • @Liverpool27143

    yeah really

  • So...what I'm getting from this...is that he loves big towns.

  • Though I too am Very glad to live back in the small town I lived in, or as one Could say,, lived Just outside of my small town, where we DID have to walk at that time 3 miles to the bus stop, except of course the winter time, due to our winters were what most would say ,, Blizzards ,, but to us that was normal seeing 8 ft of snow ,, but feels Great to be back in my small town :) I like his music as well, even though I disagree with his political views, his music was/is Great !

  • I have a lot of respect for John Mellencamp! Even as a big star, he stayed true to who and what he was! A great human being!

  • Glad I moved back to 'my' small town! ;-)

  • 1:18 is that bloomington,MN ?

  • @AandsomeJ bloomington, IN

  • I grew up below his town, Scottsburg :)

  • John Mellencamp and Bruce Springsteen are the best Rock 'N Roll artists of all time. WHen the other comment said that it reminds that person of Bruce Springsteen's beautiful songs you know his music is similar to Mellencamps with the licks, the sonds of the guitars and of course the drums. Example if you listen to Mellencam's "Crumblin' Down" and SPringsteen's "Pink Catillac" the sound of the drums sounds exactly alike. Even the tempo.

  • John is a national treasure

  • This song always reminds me on Bruce Springsteen's most beatiful songs!

  • i never knew who sing this ntill i got this tape amd i youtubed it :] im glad i did.

  • One m0:00re time.

  • such a feel good song ! <33 mom and dad played this at there wedding <3 PERTH, ONTARIO FTW :)

  • Small towns are good for the world.

  • I'm giving a shout out to the small town I was raised for most of my life until I left for college and finally moved from there in 1996. It will always be my town. Haskell, Oklahoma, I'm proud to have grown up and went to Haskell Public Schools. Go Haskell Haymakers. Go HHS Band!!!

  • kingsville - missouri population 240 thats a small town.

  • If you live in a town with less then 5 people, and can prove that you live their in the next 2 hours after this comment was posted, I will move to one.

  • @Chrisgodoflard I dont think 5 people would count as a town, some households have more people than that

  • McKellar, Ontario, Canada....population 900....one general store, a gas station, a fish and chip vendor in the summer and a community centre. i dont live here, i live in toronto (2.5 million) but my cottage is in mckellar

  • @TOSportsFan1990 Really? No offense but that doesn't really count. I have a cottage near Bala but I wouldn't consider myself a small town guy.

  • @Maxmulham nah it doesnt...im not a small town guy at all id go insane if i lived in one, i like the city...ill probably get a lot of heat for that on this page but small towns arent my cup of tea

  • @TOSportsFan1990 Fair enough. No one's blaming ya. I live in Burlington now myself. In my perspective, small towns and cities both have their ups and downs:D

  • Hated my small town as I grew up, everybody knew everybody, one stoplight, no anonymity. What I wouldn't give now for that same thing. This song makes me believe in what my parents, grandparents, et al, believed in: knowing is comforting, you're never alone when hard times come and they WILL come. Thank God for small towns.

  • @GoldenPig2012 Amen brother . I grew up in small towns, lived in a big city for a lotta years and got out of it..back in a small town now where people still talk to each other as strangers, and walk away as friends . I'm raising my daughter in the small town I grew up in..clean air, low crime, lots to do and every day I live in a post card setting. Its not perfect , but its a small town, and thats good enough for me .

  • @GoldenPig2012

I'm somewhere between where you were growing up, and where you are now... still living in that same small town, and I hate it. The older I get though, the more I'm beginning to understand why I love it...

  • @GoldenPig2012 I agree ! And moving backj to a small town was the Best thing I did once again after livin in the suburbs for 20 years, though live Just outside of the Suburbs,, but feels Great to live back in the small town ! ( though I must confess,, I like his music, but I dont care Too much for his politics)

  • @GoldenPig2012 I couldn't have said it better myself.

  • @ thedanishviking7 that's 18 small town drinks! ...and 1 big town?

  • Shout out to North Carolina!

  • I am from a small town in Indiana, Always lived in the same county in Indiana until recently when we moved to the small town of Converse. Has only 1 stoplight 1 gas station, no fast food places aside from 2 pizza places, only 1 family dining and the police, fire and city clerk are in one building lol. I love SMALL and QUIET towns!!

  • the town in the video is not a small town. Notus ID pop: 537 people, is a small town ha, The song still hits all those aspects of the small town heart though

  • I lived in a small town until it got too crowded .damn subdivisions . Moved 3 miles away and across a river . Its just like the old town used to be . Peace and quiet .

  • @antisocialisme It got crowded because they all heard this song ; P

  • Bastrop La, is a small town!!!!

  • I am from a small town called North Jackson, Population about 2000

  • Stayed in Seymour a few times, their Is a T/A there

  • Small town life is amazing. I spent much of my life in Mayfield KY which was awesome. 10255 people. Everyone knew everyone. It was great.

  • My family are from Lawrenceburg, Indiana which is about 40-50 miles down Hwy 50 from Seymour, Indiana which is where John Mellencamp is from, still lives in and was singing about when he recorded this song. It's a slice of Americana ~ rural America, the heart & soul of this country. I lived in Lawrenceburg for awhile, in the early 80's, and will forever love the people and the memories of Southeastern Indiana. For me it's gone now, all of it, but these are real lyrics from a real place.

  • thumbs up to everyone in the small towns of TEXAS! Borger baby

  • if you think seymour is small go out to commiskey Indiana just south of north vernon on hwy 3 now thats small while your there eat at lurtons

  • I live in a pretty big city, so I can't relate to the song much.. I'm just in love with John and his music lol.

  • I live in a small town, population 1,200, so he must have been through here at some point,LOL

  • Goes out to Horning's Mills, Ontario!!!!!!!!! It has a population of like 200. Like to see someone top that.

  • @Maxmulham i used to live in alaska in a town of 80 people max, my graduateing class had 6 people, everyone graduated to.

  • Suburbs outside of Birmingham, Alabama ftw

  • Why am i counting how many times John says "Small Town"? When i can just look up the lyrics and count it that way......

  • thumbs up if you just mute the adds

  • I adore this video

  • Seymour is what I call the biggest small town in america

  • i wanna jump on the back of that bike :)

  • Johnson, Min pop.50. There is less now. Maybe 100 back in the 60's.

  • @TheXTVproductions

    What was he like???

  • Scott, Ohio population 250...now that is a small town!

  • Angouleme, France? But nobody knows, that back in 1524, NYC was once called New Angouleme!

  • I liked the part where he mentioned it was a small town.

  • Funny, my small town is much smaller than his town. What do you expect, he was born in Bloomington, Indiana, B-town is not a small town anymore. I actually live 20 minutes away from Bloomington. I even know where he lives. Met him at Marsh one time before as well.

  • @TheXTVproductions best thing about indiana, with the size you literally live next to him.

  • @TheXTVproductions

from indiana and bloomington is VERY small. for the record he was born and raised in seymour, indiana

  • Comment removed

  • my small town makes Mellencamp's town look like a goddamn city

  • I was born in a small town, but there is no way in Hell I'm going to stay here till I die. The second I graduate high school, I'm off to the city. I don't care if it's a huge city or a medium one, or what state it's even in. Anything's better than here, and I think I'd go clinically insane if I ended up spending my whole life here.

Maybe some people like small-town life, but I was not built for it.

  • @Ldidnotdie same exact thing here, I live in Phelan, ever heard of that? No. Nobody has.
