hadn't heard of them before tonight, just saw them tonight opening up for bela fleck...they stole the show. my wife and i were going crazy at their energy and honesty on stage (corny i know, but it's true). will be hunting them down for more shows!!!!
Just goes to show you that if you have talent you can make anything sound GREAT! As she said in an earlier video, people used whatever they had. I truly believe that after seeing this song. This is great! She really works it! Great group!
While my son went to Bonaroo drinking cold beer in the hot Tennessee sun, I stayed at home in the AC drinking cold beer and watched Bonaroo Live on YouTube. That's when I saw these guys for the first time. Watched their whole show and knocked out a six-pack before I knew it. Great music. Love it.
Love this group. It's great that CCD has chosen to mostly focus on period style string band music from the 1860s-1920s, as a music teaher its promising to see people this age taking interest in that type of music. As for the kazoo, at one time in the US it was considered to be a serious instrument that often employed complex rhythmic techniques. Amazing.
Dekalbblues--And as well (as the men in the audience doubtlessly well appreciate!), she demonstrates prettily yet con gusto what the "shakedown" dance-tune form was slyly designed to do. A wonderful band!
Shakedown, handjive, and a little fancy steppin all in one
Why you so hateful? Really good music do that to ya, huh? What you call a dobro, I call a resophonic guitar, because of the resonator device(makes it louder). All Dobros( named after the Dopyera Brothers, I believe) are resonators, but not all resonators are Dobros, i.e. National Steel.Have a nice day, smart guy.
@blademon7 - Very little difference between a Dobro and a Resonator. I think this one's a Dobro because if u look carefully at 2:26, you see that the bridge is in the center of the metal plate which is typical of Dobros. You are, however, correct to point out that all Dobros are resonators, but not all resonators are Dobros. =D
Point well made, kfgenius. Your knowledge of dobros is far superior to mine. Your eyes are better as well LOL. I gotta stop reading these comments and just enjoy the music. ;-)
They are one of the most innovative grops out there now! Using kazoos, jugband instruments, and the traditional instruments of banjos and fiddles to make some fantastic music. Thank you to WDVX and also NPR to have introduced me to Carolina Chocolate Drops.
@whitepinejack39 I wouldn't call retreading old instruments innovative but thats exactly why i like it. its a return to the Roots of REAL American music, One song against the world....
@whitepinejack39 There is a band called Sloppy Joe, they play the Saw, yes like you cut a tree down with ! Check em out they play Magnolia Fest at Suwannee River, Live Oak Florida
