  • I know that there a lot of white racist. However, John Thompson was a black racist. He chose only black players for the '88 Olympic Team, the first team that lost the gold medal in USA history. There were many white players who were good shooters, but Thompson said he was only looking for athletes to apply his pressure defense. This was just stupid and I never liked John Thompson since.

  • um!!! why do st johns have hail to the redskins as they fight song ?

  • @TheEaglesfanindc probably because a redskin and a redman is a native american thing idk really but thats my guess

  • St. John's not having dorms isn't the reason they haven't really been elite since the late 80s, though. Kids generally want to leave New York after doing the whole high school/AAU/5 Star, etc. circuit and want to see what the world has to offer (namely more money and status, as teams outside of the Big East were winning national titles back then -- Duke, UNC, UCLA, UK, etc. Had the refs not cheated in '92, UK would have won one with Mashburn). But no one in the Big East was winning nat'l titles.

  • The defense back then sucked. The players were more fundamental and polished offensively, but the defense was awful.

  • @MrClipper23 Pat wasn't awful.

  • Sorry

Georgetown won a National Championship with Patrick!!!!!

  • The Hoyas-Redmen rivalry of the 80's was like the Redskins-Cowboys of the Big East

  • The 1985 Hoyas are still one of the best teams not to win the National Championship & I still can't believe they lost to Vilanova

  • @ErikS1975FreeState They should have won in '82, '84 and '85 IMO.

  • @TheEsquire212: They would have repeated in 1985 with Michael Graham.

And, if they had Graham in 1986 and 1987, they would have probably went to the Final Four, at least. Those teams were still good without Ewing, although the 1987 team overachieved somewhat.

  • @sptrfn I agree, was watching back then. Was off with my call on '83 (earliest memories were the '85 team and then as a Knicks fan, King's knee around the time of this very game), but Georgetown definitely would have beaten Nova with Graham's intimidating presence.

  • How many players in this game made the NBA. Ewing, Mullin, Wennington, Berry, Mark Jackson. Were Willie Glass and Shelton Jones on the 85 SJU team.

Georgetown had Ewing, Wingate, Reggie Williams, were there any other players from Georgetown who made the pro's.

  • NCAA決勝など

  • If there were 3 pointers back then Chris Mullin would have scorched every team in the NCAA and SJU wouldve won the national championship

  • I saw all the nationally televised GU games back then. This game was a pay back for GU against the Jonnies b/c St. John's knocked GU off during the season from the #1 spot & GU spent the rest of the season watching St John's in the #1 position until they met again. It was on then. The Hoyas won by like 20 in this NCAA tornament game.

  • Thanks for posting this Video! I am a huge Hoya Fan! This entire era of Big East ball was so grattifying to witness growning up. Seeing GTOWN Battle all the Big East foes throughout the season. Although, we would fall to Nova the next night we have to appreciate just how tough the Big East was during the 80's .

  • When Players were tough nose Big East Kids they didn't give a dam about dorms! Real players like Mullins, Berry, Mark Jackson, Willie Glass, Wennington, Shelton Jones, Sealy, Jason GUN HAPPY Williams didn't cry about rooming they just went out and competed night in and night out in the toughest conference in he nation.

  • St. John's does have dorms now, but it's a tight fit in Queens. As for the Big East, it was awesome back in the 80s. Even the 90s, which were somewhat ruined by the terrible 6-foul rule, had their moments. But football had a lot more to do with the changes the league went through more than anything else. I hate BC with a passion, but they have no business geographically in the ACC.

  • @rjaymoose

Yeah seeing B.C. in the A.C.C makes no f'n sense what so ever. I totally remember the 6 foul rule that was really weird.

1985 and 2009 were two the most important years of Big East basketball.

  • St Johns will never be the same untill the change their name back to REDMEN

  • They need athletic dorms. Jamal Mashburn going to Kentucky (during probation) really sent a message to the New York and Northeast schools.

  • Yes, lack of dorms and sizable on-campus arena was/is an issue at the John, but Mash going to UK had more to do with Pitino than any of St. John's shortcomings.

  • Mash's mom wanted her to go to a stable environment like Kentucky which dorms so that coaches can keep tabs on their players where Louie couldn't do that.

  • @Ariamaluum Yeah, like the other guy said, they have 'em now. But while it wasn't a concern for me (supervision), the fact that they didn't have them in '03 when they offered me a full ride is why I didn't want to go there. If I had to do it all over again, I would have gone. Mashburn really wanted to get away from anything resembling the Polo Grounds, man, and his moms was going to make sure of it. Being a Harlem cat myself I can understand it during those late 80s.

  • @kgamra1 I agree. I was a fan of the REDMEN, but no, they wanna be PC and the team won't win until they go back to being the REAL ST. JOHN'S.

  • Those times were simply out of this world.

  • The best conference in college basketball

1982 until 1996... THE ORIGINAL BIG EAST!!! It's A shame what capitalism does now it's all messed up, i hate the current big east

  • Lack of Athletic Dorms compared to ACC and SEC is the issue.
