Enkidu tried to talk Gilgamesh out of killing the guardian of the cedar forest....Enkidu died fora transgression that was the brainchild of Gilgamesh.
i think intimate here is roughly translated from Sumerian language it means close. It doesn't necessarily means that they were gay. if u listen well this epic mention explicit sexual ideas including sexual intercourse, seduction, love making and girl raping freely, it didn't actually ignore homosexuality it was not mentioned coz there was no homosexuality they were simply best friends whom were close to each other like the men in east now. they kiss, they hug and it doesn't mean they're gay.
Gilgamesh is definitely NOT gay. Different culture. Even to this day, male intimacy (hand holding and non-sexual petting) is still a major part of the culture.
@Megaseawolf I agree with you, in Italy , Spain, Cuba, Mexico etc men also hug and kiss each other but it doesn't mean that we are gay, that mean that we are close friends.
Where does it ever hint on Gilgamesh and Ankidu being homosexuals? I was kinda excited that they may be, but after listening to this story, it seems that they were simply best friends cuz they had so much in common. No one else was like them. They saw themselves in the other. Also, it was very common and still is in the East for men to kiss as a form of friendship being confirmed. But did I miss some hint on them having sex? Did I not pay attention close enough?
"Best friends" is a whole different term than "intimate friends" notice how it says they are "intimate friends"
"Oh Enkidu, you are the knife in my sheath" -Gilgamesh....Hmmmm?
The VERY close relationship between the two is inferred many times throughout the story. Especially how Gilgamesh was a girl raper, taking all brides his people before their wedding.
@myfavoritehome lol..it's a 4000 year old account/story/myth/whatever...you're focusing on something that is most probably there, but not through direct reference.
Until his "intimate friend" Enkidu, then they stop talking about his girl-raping...(cuz he has been satiated by his muscular young friend Enkidu who can take a good beating, unlike the ladies)
Wow funny how somethings never seem to change through the times. In helping a "friend" Enkidu ends up dying for having done so. I can't remember that proverb about the life you save.
Earlier Enkidu and Gil insulted Ishtar....killed her bull, threw meat at her....told her they would do the same thing to her if they could catch her.
Then after Enkidu died for it......Gilgamesh offers her a pointy wooden stick and asks to be with Enkidu for he wont be lonley.

Notice how Gilgamesh makes a gift for the god "Sin"....
Ever wonder where the word Sinai comes from? It means "land of Sin", or more appropriately, the land dedicated to the God SIN (a sumerian god).
