He is so cuuuute!!! No joking, i have a Pleo too :) But it always seems video's of Pleo seems to be much more adorable.. I made a video of him this morning and found some wierd white light in one of his kinda nose holes at the front.. I watch my video and got really freaked out by the white light, could someone tell me what it is? I thought it could be him trying to communicate with my camera thinking it was another Pleo, or was it just detecting colour? It was the left bit just near his mouth

FYI: Pleo does a few known issues. There are threads on them at the official Pleo forum. 1)The skin wears within months, so that experienced owners are recommending new owners buy little shirts to protect the skin. Within four months to a year the skin is likely to begin to crack in places, especially at the knees.

Some people will pay the price others won't. But it's amazingly expressive, extremely cute, great for those with allergies or can't have a pet where they live and other reasons. The "exact same movements" claims will die a rapid death in two short months. Go to RobotsRule-dot-com to see brand new videos and lots of different movements.

Aibo certainly does have emotions.. I had an ERS-210 model and the Aibo Life software raises your Aibo from a pup. Honestly, from all the videos I have seen, it looks like Pleo is no where near as advanced as Aibo. The newer 7 Aibo even has face detection and can autodock on its charger.. I did want a Pleo, but not after this huge price hike, and the fact that it can't auto charge itself ruins the realistic factor for me. It looks more along the lines of a Roboreptile from Wowee

How much does the toy cost?

What does a kid learn? That a toy seems to be "alive" - but it's still a toy. I don't know if that's a good thing for a kid to learn: "alive" things can be turned off/dropped/destroyed as needed.

Meanwhile, real dogs/cats are killed in shelters every day, that are no doubt cheaper than this toy.

Pleo is currently running $340-$380 depending on where you go. Some places are less, some are more than what I quoted. I have a preorder for a $360 so it was somewhat in the middle. I personally do not consider Pleo a "toy", she is an animatronic and I also do not believe a child would treat this 300+ dollar animatronic properly. Pleo should be for mature adults only.

Yeah Aibo is amazing but the only problem is you can't get them any more. I went on to Ebay and the cheapest one there was £600 and that was the starting bid! One buyer offered Aibo for a buy it now price of £2000. I love robots and anything AI but I'll never be able to afford an Aibo at the price. I'm a student!

Hmm, I just noticed, after watching it again, that the eyes do not blink once. I don't know if this is because blinking occurs infrequently, or if they disabled this for now? I think I heard somewhere that Pleo is supposed to blink and perhaps possess some capability to move both eyes.

That's almost surely because it's a prototype. You can see at the start of the video that Pleo does open his eyes so the capability is clearly there.

Why does it look so... erm... weird? I like the looks from the video, Ugobe's Pleo Robotic Dinosaur, better than this. And those sound effects sound more like a baby human. ;( All these new updates to Pleo are making him worse and worse, why can't they just keep him the way he was back when he looked like a real animal?

It's different. Pleo has a more complex set of internal behaviors, but the AIBO was completely programmabel so much of its complexity was determined by the creativity of the user.
