Everyone here was laying it on ridiculously hard. How ferocious. Wouldn't that push away anyone's judgement that might have been in your favour using less of an intense message? Or were you guys successful?
As a none believer I would have "compromised" and argued for an amendment to the motto: "In a wide variety of supernatural entities (for which there is no evidence at all) 85% of us trust (except when we get sick)".
THAT would be the truth. The proposed motto is simply and demonstrably untrue and as such, is a lie. What would it say about the council to deliberately adopt a lie as a motto?
@philhellenes I really have a hard time believing that the TRUE number is anywhere near 85%. Scratching the surface of many people "belief" reveals that a good number of people are believers on paper and agnostics in practice. Beyond that, i don't see a whole lot of actual trust in god from many people... "hope" would be a better way to describe their outlook I think. So maybe "In god some of us are hopeful" That trust you have gets crushed rather quickly after seeing the inaction of a god.
I wonder if your gains will be worth it?

In god we trust... to be an incompetent bastard at best, a petty, vindictive cunt at worst.
Wait, what am I talking about? Asshole doesn't even exist. But if he did...
