Why do I always see this "5000 years" everywhere in regards to China's history? The Yellow River region was inhabited by nothing more than neolithic tribes at that point (3000 BC). Compare this to ancient Egypt and Sumer (Iraq), which were already building great cities at that point. China's earliest archaeologically confirmed kingdom, the Shang Dynasty, is no older than Europe's first great urban civilization in Mycenaean Greece (c. 1600 BC). It seems the Chinese just like big round numbers.

Mandarin is the language influenced by the conqueror. Han China was the colony of the Manchurian, Mongolian, and 遼 金 etc for 1000 years.
