  • Hey Could you please tell me how to run .rpm files in linux after mounting. Please reply .Thanks, Subscribed.

  • @Arjun007ize

You don't mount .rpm files you install them.

I install an .rpm file you use a command like: rpm -ivh rpmfilename.rpm

  • i need help uninstalling opera plzz

  • @giovannierivera Have you tried:

    using the rpm command.

Type "man rpm" enter to get the info.

  • Linux will never take off on a mass scale until this is resolved, its ridiculous how hard it is to install software, right now I have a ymp file I click it and it opens a text editor with pages of text.... great.

  • @Danster82 Linux is already on a massive scale within server rooms. The ymp files are used with OpenSUSE-what version are you running. It's very easy to install software.

  • @vwbond im just referring to mass scale for end users, which it seems is what Ubuntu and mint are trying to achieve. As soon as there is no need to ever type a command, use a terminal and so on then Ubuntu will take off.

I think what a developer doesnt understand is as soon as clicking a button doesnt produce the desired result the non technical user has no other recourse its a complete dead end.

  • @Danster82 I can't really agree because sometimes you have to go into "regedit" or use "cmd" aka msdos prompt within Windows.

  • Hey vwbond, it would be great if you showed everyone how to get the codecs you need to play DVD's in Fedora. I think a lot of people are unpleasantly surprised when they try to play a movie after installation.

  • its a little different, but so is each os next gen

  • I have tried many of the "mainstream" distros ; Mint, Fedora, DSL, Arch, Redhat, Berry, Debian, Knoppix, Sabayon, and a few others.

Due to many issues stemming from failed installs, lack of X support, or just learning curve/UI intuitiveness (lack of)...I found 'buntu family is best suited for my uses.

I love KDE, but found Kubuntu tends to be more resource heav, and has more issues with broken depencies...also Java and hardware acceleration are not "automatic" like ubuntu.

    That's just me.

  • Opera for the win!

  • opera rules

  • Difficult? I found Linux especially simple, been using it for approx 6yrs.

  • @upallhours9 I been using Linux for 3yrs. When I tell people I use it software installation is something they think is going to be got-cha moment.

  • @upallhours9 this is a very easy task after 6 years

  • Opera is fine, but I just been a Firefox user myself.

The great thing about linux is the flexibility users have.
