  • Interesting story. Thanks for sharing.

  • he was just a great philosopher not a genius but his theorys were genius he thought thoughts that most of America back then thought were stupid or insane then by proving his theroys we humbly called him a genius i wonder why i mean he is just the handful of people in earth where they prove different from what was originally taught in school or in religion

  • "He's too busy to be bothered by meaningless meetings like this one."

If that's true, then Einstein probably had a sad life, because sounds like he was a prisoner of his own genius.

If one is too brilliant, he can't waste time meeting some stranger or doing anything that has nothing to do with Physics. =/

  • it is not that..a genius can have a life

but..see it how i feel it, a genius, is 30 meters up to you, in the inteligence stair...you are a lesser been, understand? how can we have a life, with a person we think its dumb, because that person cant understand us, and cat even talk about what u like?

  • I think Dr. Hausdoerffer an equally wonderful person to meet.

  • Einstein is a great guy.

  • This video says a lot. education does need some changes, and we must create balance even in giving and receiving.

  • The old woman immediately's reaction was the so predictible reaction of Some US people when someone expresses an opinion of their country that they lose the focus on the conversation, the man instead showed that there is humble people in the US when he admitted that "they appreciate knowledge a little bit more than we do"...she then learned to not feel bad of an opinion I hope, anyway I'm neither from Europe nor from US...Peace on earth!

  • Thank you very much for posting this, I loved watching this video. I completely agree with what Einstein said about education in America, it's very true. So many times we're too worried about the "Almighty Test Scores" rather than whether or not students are really learning.

  • old people can tell discribtive stories very well

  • Wonderful video, I enjoyed it thoroughly.

  • Beautiful.

  • USA exist from Europe people and some othere'S from africa and othere countries, so it could be sur right to say that they had such kind of educations-system and got to change it later also with help of the europien culture!

  • Who else was annoyed by the woman in the background disagreeing with Dr. Hausdoerffer about the state of education in the U.S. at the time? I believe Dr. Einstein was correct in what he was saying, couldn't she have just shut the fuck up and listened? Historically, the best scientists and mathematicians have been from Europe.

  • @davidacolley

Yes, and he had a couple mental disorders that go hand in hand. ADD, aspergers

  • God dammit Dianne!

  • This man doesn't look like he is 94.

  • he does, look at his arms... like hello? do you use your eyes for anything?

  • He looks like he is in his 70's.

  • my Grandma is 83 and she has MUCH BETTER LOOKING ARMS! He's not in his 70-s! 70-s is still relatively young - you must be 18 to think that someone cna look at old at 70 (Tina Turner is 62 - does she look old?)

  • What the fuck are you talking about? You seem to be obsessed with arms! John was simply saying that Dr. Hausdoerffer looks good for his age. He does, for fuck's sake! Most people are dead by then! Then you start blabbing on about arms - did you even watch the video properly!?!

  • no, I'm not obsessed with arms.

I'm making a logical argument for why your friend was wrong about what he said.

and you are being a bully about someone makming a sensible comment, maybe because you don't like people disagree with your crap

  • Yes, I disagree with you. I'm not alone in thinking this guy looks good for his age, and that he in fact looks younger than he is. I wasn't the first to point it out. He's quick witted, very intelligent, and the fact that he can still string a sentence together at that age indicates that he is in good health. I bet at the time of filming, he was living in his own home and could walk by himself. I wonder if he's still alive now. Does anybody know?

  • @davidacolley Dr. Hausdoerffer died today, he could still walk at the age of 98, and last month I visited him and he told me this story. My great-grandmother (Mrs.Hausdoerffer) is still alive and well.

  • @CCarlisle1396 How lucky you are to have had such an interesting Great Grandfather and how special you are to acknowledge that and to be able to hear his story first hand.

  • awsome hahhhaahah I didnt atch it to the end

  • its funny how much the discoveries of radioactive materials changed the world and yet there is only 24,000 views. Another basic anomily that means preasure creates numbers, or larger numbers as Albert would have found.

  • Albert Einstein rocks!!

    General Relativity and Quantum Physics

    What's next?

String theory or electric universe theory?

  • Albert died in 1955 so this would have been quite close to his death. Hows Rose, she is another the Albert Einstein antagonist even after the fact. Nice yarn anyway.

  • what are they laughing at . poor old einstein , being told who he could and couldnt see , academic wankers ,einstein being self taught would always erk the book learned academics ,,,

  • Suggestion.

Suppose at the age of 8 all American Children were told that if they could answer ten questions about the Lorenz Transformations, they could stop school.

I bet that by the age of 15 more than a few students would be legitimately roaming the streets bored out of their minds.

Give them a concrete goal, give them a sweet prize, and most students will point themselves in the right direction.

  • I really hate it when the Good doctor decided that he would not permit Einstein to be bothered by another scientist that had traveled all the way from India.

    WANKER

How the hell does he know how Einstein spends his time or wants?

Tell me WHY should we laugh at this anecdote?

It just shows you how you have to kiss ass to be in Academia.

Listen again to the Good Doctor, and try and change my mind.

  • yeah that's pretty screwed up

  • Well I think he was asked that not the college president

  • do you still have the photos? we want to see them!

  • Awesome video! Thanks :)

  • Thanks for the video, it doesn't get much better than that...

  • carlosb1 and haiauphixu i totally agrees with your comments...This Video is great ...

  • кто б уце перевел для меня... :(

  • What a great interview. Is it me or does Dr. Hausdoerffer sound a little bit like Peter Falk? :)

  • From Dissertation Express:

"THE MATHEMATICAL CONTENT OF TWO GENERAL COLLEGE TEXTBOOKS."

HAUSDOERFFER, WILLIAM H., PhD. RUTGERS THE STATE UNIVERSITY OF NEW JERSEY - NEW BRUNSWICK, 1950.

From The College of New Jersey alumni planned giving web site:

"Emeritus Professor of Mathematics Bill Hausdoerffer '36 has always been good with numbers. Rosemary Canning Hausdoerffer '52 was widely recognized for her creativity as an exemplary school teacher and a role model for other teachers."

  • he just has to be american (shakes head)

  • they usually are just minor tools to make you life easier. Onther proof remember american invetor? the inventions of some of those americans where pretty stupid and guess who won yep he wasnt american in blood.

  • i have to agree with Einstein about how europeans value more education. think of it, almost all the geniuses or all have been europeans. Americans just have the money to pay for new inventions. we have many examples, great scientist usually are from other countries. think of the invetions americans build.

  • I'm glad I come across this video, Einstein is my hero. One of his quote :

"Reading, after a certain age, diverts the mind too much from its creative pursuits. Any man who reads too much and uses his own brain too little falls into lazy habits of thinking."

  • read einstein a life its a good book

  • he is not 94 years old. He is 75

  • yes, he is :P

  • Einstein is a great guy.

  • When most people are bored their minds start to wonder, thats why you want a teacher who can capture your attention

  • I disagree totally. The more a student is interested the easier he learns.

  • Anyone at university will know a lecturer who is so boring that nobody actually learns anything-people fall asleep in the lectures and by the end of the semester hardly anyone goes to the lectures. Then we have the funny, engaging lecturer who makes the subject seem interesting and fun-everyone turns up to lecture and learns and good exam results follow. In my case, I have been put off certain subjects due to a boring lecturer, and it's left an impression on me. I'm glad you're not my teacher.

  • Yeah I agree with Einstein too about education here. I'm a high school student and all colleges want are good grades and good SAT scores. It's very frustrating.

  • wait to you get into college. the GPA system is screwed! dont worry, good grades dont mean anything.yes they can increase your chances of getting hired but they still dont make you a genius. its all about your imagination and ideas. Einstein was fustrated with his schools because he was a dreamer who did not settle for just what he was taught. his toughts where so brodened that he was probably bored with his classes.

  • very cute but you have to watch all 3 videos.

  • aww..I love this video...I agree with the Genius that education is supposed to be an enjoyable intellectual endeavour but in the US it doesn't work that way. Students are so stressed out in a negative way; they want to get good grades in certain subjects but they aren't really interested in them

  • 101 % agreed... Heart plays a vital role ..

  • yes thats the problem they worry to much about grades but thats what seperates the geniuses from the non-geniuses(i mean geniuses dont worry to much about grading). in a way geniuses are rebels of thought ,they dont settle for a simple explination they even become bored with their courses.
