  • i though ryu didn't use RPB. at 2:40 it was a great shot....but with the speed glue ban...i think his game lowered a bit.....but still a great player...

  • Never retire Ma!!! Please, never retire!

  • Ryu´s footwork is brilliant

  • 2:21 ==> WHAT A FOREHAND !!! :-)

  • Ma Lin counter smash superb!!!

  • I disagree with you bro, if you play backhand with everyback shots then when are you going to win a point? In order to became the top player you need to learn how to forehand strokes on the backhand side.

  • What I also meant is the fact that european players also learn to play forehand topspin in the backhand which in my eyes is completely dumb but thats only my opinion, everyone has his own thoughts about it ofcourse and I respect that. Im only searching for some things that european players might come closer to beating chinese players, cos obviously they cant beat them in footwork and cant beat them in technique, so I think european players have to play more with tactics like samsonov.

  • So Samsonov does have a good record against Chinese players....huh?

  • No one has a good record against the top players in the world, not even each other, there are some that Samsanov plays well against, but penholders, aka the best two in the world, murder him and his blocking passive style.

  • It really pisses me off that all those top players, only play with forehand. They sometimes use bh but not often enough. Its the fastest game on earth, even in slower sports like tennis they use bh, why do they want to play everything with FH? i know its because of the power you can get with a FH stroke, but I dont like it at all. The most stupid thing is, that people in europe learn to play like this but they will never be so fast as chinese because they dont train their footwork like chinese

  • you know what? it is true the fact that alot of top player uses the forehand more than they do with the backhand, but the penholders like ma lin and ryu are exeption, they are penholders, so they don't have a choice since there backhands are weak and not consistent enough. Also, you are wrong, the shakehand players use backhand pretty enough, check wang hao, ma long, timo boll and others for example.

  • What you say is right, they do use bh pretty much but what I meant is, any ball that comes in the backhand you have to play with the backhand, thats what I want to see, most of them just open with the backhand and then run around the backhand to play forehand, if the other player blocks the other direction they have to go in defense, they wouldnt have that if they just keep playing bh. But you are right some of them dont have a choice, but what I like to see is play bh in the bh and fh in the fh

  • So it's just a completely random and somewhat illogical preference.

  • Eesh, what Ryu needs to learn is to put rubber on the back of his paddle, his backhand got killed there. It's not hard to learn the RPBH on a Korean paddle, I did it in a few minutes from a Korean player.

  • 2:21 Ma lin FTW!

  • 1:06-1:09 is just awsome, hes killing Ryu. Ma Lin FTW!!!

  • 0:57 hell yeah!

  • Ma Lin is a short-haired smashing machine! lol Is it just me, or has Ryu Seung Min been sucking lately? He was much better in the 04 Olympics.

  • thats just because ryu seung min is on fire in some important tournament like olympic or WTTC. But, he plays normally in normal tournament. The chinese like ma lin, wang hao or ma long are already used to ryu's style.

  • what about ko lai chak, is he used already? =PPPP

  • he isnt used, HE'S ON FIRE!! =PPPP

  • that's incorrect. ryu seung min winning 04 olympics was b/c he was on fire, not the other way around. he was ranked lower and his record vs wang hao was under 22% for wins that time.

ryu learned from the chinese when he went to play in chn superleague for awhile. he almost was banned from kor team.

if you know what to look for, you'll notice ryu is very smart and talented. even in this game, he adjusted and improved while playing ma lin.

  • god damnit Ryu stop using that BH and go for RPB!!!

  • his BH is good enough to win olympic gold. not to mention a monster FH.

  • it wasnt enough...

  • its because of the 1 ply kisohinoki wood.. that wood feel different.. its solid either spin/smash/defense

  • It WAS good enough to win Olympic Gold. Now everyone knows not to let him get to his forehand and since the glue ban and his own aging, his normally fast game has slowed considerably and now he's likely to lose more.

  • Which one you are you talking about, Ryu or Ma?

  • Ryu. Ma Lin uses the RPB.

  • what's up with the new shoes they're using in china?

  • the block at 2.32 is ... really ma's main playing style. very effective!

  • Ma Lin gets to open first. Then Ryu has NO chance.

  • very true

  • cool!

  • Ryu's style of pengrip is just not effective anymore! He can't beat the top players with that style, which means he may as well retire now, because it's just going to get worse for him as he gets overtaken by everybody.

  • Agreed. But the fact that Yoo Nam Juk (Don't know how to wright his name exactly, Olympic Champion 1988) isn't his coach anymore matters too!

  • yoo nam kyu is the player ur talking about...but i think his coach is kim taek soo

  • mhm true. his backhand is attacked by wang hao and ma...he should either retire or start using RPB, reverse penhold backhand...otherwise he will fail in long terms, if he wants to continue

oh sang eun and joo are safe as they are shakehanders...well, kinda xD

  • but eventhough they are shakehanders, theyr ranking is worse than ryu´s...

  • Epic game!!!!

Footwork for Ma Lin at 0:14 is unbelievable!
