  • Excelent video

  • Great song, great singer. Kathryn gives her all to it, and it shows.

Every time I see it I'm reduced to tears. Thank you Kathryn.

  • This movie was totally terrible compared to the origional w fred and ginger and irene dunne. The only reason I watched the whole thing was because of Mrs. Grayson. she was a wonderful lady and a bright star. She's perfect in every film and, when I heard of her passing, it was one of the few times I've cried over a film stars death. She gave so much joy to so many people. I think she carried this film all by herself.

  • The only time that she sang well.

  • TCM broadcast "Lovely to Look At" today, July 18th, Red Skelton's birthday, and Kathryn Grayson's interpretation of this song done for the movie is absolutely beautiful. I'd never heard her sing it before nor seen the movie, and I was very much taken with both! Thank you for posting this video clip.

  • jerome kern and otto habach wrote this wonderful song in 1933 for irene dunne. it sure has lasted the test of time.frank

  • X Factor, eat your heart out!

  • Kathryn was great but she ain't no Irene Dunne!

  • RIP kathryn until we meet again God Bless you!

  • RIP Kathryn the Great!

  • Just lovely - thank you!

  • Thanks for posting this - excellent.

  • this is from a period of time when LOVE was natural and normal to express , our society has become as twisted as our Governement , it brings tears to my eye's , What have we given our posterity in recent movies as an example of true Love , they didn't call her Katherine the Great for nothing,

  • I have the CD with Miss Grayson singing this song, and I listen to it over and over. I LOVE her voice and the song. Though maybe I love the song because it stays in my rang and I can sing along :) Lovely video I enjoyed it very much.

  • this movie was made when LOVE was still an emotion and not just a physical act

  • Wow...I'd love to watch the full movie..hope I can find it online or something..

  • what movie is this , doe's anyone know the one where she played a princess

  • @jhunted7667

this song came from the musical Lovely to Look At. Not sure about your other question!

  • she is just so perfect

  • What a range she had!!!

  • Absolutely exquisite!

  • Marvellous! Beautiful voice and style!

  • I just cant, i mean, just this video, katherine grayson, singing this song, it's just incomparable, beyond words, It is a true angel gave her voice to this woman, it is far beyond what any words could ever praise, just extraordinary that such a heavenly voice could come from a human being, simply captivating.

  • Such a lovely voice! Still, for me, this piece simply "belongs" to Risë Stevens.

  • How Lovely !!! I'd like to watch this complete video. How can I get it?

  • Wow, she's amazing. Look out Lady Gaga :)

  • This is so great - she was awesome in every way - GREAT singer & GREAT actress - thanks for posting!

  • Sometimes we don't realize how long some of these songs have been around. I remember the 60's version of this song by the platters and didn't realize it had been around in the 30-40's. I have always enjoyed the musical artists of days gone bye. Kathryn Grayson, Deanna Durbin, Judy Garland, Ava Gardner, Harry Belafonte, Bing Crosby, and the list goes on and on........all superstars!

  • Bealtiful video!

  • good to look at she is beautifull R I P

  • I am reminiscing tonight.. Listening to some of my very fave Musicals and tunes.. Kathryn was such a beautiful lady. I watched Showboat in it's Entirety last week and my heart was touched with each love song much as it was the first time I saw the movie.. Plus, each time I see Kathryn, I think Naomi Judd is her spitting image.. 2 Beautiful Voices in Time.. It would be grand to see Naomi play the part, once again...

  • the good old days . . . the Classic . . .

  • She should have been in a Disney film, a voice fit for a princess x

  • RIP Kathryn. Your voice was gorgeous

  • Jerome Kern at his best. And dear Kathryn. So sorry sweetie they forgot you this year at the Oscars..But you have many people who love you .you will never be forgotten by us.....

  • I miss you very much. Your beautiful and so is your lovely voice. Say hey to my Grammy up there!!

  • My darling Kathryn, I will miss you very much. Your career was much too short but your voice will live forever! Good night, sleep peacefully and I will see you in Heaven when I get there.

  • She was beautiful and voice to match . not fair. But that the way God makes angels... Goodnight sweetheart...

  • most entertainers today are so understated, to be cool I guess, the energy from these classics bursts through the screen straight to the heart!

    RIP Kathryn the great!!

  • Lovely voice. RIP, Kathryn Grayson.

  • They called her Kathryn the Great, and that she was. I e-mailed her on her birthday. Part of what I said- Its says you were born Feb 9th, 1920. Of course I do not believe that. You are an angel who appeared one day to grace a very troubled world. You are not only beautiful but sing even better. Thank you for sharing yourself with us. She decided to go back to the Heavens.Their gain is our lose. Move over Angels there is another one coming . Bless you and RIP Kathryn

  • @hajune

"They called her Kathryn the Great, and that she was."

Agreed. I havent seen many of her movis outside of Kiss Me Kate and Showboat but I've always liked her and I am saddened to hear of her passing. RIP Kathryn Grayson.

  • @hajune 1920 was a good year for angels.

  • Made a mistake .Kathryn was born 1922. I knew that but somehow posted the wrong year. It does not matter. We are blessed no matter when she was born. We will always be able to hear her and see her sing.

  • This is a beautiful message. I really got chocked up when I read it.

  • I wrote some additional info about KG recently. A magazine told me they would like to use it. They have my blessings. The Academy Awards said nothing about her Sunday. Wow that is one more thing wrong with Hollywood! She was more talented and may I add beautiful then anybody performing today. Katharine Hepburn called her the best young (at the time) actress of her day. She was a class act both off & on camera and wanted to be just a "regular guy." She helped and trained many potential singers.

  • Let me know when it'll be out so I can pick up a copy. I'd love to read what you have written about Kathryn. It is a shame no one really mentioned how great she was at the time of her death.

  • @hajune She was the greatest of them all. When MGM was at its best!

  • This wonderful Jerome Kern/Otto Harbach song is from the stageshow, ROBERTA, and Irene Dunne, who made the movie version is singing it on youtube, too. Kathryn's version posted here is from a biopic she did of the opera singer Grace Moore called SO THIS IS LOVE (1953).

  • I'd never heard her sing this before, but it is a great version. I am a big "Showboat" fan but whatever Ms. Grayson was in, she excelled in it. RIP, Ms. Kathryn Grayson......

  • OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE SHE DIED! I JUST FOUND OUT! T_T Nooooooo.

  • rip Kathryn Grayson-

  • What a great voice! She will be missed. We have lost so many of these great singers. Today's singers don't have the talents these singers had.

  • RIP Ms. Grayson.....you filled many of our hearts with your beautiful voice. You will be surely missed by everyone of your fans.

  • so sorry to hear of her passing....what a voice, and a beauty!!

  • R.I.P you will live on forever in the movies you did and we will always be able to hear that amazing voice

  • You were a talent and beauty that comes only at great intervals......You will always be missed and loved.

  • This is from Lovely to Look At, a remake of Roberta.

    R.I.P., Miss Grayson.

  • Kathryn was discovered by the janitor at the St Louis Opera as a 12 year old singing on stage to an empty audience . She was introduced to a man who trained her to enhance her operatic voice. Louis Meyer heard her and then saw her and she was hired on the spot. What took him so long. That somebody that beautiful had a voice to match is our gain and thus our blessing.

  • Happy 88th Kathyrn "The Great" It says you were born Feb 9th, 1920. I know better you were not born you flew in from the Heavens and stayed here to bless we mortals. Nobody but nobody could be as beautiful as you and be an even better singer. You were the very best. Thank you for sharing yourself with us.

  • mostly miss grayson was interpreting songs too strong, but in this version sche took her "back" and the reslt is ... wonderful.... so wonderful.. thanks for posting ..

  • Glad you liked it, thanks

  • very nice post, this version of Smoke gets in your eyes is very romantic ! thanks

  • Glad you like it

  • She was very special.....one of the best voices ever!

  • I think so too

  • I love this song. Thank you for posting this clip!

  • Kathryn Grayson is usually such a smiley singer, so it was very refreshing to see her give a dramatic performance in which she is not smiling all the way through. her voice is amazing, like a bird's! I love her =D thanks for posting.

  • Una de mis canciones favoritas, cantada por mi cantante consentida!!!! gracias por subir canciones con K.Grayson, voz priviligiada,y angelical!!!!

  • I have been "drilling down" for a classic, by the book rendition of "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes."

Thanks to alkan132 I finally found one!

This is absolutely, positively the best version, bar none.

  • Thanks thechinadesk for your nice reply. Glad you enjoyed it.

  • Other renditions take too many liberties with the original shape and spirit of the song.

And I'm not even talking about The Platters' doo-wop rendition. That has its own merits. But to me that's merely a novelty act.

Basically Smoke Gets in Your Eyes ought to be performed pretty close to the way Kathryn Grayson and Irene Dunne performed.

  • wundervoll danke

  • Thanks. I think that the out take from 'A Midnight Kiss' with Mario Lanza, is special as well

  • What a gorgeous, gorgeous voice...what a gorgeous, gorgeous song. Thank you so very much.

  • I didn't know this was up until this evening, but enjoyed it imensly as I do all of Kathryn Grayson's work. When the rest of her fans find this up again, I'm sure they'll be checkin it out. This and a couple other scenes and songs she did were supposed to look like she was not confident in the song, like when she sang Time After Time to Lawford and Sinatra. Thanks for putting it up!

  • Thanks for the comments. I don't understand Why the other was deleted though.

  • i believe this video was posted before but you tube deleted it.. thanks for re-uploading:)

  • Thank you immensely for posting this video! What a mirage!

  • Perfection. God bless whoever posted this. It isn't heaven on earth, but its most certainly the nearest thing to it. Her vocal cords should have been donated to the Smithsonian. RIP Kathryn. You were without a shadow of a doubt the greatest, most beautiful thing to happen to music since the invention of the lyric.
