you know. ive worked in a butcher/kill shop and really....this doesnt look all that different from a normal butcher place other than the feeding. at least the killing aspect.
i used 2 havr 4 ducks and a goose as pets in my garden with a big pond, grass, and a nice warm hut at night, and it makes me sick too watch this, i've never eaten duck and never will. Ducks are such intelligent and soft animals! I raised one of them from the day it was born, and when ever i went down too see her she would come sit next 2 me and feed off my hand. Poor creatures :(

It was seared and I thought it was more "slimy" than "buttery" Though I do know that there are other ways to cook it. There is a restaurant in my city that does make foie gras and I plan to go down there when I get my check next month. I am the type of person that likes to try different things.

I am wondering... and I am not a scientist or anything but has anyone ever thought that they should study the duck's/geese liver effected by gavage and try to isolate hormones, enzymes etc. and develop a shot or something that will make these animals' liver bigger instead of having to force feed them?

@metacrow I actually have tried foie gras at my school's culinary restaurant. I liked the taste more than the consistency. It was seared and I thought it was more "slimy" than "buttery" Though I do know that there are other ways to cook it. There is a restaurant in my city that does make foie gras and I plan to go down there when I get my check next month. I am the type of person that likes to try different things.

I eat meat, but I know that luckily, in my own coutnry at least, animals are killed humanely, in a situation where they dont suffer. Foie gras is the cruelest animal treatment I've ever witnessed, and it NEEDS to stop.

1) Migrator birds naturally overfeed themselves before undertaking the exhausting flight from Europe to Africa in the fall. What farmers do for foie gras is just the same with even more food.
2) I believed, too, that birds were mistreated, until i visited a farm in Bearn (a farm, with orchards and grass not a frightful factory). I saw a flock of ducks rushing to the old farmer when she came with her baskets to feed them: They seemed quite happy. It's up to us to choose our food.
