@ArtemZel "100 the richest men in the world, and yet common Russians are one of the poorest people in Europe" because in soviet people was very corrupt and thieves in naturally. Many people stole from the factories products. And grown thieves.

@keirdullea There were no junkies in USSR, parks were a safe place at night, there weren't any hookers and pimps on the streets of the Soviet Union, medicine and education, including the best unis and high schools, were for free, in USSR, homelessness and unemployment didn't exist, common folk of the Soviet Union didn't even know about racism and xenophobia.
The collapse of the Soviet Union, and the breakdown of economic ties which followed, led to a severe economic crisis and catastrophic fall in standards of living in the 1990s in post-Soviet states and the former Eastern Bloc, which was even worse than the great depression. Even before Russia's financial crisis of 1998, and some populations are still poorer as of 2011 than they were in 1989, including Ukraine, Molova, Central Asia, and the Caucasus.
Now life is much worse in Russia for poor people - in Soviet times the state did help most people, now housing & prices are too high. Life is hard especially for old people on pensions. Now politicians just steal assets & become rich, whilemost people can't buy the nice things in all the shops.
@Izkzmach Agreed wholeheartedly! In the Cold War, we saw huge advances in technology and society. It was through competition between states that we prospered, creating computers, modern engineering and scores of other advances.
Nuclear weapons were never a real threat, their effects far too costly to even consider a launch for heads of state. Both nations were even showing signs of tolerance which could've stabilized into willing peace/cooperation.
@fcbcdl maybe but its america that is screwing even more so this leaves mother Russia on the upper leverage trust me them Russians aint no joke the way they work is no shortcuts they work on cold hard methods. they are not stupid we saw what they did in Georgia and how fast they squashed the CIA front Georgian army. i have personally seen leaked video of dead afro-American soldier lying in the dirt shot by Russian army.
@fcbcdl take my word Russia and isreal in the end will be only super powers china will be busy fighting USA with Asian countries and against India the only one that can survive is Russia mainly due to its enormous country and resources and cold hard army and tech. isreal cant control Russia, Russia doesn't bow down and knows the game very well funny thing it was isreal wall street that funded lenin and communism in Russia. watch prof Antony Sutton. in the end it be nukes and dark ages then.
@fcbcdl yes see Pakistan look it up on the map it bang in the middle and it joins on to many countries, china relies on it strategic routes to get oil from middle east and plus they have been building gawdor port and USA is trying to break up Pakistan and blow up the port to stop this development so china can be choked. this will be the turning point plus america is bankrupt once the war happens they going to pull the plug on all these countries economy only russia and isreal stay
@fcbcdl search the world most powerful dynasty own half of the world wealth = the Rothschild. They own isreal they are the money lenders of europe now the world. Arabs revolutions are false it just for greater game so when isreal becomes ruling state of the world it will expand it borders taking all middle eastern oil fields including all Arab water. all this war of terror is bullshit to trick the masses. say bye to money you can touch it rfid chips mate more enslavement.
@fcbcdl isreal needs to expand it borders to what they believe in greater Israel expansion so they create fake Arab revolutions so in few years down the line say oh look terrorist and bomb the hell out of it and expand and take over all middle eastern oil fields and water and become ruling state of the world. there is no islamification of europe but there has been secular bullshit democracy shoved down Muslim countries. eu is bankrupt that why they raping Libya. its all a game.
@fcbcdl nope i believe maybe next year target is Pakistan. They already caught one of the CIA raymond davis with nuke material trying to give to one of their al qaeda mercenaries to do false flag but our prime minister is puppet and returned the CIA terrorist in exchange for money, if the CIA got away then USA can say oh look Pakistan been taken over by Taliban we must help then we get invaded and fucked by NATO.
@usy444u So making a small resume, Israel will have middle east, Russia a superpower, USA and EU in the shit, China second world power along with india?
@fcbcdl USA and china and Asia countries including India at war okay Russia will be on the sideline probably supplying weopens EU might become lead by Germany EU union has collapsed Germany is taking over it all orchestrated by the banks. look search on you tube prof Antony Sutton and the Rothschild. oh the arabs they sitting ducks becuase no advancement in military but they are protected by Pakistan nuclear umbrella once nukes are removed isreal will screw the arabs with some latest weopens.
look it all bout the Rothschild this is history that is never shown on tv do you think Europe just one day decides to invade out of the blue or usa it all controlled by the banks through interest and usury they can control nations by placing puppets and agents especially Khazar jews. your Ukrainian have you forgotten about famine of Ukraine who do you think brought communism in Russia overthrowing the czar why would Russia want to be commie when they can be capitalist and be richer than usa.
Soviet might be gone (disintegrated) but now Russia is growing to become United States opposition, we need Russia to be the balance of United States power and prevent them to be totalitarian toward the world.
@mlk22771 Russia today is on the up. It still has issues, as most countries do in the post recession world, but living standards are rising all the time and russians have more freedom than they ever had before.
Mighty there was a country, despite dullness of governors come to power after I.V.Stalina's death. So pure, light purpose has been put before the country, solid was the country, so competent was system during lifetime of I.V.Stalina, what even after more floor of a century after his death its internal and external enemies, together or separately couldn't disorganize without shocks this great country.
@BVargas78 @4:19 it is a PIC of soldiers lined up in a CHEVRON SHAPE FORMATION.. Behind them there is this BIG O POSTER OF A SOVIET WORKER.. BEHIND HIM THERE IS A BANNER WITH THE RUSSIAN WORD MNP OR MIR IN OUR ALPHABET.. MIR IN RUSSIAN MEANS PEACE. THE IRONY IS THAT A BUNCH OF SOLDIERS ARE PROTECTING PEACE..
wow i've been fed propaganda my whole life in how bad the soviet union is. how different they are from us. but it sorta looks the same to me. just a normal average day.
@ihusmal1234 It's just a normal place like in USA but there is no poor, no exploitation, no worker out of work, no exploitation of women, no war where people from different cultures lives in peace, where there is real democracy, good free education, excellent free health care and most importantly where happiness means being a proud member of this society. Capitalism should have fallen; the most dreadful disease in human history. Bot we do not despair. Other unions will rise...
@TheBlindPowerslave there was abuse and corruption, especially in the southern republics but overall life wasnt too bad in the post stalin soviet union, for most people. The corruption got out of hand under Brehznev however, Andropov made a serious attempt to tackle it, then he conveniently fell ill and died.
@BVargas78 Trust me, no one can know better than me the limits of the post-soviet mafias. You would be ashamed of being human if I told you the stories I heard when I was living near the border. They actually managed to destroy one of the most powerful country in history, doing everything they can to undermine the ideology of socialism and they are much more strong now that there is capitalism.
@TheBlindPowerslave at least the worst part, the 90's is over. Russia is improving, most russians seem content. The Soviet Union however always fascinates me, a great tragedy was that it didnt meet its democratic potential. In the name of internationalism, it went on impossible foreign wars, wasting billions that should have gone to improve the lot of the people. Yet i remain sympathetic, Kruschev was a good leader in my eyes. And Andropov, and Gorbachev (though he screwed up, he meant well).
@BVargas78 Don't expect me to like Gorbachov. History will never forgive him. I hope that things improve for Russia though. Putin is a strong leader. He will make it better I hope.
I find the Soviet Union to be a fascinating and interesting country. I would like to know other people's childhood from USSR. Born in 1987 in Solomon Islands I was 4 when it ended and one of my earliest memories was when I was 4.
Is there anyone around my age who could remember their childhood in USSR?
Wow this was great! This country always fascinated me, esp growing up during the end of the cold war, the last generation to experience and remember the era ( I am 34 now and was starting high school when the USSR ended). What amazes me, is that so many of these pictures look like they could be in the USA, UK, or any other western country. And others look like Pyongyang. In 73 years of existence, the USSR couldnt figure itself out. 20 years after USSR, Russia is struggling with the same questions
Unfortunately the Russian mafia controls a large part of the economy. It's pretty sad. I liked when Russia had very good Olympic athletes and had a great gymnastics schools and such. Russia then and now. I liked how it was then. After Stalin. Stalin was not the greatest leader of that Nation. Lenin did all he could until his death. Stalin ruined everything. Krushchev tried to pick up where Lenin left off.
Beautiful. Utterly poignant. For all the diatribes, for and against, nuanced and not, this video reinforces a point we seem to forget: millions of people called the USSR home from cradle to grave. For all the Jan Palacks, most just wanted to lead their lives. Buy bread. Clock into work. Ride the metro for a date. Listen to radio programming. Share some vodka. And they did. As absurd as things got, they must have seemed strikingly normal to the men and women there.
Kruschev was moving things in a good direction, shame that Brehznev ushered in the era of big corruption and costly, fruitless military campaigns in africa and asia. That money and the resources should have gone toward further improving the life of the civilians and the infrastructure which was left do decay.
@wolldem Thank you for this kind comment. I don't know about love; maybe it's just that sometimes we all - ex-Soviet citizens, I mean - feel a bit lonely without a country that can protect us.

@ARussianHat Omg, no. Just beat it, dude, okay? I don't like murderers, killers or other scum either; and you're free to think whatever you want to think (as I do exactly the same). I just wanted to point you that you're not right calling me a "rightwinger". Ok for you that way?
@DoomerSiC Absolutely right. The inability of the looney left and looney right to distinguish between lack of bias and support for their opposition amazes me. I think the film is very fair and well done - it was very interesting to watch too.
A pity these communists don't immigrate to North Korea so that they can live in their dream world!
@alanheath Probably Belarus, nominally its a parliamentary democracy now but in reality the system has changed very little since the end of the soviet union, it's still largely a command economy with things like a free press being highly restricted.

Now life is much worse in Russia for poor people - in Soviet times the state did help most people, now housing & prices are too high. Life is hard especially for old people on pensions. Now politicians just steal assets & become rich, whilemost people can't buy the nice things in all the shops.
matrix9814 4 months ago
@Izkzmach Agreed wholeheartedly! In the Cold War, we saw huge advances in technology and society. It was through competition between states that we prospered, creating computers, modern engineering and scores of other advances.
Nuclear weapons were never a real threat, their effects far too costly to even consider a launch for heads of state. Both nations were even showing signs of tolerance which could've stabilized into willing peace/cooperation.
Always remember the USSR.

its okay dont be sad Russia is back and its rising but much much stronger - wait and see these coming years but it also involves nuclear warfare.

@usy444u Not really :s Putin and Medvedev are screwing it up even more
fcbcdl 4 months ago
@fcbcdl maybe but its america that is screwing even more so this leaves mother Russia on the upper leverage trust me them Russians aint no joke the way they work is no shortcuts they work on cold hard methods. they are not stupid we saw what they did in Georgia and how fast they squashed the CIA front Georgian army. i have personally seen leaked video of dead afro-American soldier lying in the dirt shot by Russian army.
usy444u 4 months ago
@usy444u I dont believe in Russia anymore, Im ukrainian and i always wanted Russia on the top..but now...
fcbcdl 4 months ago
@fcbcdl take my word Russia and isreal in the end will be only super powers china will be busy fighting USA with Asian countries and against India the only one that can survive is Russia mainly due to its enormous country and resources and cold hard army and tech. isreal cant control Russia, Russia doesn't bow down and knows the game very well funny thing it was isreal wall street that funded lenin and communism in Russia. watch prof Antony Sutton. in the end it be nukes and dark ages then.
usy444u 4 months ago
@usy444u China and USA fighting? in War or what?
fcbcdl 4 months ago
@fcbcdl yes see Pakistan look it up on the map it bang in the middle and it joins on to many countries, china relies on it strategic routes to get oil from middle east and plus they have been building gawdor port and USA is trying to break up Pakistan and blow up the port to stop this development so china can be choked. this will be the turning point plus america is bankrupt once the war happens they going to pull the plug on all these countries economy only russia and isreal stay
usy444u 4 months ago
@usy444u But why Israel?
fcbcdl 4 months ago
@fcbcdl search the world most powerful dynasty own half of the world wealth = the Rothschild. They own isreal they are the money lenders of europe now the world. Arabs revolutions are false it just for greater game so when isreal becomes ruling state of the world it will expand it borders taking all middle eastern oil fields including all Arab water. all this war of terror is bullshit to trick the masses. say bye to money you can touch it rfid chips mate more enslavement.
usy444u 4 months ago
@usy444u where did you hear all that? lol it sounds pretty unreal, and what will happen with EU? also islamisation is a fairytale?
fcbcdl 4 months ago
@fcbcdl isreal needs to expand it borders to what they believe in greater Israel expansion so they create fake Arab revolutions so in few years down the line say oh look terrorist and bomb the hell out of it and expand and take over all middle eastern oil fields and water and become ruling state of the world. there is no islamification of europe but there has been secular bullshit democracy shoved down Muslim countries. eu is bankrupt that why they raping Libya. its all a game.
usy444u 4 months ago
@usy444u So all that must happen around in 2030?
fcbcdl 4 months ago
@fcbcdl nope i believe maybe next year target is Pakistan. They already caught one of the CIA raymond davis with nuke material trying to give to one of their al qaeda mercenaries to do false flag but our prime minister is puppet and returned the CIA terrorist in exchange for money, if the CIA got away then USA can say oh look Pakistan been taken over by Taliban we must help then we get invaded and fucked by NATO.
usy444u 4 months ago
@usy444u So making a small resume, Israel will have middle east, Russia a superpower, USA and EU in the shit, China second world power along with india?
fcbcdl 4 months ago
@fcbcdl USA and china and Asia countries including India at war okay Russia will be on the sideline probably supplying weopens EU might become lead by Germany EU union has collapsed Germany is taking over it all orchestrated by the banks. look search on you tube prof Antony Sutton and the Rothschild. oh the arabs they sitting ducks becuase no advancement in military but they are protected by Pakistan nuclear umbrella once nukes are removed isreal will screw the arabs with some latest weopens.
usy444u 4 months ago
look it all bout the Rothschild this is history that is never shown on tv do you think Europe just one day decides to invade out of the blue or usa it all controlled by the banks through interest and usury they can control nations by placing puppets and agents especially Khazar jews. your Ukrainian have you forgotten about famine of Ukraine who do you think brought communism in Russia overthrowing the czar why would Russia want to be commie when they can be capitalist and be richer than usa.

So pure, light purpose has been put before the country, solid was the country, so competent was system during lifetime of I.V.Stalina, what even after more floor of a century after his death its internal and external enemies, together or separately couldn't disorganize without shocks this great country.

ihusmal1234 6 months ago
@ihusmal1234 It's just a normal place like in USA but there is no poor, no exploitation, no worker out of work, no exploitation of women, no war where people from different cultures lives in peace, where there is real democracy, good free education, excellent free health care and most importantly where happiness means being a proud member of this society. Capitalism should have fallen; the most dreadful disease in human history. Bot we do not despair. Other unions will rise...
TheBlindPowerslave 6 months ago
@TheBlindPowerslave there was abuse and corruption, especially in the southern republics but overall life wasnt too bad in the post stalin soviet union, for most people. The corruption got out of hand under Brehznev however, Andropov made a serious attempt to tackle it, then he conveniently fell ill and died.
BVargas78 5 months ago
@BVargas78 Trust me, no one can know better than me the limits of the post-soviet mafias. You would be ashamed of being human if I told you the stories I heard when I was living near the border. They actually managed to destroy one of the most powerful country in history, doing everything they can to undermine the ideology of socialism and they are much more strong now that there is capitalism.
TheBlindPowerslave 5 months ago
@TheBlindPowerslave at least the worst part, the 90's is over. Russia is improving, most russians seem content. The Soviet Union however always fascinates me, a great tragedy was that it didnt meet its democratic potential. In the name of internationalism, it went on impossible foreign wars, wasting billions that should have gone to improve the lot of the people. Yet i remain sympathetic, Kruschev was a good leader in my eyes. And Andropov, and Gorbachev (though he screwed up, he meant well).
BVargas78 5 months ago
@BVargas78 Don't expect me to like Gorbachov. History will never forgive him. I hope that things improve for Russia though. Putin is a strong leader. He will make it better I hope.

Pdasilva0324 7 months ago
Unfortunately the Russian mafia controls a large part of the economy. It's pretty sad. I liked when Russia had very good Olympic athletes and had a great gymnastics schools and such. Russia then and now. I liked how it was then. After Stalin. Stalin was not the greatest leader of that Nation. Lenin did all he could until his death. Stalin ruined everything. Krushchev tried to pick up where Lenin left off.
rbsvy91368 7 months ago
anon2d3d4d 4 months ago
