  • Really inspirational but real life is about dealing with real shit (literally and figuratively)…this would have been a truly complete story if he shared that bit.

  • This guy and I share the same kind of teachers.... xD

  • wow..love the video..Thanks a lot!

  • Not all great accomplishments are of this sort. (Not to take away from this achievement, techno gadgets, pick-up, and all...) Some of the greatest acts acheived by humankind will go uncelebrated. The fact that people do them anyway is what makes our species great.

  • Everyone of us should do one great thing before death takes us away.

  • Yea, most have done something worth mentioning.

But almost none of them have done something absolutely awe inspiring as going solo to the north pole or the south pole, or climbing all 14 8000m peaks.

Try something like that before you act like it's not a big deal. It's different from winning a beauty pageant.

  • @Mephistoroth - it's also an incredibly pointless thing to do. actually ranking way down there with winning beauty pageants. bad Discovery channel stuff

  • Stefansson would be be proud. you should try to get funds for your next trip here on youtube

  • He was INVITED to talk about his journey. That's what the TED organizers wanted people to hear about, (and they're pretty good judges of what people care about.) If you don't care about listening about the interesting things people are doing in the world, then the rest of the TED talks will also be a waste of your time.

  • He does these talks to motivate other young people into going for their ambitions and reaching their potential. Hearing people speak can really effect you, especially when your young. So it is changing things.

Also he always does scientific research on his expeditions, about human capability and physical limits and the effect of the diet, climate and harsh experiences on the human body. His research is used in universities, the Royal Geographical society and other scientific institutes wordwide

  • "he can brag.. doesn't mean i would care [..] you need a care factor check. oh ya he moves around way too much.. ADD?"

    You can't spell. ADD?

There are nearly 7 billion people alive today, and countless billions who have come before them. Only *4* human beings in history of our species have done what this guy has done. That gives him bragging rights.

    What's your distinguishing accomplishment? Right.

  • Yea, if you want to the north Pole solo, you'd probably be telling everybody too.

don't even fuckin deny ti either.

    I sure as hell would.

  • Very Cool. He seemed quite sincere to me.

  • He should be proud..!!At least he is bragging about something great that he achieved with hard work and not about material crap like everyone else...especially if there's only a hand full of people with such achievement.

  • and on futher reflection, compared to similar speeches by polar explorers- it was very modest!

  • yeah,

mace2 get over it and go do something worth it

  • It's supposed to be motivational presentation- theyre not meant to play it down! If it was me I'd be a bit proud too!

  • very enjoyable, though i almost closed the video upon hearing him repeatedly remind the audience of what a great thing he had achieved. there's a fine line between pride and arrogance.
