I know this is an oldie, but I'd recommend (if you haven't already), giving him at least 4" of substrate. They love to dig, and it's one way they help regulate their humidity. Great set up overall, is he still alive?

Friendly tip from one arachnid enthusiast to the next: I would suggest removing the sponge from the enclosure. If you're not hand feeding your scorpion/tarantula(I hand feed all of mine with long rubber tongs), a pregnant cricket will lay her eggs inside the sponge. The baby crickets can latch onto and feed off of the scorpion's/tarantula's face causing extreme bodily harm resulting in death. Same goes for cotton balls and other various porous objects.
