In the "sad songs" category, "Skip a Rope" Henson Cargill, fits the bill. I'd love to play it on stage, but can't figure the right audience to play in front of...too sobering...
lordie luv this song i was turn on to Commander Cody back in '79..... fellow thought i would like it called it goat roping music , then called me a redneck 8-) well he was right about 1 thing, luv this goat roping music and will always!
Commander Cody was all about humour, and great music! Loved em back then. Had all the early albums. Seeds and Stems Again Blues is still so funny! Recall the days when we smoked so much grass we was left with the seeds and stems ... This is a great song too, it was meant as camp back then. If people take it seriously now it means it still works. Brilliant!
Not sure where to reply. My inbox sent me back here. A few told me Stems and Seed and Diesels was mostly about humor, If wanton lost trucker children,,,and cheated on dopers are funny...I agree. Just like puppies in a dog pound, How funny!
The thread I started,,,was saddest song EVER written,
For me they both qualify. But not for humor, Maybe whimsey...
But drunk possibly doped up musicians at 4 Am...on the road,,,write this stuff. From the heart.
Totally agree about Gaga BUT millions believe she is a gifted performer. Some body please explain. Is it a kind of mass hysteria? P.S. saw The Commander in Cardiff Uni ~ 1975 - one of the best concerts I've ever been to.
I was a trucker when I was young. I became a police officer. Like alot of other guys who gave up diesels for something else, I wished I had never left trucking. Some of my happyist times were sailing with 13 gears, 400 horses and 18 wheels. My wife haited diesels too.
I used to drive long haul, gave it up for college and a desk job, but miss it every time I hear one of these old time trucker songs. I miss channel 10 on the now defunct XM radio.. the Sirius replacement doesn't hold a candle to the old station..
@biggestkrisfan ... Too bad you're married ... we could take the little one and travel the "blue" highways of my country ... but ... being the old fart that I am ... we better do it fast ... I don't think ... at least I hope I won't be around too much longer ... if I hit 65 and I'm still here ... man ... am I gonna' be pissed off ... I've earned a rest ...
@biggestkrisfan ... hey gorgeous if one fears death one fears life ... I know that is a platitude ... but I just want to return from whence I came ... but no rush ... as long as you are in this world ...
i put in 2 million miles hauling livestock to and from california. this song sure reminds me of watching the hood shake roaring down 40. my addiction to diesel cost me a wife but i sure enjoyed my days and nights listening to a pair of eights.
hankgwe- got your reply, thanks the tip. A few of us at work were discussing some older and relatively unknown music. It wasn't about sad, It was about cool mostly. So i pulled up,,,Dr. Buzzard, Kid Creole and the likes of Commander Cody. They said "HUH?" Best they came up with was Atlanta Ry them Section. Was going to forward the "you tubes to them"..Long as i was here...figured i'd start the discussion...saddest song ever. yeah sad Christmas tune,, thanks
here is the debate, which IS the saddest song ever written. I was looking up Seeds and Stems,,and saw this. I had forgotten this one. This could be even sadder than Stems and Seeds. Love.. the label,,,,Intro :05 ,,,ends Cold. (us old radio folks will get it).
@lacy235 i always thought "Seeds and Stems" had some humor behind it. because it's they're saying, "my dog died, i lost my home, you left me, and further more i'm out of weed." as sad as "Seeds and Stems" sounds it somehow makes me chuckle haha.
I should have said something before now ... I've got your video/music on my favorites thing ... I listen to this song all the time ... fuckin' love it ... thank you for posting it ...

You had a cop? How was he? I assume you ended up in cuffs? Or did he let you off?
Also try,,,Coati Mundi...not to take away form this...he is ex Dr. Buzzard but better.
My embarrassment was leaving (nice) comments. Got a reply,,,form Coati. Said S##T this in not a fan page. So,,,hankgwe,, ore you a fan or band member?
The production seems to good to be second hand or pirated.
but really,,,cameling...you had a cop?

@lacy235 I had a local cop with a massive music collection, he would challange anyone to come up with a artist he didn't have.
I was the first one ever to get him. He knew of the Commander but didn't have anything from him. Got him first pick ;-)
