This is one of the movies I loved the most growing up. I remember playing this video almost every time I went to my grandparents' house (they owned a copy), but I never got bored of it.
That's a good sign. It shows that with the years, you more and more recognize how precious a true bond between human and animal is instead of forgetting about it, like a lot of people do. Be proud of it, man.
i cry every damn time i watch this movie. every time shadow walks over the hill and the music starts playing, i start sobbing. i love this movie, and the ending is so touching.
Ive always loved this film its legendary, and it was made in 1993 the year i was born :) I love the music and the animals, it always makes me cry at the end! Just love itttt
ok so no matter how many times I watch this I just bawl like a baby every time. even this. and then I laugh when chance says "TURKEY! TURKEY TURKEY TURKEY TURKEY TURKEY TURKEY TURKEY TURKEY TURKEY TURKEY TURKEY TURKEY!"
We recently just lost our Golden Retriever , she was 12 years old. I didn't see her get put to sleep , so I hadn't had the chance to get cry. After thinking about this scene , I had to look it up immediately , and I did cry. I miss you Goldie. You are in a better place.

This film's ending and Old Yeller practically kill me everytime! It's almost too much to bare. But at least with this one I can smile. There's just no bond like what you can have with your dog. (Or cat) With a pet you'll never be cheated on, be ignored, and nevr feel belittled. It's a relationship you can always trust. And these movies couldn't showcase it better. I love Chance and Shadow! They remind me so much of my dog. :)
@TyrantTG002 I really don't know, probably cause happy endings are just, happy, and it makes you happy to see these things happen. But honostly, I don't know the scientific reason :)
My gosh, definately a scene that brings a tear to the eye, even though it's a happy ending. I get a little teary at Chance, then laugh at sassy, and then bawl like a little boy at Shadow.
this is why i think some children can act much better than adults. their innocence and naivety makes it easier for them to show emotions. nice ending!
The ending would have been perfect if it weren't for Chance fucking it up at the end by saying "I had a family."
News flash, pup: "Family" is a scientific relationship, nothing more nothing less. My own flesh & blood? No, my own gene pool, my own pedigree.
If you're going to give preferential treatment to family in things like employment or other things, you may as well give preferential treatment to blacks and women; that's just as much a matter of GENETICS as family is.
That's different. Just like you CHOOSE who your best friends are, you CHOSE to adopt. Not the case with biological children.
What I mean is, saying "I love you BECAUSE you're my son," is about as meaningful as saying "I love you BECAUSE you're black" or "I love you BECAUSE you're over six feet tall." They're all a matter of genetics.
But if you're adopted, do you choose who adopts you?
Also, what an organism, especially a sentient organism, is like depends as much on it's environment and experiences as on genetics. Furthermore; father, son, etc are terms used to describe relationship between two or more people whereas height and race describe the traits of a single individual.
True, a child doesn't choose who adopts him, but he can choose if he will stay with his guardians when he turns 18, or if he'll ostracize them from his life, depending largely on how the guardians treat him during his childhood.
Environment and experiences are much more influential than genetics, and that's how you choose who you love; not because of a scientific relationship. However, people seem to think that because they're "family," that gives them more stroke in things.
True, but such psychological need can easily be satisfied with really good friends.
Besides, I wouldn't be making such a big deal out of it in the first place if it weren't for the fact that my own family condemns me demanding equal things from them if I give them something (like, for example, my parents sold me my first car, but almost didn't want to do it, so I almost sued them, until they gave me the car, and to this day, they bitch about how I should sue my own flesh and blood).
In terms of how we develop as people I think family is not necessarily the group of people with whom you share a blood relation, but those who love you unconditionally. And really good friends can be part of that. Perhaps some loyalty is owed, but it works both ways. Based on your account your family isn't holding up it's half.
That is the exact opposite of what I've experienced. Like, for example, about 14 months ago, my father attacked me and grabbed me by the neck; my mother begged and pleaded with me not to send him to jail because "he's your father!"
Exactly. Their not holding up their end. They don't treat you as they should. But then they defend themselves saying you shouldn't do anything about as they are your family. They are hypocrites for that. I don't know how old you are, if you are a minor it's child abuse, if you are any adult it's assault. In my opinion, you should press charges.
Ok, who's side are you on, here, anyway? First, you try and pose these hypotheticals to try and prove me wrong on the notion that family is just a scientific relationship, and now you're agreeing with me?
I disagree that family is merely a scientific relationship. But I agree that your family mistreats you and you have the right to seek legal action against them. A family that abuses you is not a proper family.
True, but what I'm talking about is... there is no such thing as unconditional love; any and all love can be won or lost depending on how the loved ones treat one another.
I guess that's true. But that largely depends on a person's nature. In a relationship where the people are good people it makes little difference. But your parents would seem to have lost that right.
Yes, my entire family (not just my parents) are also very forgiving, and they expect that to run in the family. I guess my unforgiving nature is a recessive gene.
@dstebbin Wow...Total douche-bag comment but whatever. The movie is still sweet and Chance most certainly does have a "family". Family is just a term most people use to describe their loved ones weather they are related by blood or otherwise. Just because the people you surrounded yourself with by choice obviously SUCK gives you no right to belittle other people and bash a very sweet movie. Let it go and surround yourself with good people who deserve to be called your "Family".
