Thank you for the quick response! I have been recommended to check out the Tinker swords before. I will definitely look into this. They seem to be quite worth the extra money.
Hey Jeeperrandy, I've been considering buying a sword from the Iberia line for quite some time now. The Hanwei War Sword and the Hanwei Agincourt swords both piqued my interest, but I've also been considering the Hanwei Lionheart sword. Would you recommend the Lionheart to an entry level collector? And if you've handled the other two swords I've mentioned, which do you prefer out of all of them?
@IHEARTJV123 I'll be honest with you. Knowing what I know now I would save up and buy a better sword than the Lionheart. Although it's functional, it's a very basic and unremarkable sword. I haven't handled the War sword or the Agincourt but I would expect them to be about the same quality as these. I think the Hanwei Tinker swords would be a better buy and a nicer handling piece.
i am telling you this cas henwei swords ae the best out there for there price and as you can see they come sharp and battle ready... so be careful with these blades
Just bought the great sword of war by Tinker Pierce this sward cost less than $300.00 and I havn't found much it wont cut or smash through. Awesome sword:)
@dxjrules5 See, that's what I like to hear; people with intelligence! Every kid my age is always talking about an M16 or AK47 during the Zombie Apocalypse. I talk about having a sharp, durable machete, a claymore, a katana, or a Cold Steel Boar spear! People that think like you and I will survive.
@dakenetsu UBC is a group of people all around the world who are interested in blades of all types and the practice of test cutting. Look for United Backyard Cutters on facebook or go to out forum page, unitedbackyardcutter(dotcom)
@asssface2000 I guess i would tell them that they really have no idea what they are talking about. I can buy a hand-forged, fully functional, traditionally made modern sword for less than that from many swordsmiths ( Jody Sampson, James Raw, Micheal Tinker Pierce and Brendan Olszowy to name just a few ). Price doesn't decide a sword's worthyness. Quality and craftsmanship do.
Ha, I know I made somewhat of an idiot of myself asking that question One last thing though, Once you placed the order, about how long did the Mercenary take to arrive?
Nice video. I had the Claymore, but the tang was very poorly heat-treated and broke soon after I got it. However, the tang is a monster and if it was properly heat treated, it would have lasted forever. I turned the blade into a falchion though, and through that process I learned that Hanwei is superior at heat treating their swords. (The blades at least!) I am glad to see that you and a few others didn't get a lemon like I did.
Hails. What cleaning product do you use for European blades? I'm new to sword collecting so I was wondering about Oil vs, Wax etc. I have heard good things about Hanwei oil so I may consider that, although I have heard some good things about a product called Tuf-cloth as well. Also after the re-oil stage of cleaning what should I keep the sword in? People say the sheath is fine if you check on it every week but others say in the long term it can cause rust, Get back to me, thanks.
@Aegishjalmer If a sword has a high-gloss 'mirror' finish and it gets scuffed or has residue from cutting, I use a light polishing agent , like Metal Glo, Autosol or just about any metal polishing compound. If it has a dull finish like my Hanwei European swords I will wipe it down with a cleaning solution like windex or rubbing alcohol before oiling it. I use Hanwei sword oil on most of my blades but you can use any light machine oil, mineral oil or a product called Renaissance Wax...
... A sword can be kept in the scabbard except in very humid conditions. I take all my swords out and inspect them about every two weeks or so, and give them a quick wipe with an oily rag.
Chances are I'll be getting myself the Claymore some time within the next year or two. I've always been a big fan of big swords that readily chop up anything you put in front of them. ^_^
Being a 6'3" Male of Scottish Heritage, I am a nice compliment to the sword, I think.
Thanks for the test footage, it's hard to find someone who just gives you the results.
Those swords look like an excellent choice for someone wanting to experiment with Euros, cutting and sharpening. I think the merc. is quite attractive, looks like a beast.
Nice test Randy. That Lionheart was $90. Dude, I'm getting ripped off. Glad I didn't buy it yet. The other two are way too heavy for my liking, you know I'm a Katana guy after all ;-). I have to contact Marc about a Linonheart.
They all stood up to a tone of heavy targets there. Great job man, my back yard is still like soup.
I wanted to buy the Mercenary, or the other hand-and-a-half from the Iberia Line, but wasn't sure. In my country there is only one distributor for Hanwei who sells at retail price.
Isn't the Mercenary kinda heavy for a hand-and-a-half? (from the specs on their website)
Yes, it is more than a hand and a half sword. I would consider this a two-hander, like the claymore, unless you are a very large person to wield it like a hand and a half sword.

Are these blades full tang?
rukonex 6 months ago
@rukonex Yes, full tang and carbon steel, although I have heard that the tang on the Claymore could be a bit beefier.

@Jeeperrandy Thank you! I was planning on getting the claymore, so that's great to know.

@haggis357 2 weeks, which is pretty standard anywhere I order from.
Jeeperrandy 1 year ago
Just a question, but is the blade of the mercenary sword truly that good/ As it won't break, or get messed up even if I go ahead and chop wood?
haggis357 1 year ago
@haggis357 You know what they say, " nothing in life is certain except death and taxes".
All I can tell you is that my Mercenary from Hanwei, although a quite cheap entry-level sword, held up to the abuse i show in the video.

does the scottish claymore come with a scabbard?
FatGuyWithAKatana 1 year ago
@FatGuyWithAKatana Nope. There is a baldric you an buy to carry the Claymore on your back. but it is quite expensive
Jeeperrandy 1 year ago
@Jeeperrandy ah screw that. on trueswords they have a wallhanger claymore with a sheath with the same length blade. is the baldric more than $45?
FatGuyWithAKatana 1 year ago
@FatGuyWithAKatana yup, $90
Jeeperrandy 1 year ago
@Jeeperrandy yeah, super screw that, i'll get a pretty wall hanger and a sheath for half that then.
