Hit it on the player last winter as I was driving through the greatest rolling highway patrol cluster-fuck/speed-trap I'd ever seen in my not unsubstantial life headed into Amarillo last December. I'm in a '69 Bug with California plates and can't go fast enough to be pulled over. Not that a bunch of the good old Texas pigs didn't try, dropping in at at high speed to, oh, bummer, his sticker is okay, hey, is that a Lexus! Uh, anyway, I sang this, rinsed and repeated and laughed. And laughed.
Listening to Send-era Wire, both in live and studio incarnations, is somewhat akin to being walloped with a wide variety of hammers, mostly of the large, heavy sort.
What this performance proves is that some groups never lose their edge-Wire,GangOfFour,KillingJoke-all with approx 30yrs existence with perhaps a slight lowering of standards mid-life but re-invigorated within the last 5 years or so&still able to cut the mustard.
I would disagree on Go4. I have their "Mall" and it plainly sucks.
Killing Joke also has its ups and downs, they had brilliant albums (and not only in the 80s), but sometimes the quality slips. Wire, on the other hand, constantly deliver!
Agreed-Mall by Go4,Revelations&BrighterThanAThousandSuns by KillingJoke are sub-standard-but maybe Manscape by Wire too is not that great. But all these artists still have a cutting edge to them despite dodgy periods!!
GardnerGoldsmith: I accidentally hit "remove" instead of "approve" on your comment. Sorry. Would you mind too terribly trying to recreate it's well-written praise of this most amazing band?
(intelligent and well-written observations are kind of a rarity here... most are along the lines of a one word response: "kewl!" or "awesome". And that's fine and all... but I just happened to agree with everything you said and appreciate the time you took to write something out and post it!)
I know what you mean; what's the point of even commenting if you've got a one-word mind.
I personally got into this band like half a year ago, and I haven't listened to anything else since. Everything any of these fellows have ever done is brilliant; no musician today can do something without Wire having already done gotten bored with it.

This is not, by any means, a bad thing.
