I downloaded the file from 4shared.com. When I click install it says, "z4root could not be installed on this phone." I do have an HTC Hero sprint phone. What could be the problem?
Great video. This video and a couple of your other videos have been very helpful in getting my HTC Hero rooted, updated with CM7. Thanks for the help.

yessssssss i finally am getting this done. as i type. im a lil weary because my software is 2.32.651.2. and there is nothing about that and i need a lil help because it still on reboot. how long does it stay on reboot?
@runtellthat2 hey when you go to setting check allow acceptance to non-market apps. i just figured that out. then after installing you just open it and you can finish it
can this all be done through usb the phone is not currently with any carrier. 2 questions i have a stock sprint hero that i want i want to root which i have watched your video on so that's no problem, what i need to know is and i know its a simple task but how can i hack the start up or "load screen so i can put a animated logo there of my choice? also what is the process if not shown but just told on flashing from one carrier to the next
Lately been having trouble with my WIFI - keeps showing network error. I know there is nothing wrong with my network - I have a number of devices on it and all working fine. So somethings up with this phone. Rooted HTC Hero (your vid 3 months ago = or -) Android 2.3.3 - CyanogenMod 7.03 Heroc - Set CPU 2.2.4 - Worked fine until recently - not sure but I thought I read on one of your comments that there was an issue with WIFI Any ideas ?
Nicely done. Instructions worked exactly as you described. Will be following your other video for the installing a new rom/mod. Oh yes, and it's easy. :-)
After I click permanent root it loads for a while than goes to a black screen, it does not let me do anything from there I need to take out the battery and when it reboots the super user app is not installed :[
Hey the process looks very simple..so i downloaded the z4root.apk but when i install it...it pops up like its about to install but the install button doesnt show up..i have no idea why
I kinda need help so i followed all the steps right but yett when I click permanate root on the device it sits there for awhile righht and on the video it saids rebooting device but mine doesnt do that I sit there for awhile and it just goes back to the home screen I tried to see if the superhero thing was there but It wasent
@wafflefacee I have never heard of this, but I suggest if you can access it for just a little, to open z4root, & tap on unroot. Hope this helped, Thanks for watching!!!!
hey jhverdream, thank you so much for posting this. it worked perfectly on my hero. my wife has an evo 4g...could i apply this same procedure to it? thanks gain!
@JohnStrassburg351 Just go home then into your app drawer and open it from there. If that does not work, download a different one and try again. If still it does not work, it is not compatible with your build. I hope I helped, Thank You!
Thank you so much! I have been trying to root my Hero for months. I'm glad that there is finally a way to do this directly on the phone & so much simpler than 15 steps to go through to get this done! Now what is the next step I need to do in order to find apps specifically wifi tethering? Should I install CyanogenMod?
Hi, I'm glad i could help, to do wireless tethering, you will need the app called ( Wireless Tether )
Its free in the android market. Installing CyanogenMod is optional. If you want to be up to date on software & have a faster operating system, I would defiantly install CyanogenMod. (If you want install CyanogenMod I have a video on have to do it step by step,Just visit my channel).
If you like the HTC Sense UI, feel free to keep it.
But if you want to speed it up, get an overclock app(SetCPU,Droid Overclock), some are free in the market, and if you want a paid version, you can see my video on how to get apps for free. With these, you can over clock you processor, witch will drastically improve speed on the stock UI.
@jhverdream Read somewhere on net that you have to be careful if you've got most recent 2.1 update installed on your phone Talked to HTC today and they will not be any further updates for HERO (sprint provider) So since Im new to this and on one hand want to root my outdated HERO on other dont want to 'brick it' Whats your take in your video (very clear and well done by the way) it looks fast and simple
@TheJelectro Ok, the hardest part of putting on new roms is probably rooting the phone, but if you check out my other video, I show how to do it very easily. The way I do it has no chance of bricking you phone. Flashing the rom is a little tricky, but if you watch my videos, I shoe hoe to do it in a very detailed way, not like other people. The chance of bricking your phone is so small its almost not there. If you follow all my instructions, you should be fine. I Hope this helped, Thanks!!!
@jhverdream Letting you know - finally rooted my HERO - great instructional very simple and cam work was excellent (very clear) Watched numerous vids on rooting hero - yours was the best - easiest to follow - step by step pain free !! Also watched your other vid and now I'm running Gingerbread 2,3 with Cyogenmod 7 - nice. So - next question watched your vid on installing HTC Sense 3.0 - so is this a different ROM so I need to wipe cyogen off in ROM manger b4 installing HTC SENSE?
@toureowen It should work, unless, your on Motorola phone, because it changes the file type, if you are using a Hero, turn it off and try again, Thank You!
Will rooting my Hero and installing Gingerbread help this phone work better & faster, less glitchy? That would be my main reason. Also, does it wipe out all your info, pics, music, contacts, etc...?
@soulriderleo After rooting you can get an overclock app. (SetCPU, Droidoverclock) and these will let you set your phones processor at a higher speed. After that your phone will be much faster, less laggy, and less glitchy.
You will not loose any data when rooting. The only way you will loose data is if you load a custom rom and don't back up your data.
Rooting your phone means giving yourself root, or superuser access, giving you access to system files and the ability to change things that normally are marked read only.
This allows you to change all kinds of things that normally you wouldn't be able to, along with install custom versions of Android.
Good Job, thank you for your help.
